Hi all,
I hope all our members and families had a happy and enjoyable
Easter break.
Our club has been ticking along steadily, Motorkana is coming on
the 16th /17th May so get your entries in, it will be a great weekend.
ANZAC Day 100th anniversary celebration is here and there have
been requests for older cars to transport some of the veterans that
cannot march, so if you can help please do so.
The council has let the contract for the shed to the builder
Coastal Steel, they built our existing shed. The contract is in two
stages. Stage one is to the lock up by coastal, stage two will be by
SCACC.
New members to be voted on this month are Ron Pearson, Jeff
Poole and Bernie Daniels.
Happy Motoring, Kev
The Sunshine Coast Antique Car Club
was formed in 1963 to foster preservation of our motoring heritage by providing an avenue for sharing of information
by the owners of veteran and vintage
cars (prior to 1/1/1919 and 1/1/1931
respectively) and the encouragement of
their restoration and preservation.
They also intended to educate and
interest the general public by displays,
rallies, etc.
Today we welcome all people interested
in preservation and restoration of our
motoring and machinery history.
Generally, our members come from
those owning such over 30 years old but
owning one is not a mandatory requirement. Our veteran and vintage vehicles
remain our “respected citizens” due to
their historic significance. Rallies are
designed to allow for their limitations.
Our Rally Director tries to incorporate
suitable variations in rallies which will
cater for all our vehicles. S.C.A.C.C.

that day.
Gary Deane is hosting a run on 22nd April. The Brunch run will be
on the 3rd of May. X-Roads is coming up on the 9th of May.
Now is the time to get things organised for MotorKana on the
16th and 17th of May. So please download your entry forms from the
web site.

BATTERIES
Some years ago, I posted an article in Auto Antics about using one of those
small battery chargers for battery driven appliances, which automatically charge
batteries not used regularly, e.g. the battery in your club car.
My article drew considerable ‘flack’ in the next edition of Auto Antics. The
point being was and still is, quite correct for the old style battery chargers.
The purpose of this article is to inform you, if you do not already know, that
my idea has been commercialised. I found this out recently when purchasing a battery from Auto Barn in Currie Street Nambour. The chap who served me tried to
interest me in a ‘Battery Link Charger ($40.00) which is basically what I was trying
to promote years ago. The chargers from old battery driven appliances are virtually
‘throw away’ items today. If you want to “DYO” for a 12-volt battery, obviously get
a 12-volt charger with at least 500 milliamp (mA) output on the secondary – better
still a 1000 mA, i.e. one (1) Amp. Make sure the output is DC. Symbol ___/---. Some
are AC, symbol ~. The other vital thing is to get the polarity correct. A digital multimeter will sort that out for you.

A CAR SALESMAN'S NIGHTMARE
This lady will not buy a new car until she has worn her old one out and it is
still in new condition - after all it is only 84 years old (the car that is, oh the
lady... she is 101). Take notice in the video that she lays a shop rag on the running board to step onto when she gets in the car. After she is in the car, she
leans all the way down to the running board to get the rag. She is in great physical and mental shape for her age. The car is not bad either! Click on the link below to view this beautiful car and listen to this wonderful, seemingly ageless
woman.

Changhai Expat.
After living in Shanghai for 50 years, a Chinese man decides to move to
Australia ... He buys a small piece of land near Mt Isa. A few days after
moving in, the friendly Aussie neighbor decides to go across and welcome
the new man to the region. He goes next door but on his way up the driveway, he sees the Chinese man running around his front yard chasing about
10 hens. Not wanting to interrupt any Chinese custom, he decides to put
the welcome on hold for the day. The next day, he decides to try again,
but just as he is about to knock on the front door, he looks through the
window and sees the Chinese man urinate into a glass and then drink it. Not
wanting to interrupt another Chinese custom, he decides to put the welcome on hold for yet another day. A day later he decides to give it one last
go, but on his way next door, he sees the Chinese man leading a bull down
the drive-way, pause, and then put an ear next to the bull's bum. The Aussie bloke cannot handle this, so he goes up to the Chinese man and says,
'Jeez Mate, what the hell is it with your Chinese customs? I come over to
welcome you to the neighborhood, and see you running around the yard after hens. The next day you are pissing in a glass and drinking it, and then
today you have your head so close to that bull's arse, it could just about
shit on you.' The Chinese man is very taken back and says, 'sorry sir, you
no understand, these no Chinese customs I doing, these Australian customs.' 'What do you mean mate' says the Aussie, 'those are not Australian customs... 'Yes they are', replied the Chinese man, 'travel agent man
say to become true blue Australian, I must learn chase chicks, drink piss,
and listen to bull shit.'

"DALBY TRIP REPORT”
What a great time we had - beginning with
meeting at Cruice Park on Thursday for the early
birds and setting off on Friday to Benarkin with
approximately 40 people. We were treated to
Devonshire tea at Ralph Tennant Car & Tractor
Museum, then onto a camp oven lunch. Doug Harvey entertained us with his piano accordian. Then
onto our various camps or accommodation via The
Bun pub where we saw some muscle cars and some
enjoyed a welcome beer. Saturday morning we viewed a private collection of muscle cars,
then onto the Dalby Pioneer Park Museum for a delicious lunch and look around the museum.
Sunday we drove a few klms out of town to see a
collection of mostly BMW motorbikes. Then in the afternoon, we set off to another property, which houses
many restored trucks. What a collection they
had! Musical talents of some of our party came forth
around happy hour.
Monday we set off in another direction out of Dalby for a grain property, which had
a wonderful display of tractors (about 45 I think). The ladies were not forgotten, as there
was a beautiful garden to explore. We were also privileged to have our Club President, Kev
Grant, officially open a cottage housing the most amazing collection of Avon memorabilia on
this property.
Tuesday was a free day, some people taking the opportunity to go to the Bunya
Mountains, visit Lake Broadwater, or do a spot of op shopping. The campfire provided a
great backdrop for the ukuleles’ to come out, and a sing-along followed.
Wednesday we headed for Jimbour House, a most beautiful "house", overlooking the
surrounding countryside with gracious gardens. Members of the Dalby Car Club also joined
us and entertained us with some bush poetry. The
trip ended with a visit to a wheat farm where
many old cars were stored in a shed, along with
some interesting machinery used on wheat farms
today.
David Grant put so much effort into ensuring that
this was a very interesting and varied trip in all the
places he organised for us to visit. We thank you so
much David on behalf of the whole group for the way
the whole weekend was so well planned.
