A chance to learn the percussion played in a range of Cuban traditional, popular and carnival music. Study basic technical skills on a variety of percussion instruments, gain an understanding of the fundamental aspects of Cuban rhythms and enjoy the experience of playing percussion in an ensemble. You will learn how different percussion patterns interlock and work together to create energetic and infectious rhythms. We’ll learn the percussion played in salsa and also cover some traditional drumming that will give you an insight into how this has influenced popular music. The course is suitable for anyone who has a basic technique in hand drumming especially on conga drums (able to play basic patterns with bass, slap and open tone). The course is ideally suited to anyone who has or is thinking about getting their own conga drums or other Latin percussion equipment. Instruments provided. Tea/coffee provided.
