Meet the Head Coach
Head Coach Nicole Riley
Nicole Riley begins her first season as the head softball coach at Rhode Island College.
She replaced Maria Morin, who stepped down this past summer after 18 seasons with the
program.
“I am more than excited and proud to rejoin my family at Rhode Island College and to
be a part of an amazing program,” Riley said. “I have a lot of work ahead of me, but luckily I
have had the honor and privilege of playing for Coach Morin, so it’s helpful to refer back to
a solid foundation of tradition, team unity
and championships.”
Riley wrapped up her spectacular
career as an Anchorwoman in 2007. In total, she appeared in 122 career
games, starting 98 of them. Riley posted a 77-20 record to go along with
five saves, a 1.54 ERA, 600 strikeouts, 59 complete games and 23 shutouts.
She is Rhode Island College’s all-time leader in career appearances, games
started, wins and shutouts. Riley ranks second in innings pitched, strikeouts,
and relief appearances, while ranking fourth in complete games and career
ERA.
As a senior, Riley was named a Second Team All-American by the
National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). She was also named the
Cox Sports Television Rhode Island Female Athlete of the Year, First Team
All-New England, the Little East Conference’s Co-Pitcher of the Year and
garnered First Team All-Little East honors. At the time, Riley established
the longest consecutive winning streak in NCAA Div. III softball history
(43 games), which began on Mar. 17, 2006 and ended on Apr. 22, 2007.
Furthermore, as a junior in 2006, Riley was the Little East Conference
Pitcher of the Year, a First Team All-LEC selection and a First Team AllNEISCA All-Star.
She was named to the 2007 NCAA
N.E. Regional’s All-Tournament
Team where she went 3-0 in four
appearances with a 0.97 ERA and 21
strikeouts in 21.2 innings. The senior
righty appeared in 43 games, starting 36 of them. Riley was 29-5 with a 1.12 earned run
average and two saves. She struck out 233 batters in 219.1 innings of work and logged
12 shutouts. Her 2007 campaign established new program records for the most games
started (36), wins, innings pitched, strikeouts and shutouts in a season.
As a junior in 2006, she appeared in 34 games, starting 27 of them, and was 26-2
with two saves, a 1.38 ERA and 172 strikeouts in 192.1 innings pitched. She was also a
First Team All-New England selection and was named to the 2006 NCAA Div. III New
England Regional Softball Tournament’s All-Tournament Team as an At-Large selection.
As a sophomore in 2005, she appeared in 25 games, starting 17 of them. She owned
a 12-6 record with one save. She had a 2.19 ERA and pitched five complete games. In
112 innings, she struck out 101 batters. As a hitter, she played in 18 games, starting 13
of them.
As a freshman in 2004, she appeared in 20 games, starting 18 of them. She owned
a 10-7 record with a 2.01 ERA. In 104.2 innings pitched, she struck out 94 batters.
She is a 2009 graduate of Rhode Island College, earning a bachelor’s degree in general studies. Riley resides in North Providence, R.I.

Meet the Assistant Coaches
Assistant Coach Erin Bellucci
Erin Bellucci begins her first year as the assistant softball coach. She assists Head
Coach Nicole Riley with all facets of the RIC softball program including recruiting,
scouting, administering practice and game coaching.
“Having the ability to work as the assistant coach for the RIC softball team this year
is a great honor,” said Bellucci. “I have seen this program grow throughout the years and
know of its dominating history. I look forward to working with this very talented group
of ladies and I am excited for a successful 2013 season.”
Bellucci, who played four seasons for regional power Keene State before graduating
in 2007, went 36-13 in the circle with a 1.78 earned run average and earned All-Little
East Conference honors as a junior and senior. While also appearing in the outfield,
Bellucci pushed the Owls to a 117-43 record in her career with NCAA Tournament appearances during her sophomore and senior seasons. She served as a captain as a senior.
Bellucci most recently worked as an assistant softball coach at Wheaton College from 2009 to 2012.
She worked primarily with pitchers and catchers during the season, while leading the pitching instruction
during the program’s Winter Clinics. The former
Keene State standout has been a pitching and hitting
instructor at Uxbridge-based Planet Fastpitch since
early 2008, while giving lessons at Extra Innings in her
hometown of Warwick since 2007.
The former hurler was an assistant coach at her
alma mater in fall 2007, instructed at winter clinics
at Keene State from 2003-07 and worked camps at
the University of Massachusetts for three years. She
previously provided pitching lessons at Extra Innings
in Walpole, New Hampshire, and worked youth basketball clinics for six summers at Bishop Hendricken
High School in her hometown.
A three-year member of the Keene State StudentAthlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), Bellucci earned
a National Strength and Conditioning Association
(NSCA) All-America honor in 2007. During the summers of 2006 and 2007, Bellucci competed for USA
Athletes International for softball series in Peru and
Holland, respectively.
The cum laude graduate earned a general science
degree from Keene State with a certification in secondary education and has been a teacher at Wamsutta
Middle School in Attleboro since 2008. She is currently enrolled in the School Counseling Master’s Program
at Rhode Island College.
