The performances showcased the dance program at Murrumburrah Public School with all students participating enthusiastically in the presentations. The “YMCA” performed by K, 1 and 2 students certainly brought back memories for myself and the older students as, when I was working with K-2 students and staff, we used to dance to it with a lot of enthusiasm but, on my part, not a lot of talent! “Footloose” and “Party Rock Anthem” were very colourful, fun items with students actively performing routines and enjoying themselves. Thank you to Finn Cowden for helping with the music for last night. Congratulations to our student leadership team for 2012. The School Captains for 2012 are Emma Manwaring and Rory Fogg. They will provide excellent leadership for the student body being ably assisted by the Student Representative Council members Lucy Chesworth, Ryan Daley, Claudia Flanery, Oscar Forsyth, Will Goode and Breeanna Trembath. The House Captains are: - Allunga – Keelie Ford and Coady MortonManwaring; Bareki - Ryan Daley and Tayla Gaudie; Mokera – Haylee Irving and Blake Jakiwczyk. The range of awards covers all aspects of school life with the major awards being Citizenship – Samantha Cross; School Education Director’s Award – Megan Sharman; Sportsmanship Awards – Angus Curtis and Samantha Cross. Congratulations to these students and the many other students who were recognised on the evening. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to my farewell last night with the slideshow bringing back some wonderful memories. The naming of The Citizenship Award after me is a special privilege and honour which was totally unexpected but deeply appreciated. The “Book of Letters” from the students will be treasured and their comments made me feel very special. My “Wise Owl” sculpture and “Garden Birds” will find special places in my garden and be special mementos from my time at MPS. Thank you Samantha and Kirsty for your kind words and many contributions as Presidents of The P&C and The School Council. You exemplify the many people who have gone before you and who have contributed so much to the school. The most special memories will be of the friendships, support, good times and trust in allowing me to become a part of so many families’ lives. I have been involved with the Harden-Murrumburrah community through very good times and also during some difficult times. The good times are celebrated happily but it is during the difficult times that I have seen the incredible spirit of the district’s people draw them together and support each other. This is reflected in the students and the way they will step up and work together to achieve a goal. Whether it is in class, on the sporting field or in a dance routine, the students work with each other and strive towards the achievement of that goal. I wish everyone a Happy Christmas and best wishes for 2012.
