A Publication by the Senior Honors Research & Writing Class THE REBEL WEEKLY Volume 2, Issue 3 Bessemer Academy Redheaded Discount By: McKenzie Ludvik IPhone 6? A grown man estimates he has saved over £200 dollars on alcohol purchases, taxi fees, and night-club entrance fees using an unusual discount. In Arberdeen, Scotland, a red-haired man or “ginger” (a term used in a derogatory manner) created an obviously fake but well made card for the color of his hair, naming it the “Ginger Discount Card.” On his 26th birthday, Richard Macrae was gifted a laminated orange car with all of his personal information and ID picture below the words “Ginger Discount Card.” "I ask if they do the ginger discount, and when they look confused I slide across my card," the 30-year-old explained to The Scotsman. Although Macrae doesn't use his discount on every purchase, he admits to have saved tons of money from drinks to transportation. Macrae says he never asks for a discount once the “ginger” joke has been told, but it "opens folk up to a bit of banter back and forth," adding, "any money off is always handy." Over the past four years, the Scottish native has encountered good, bad, and funny reactions; "I thought it was really funny and unique as I had never seen anyone try to use something like that before," said charmed 24-year-old server Kirsty Davidson of the Illicit Still. In conclusion, the new iPhone 6 will be bigger, pricer, have a better processor, better camera, and a crystal screen. The Have you heard the rumors about the Apple designers could only say five words iPhone? Well you may actually see them about their new device, “Wish we could say soon. According to various articles, the new more.” iPhone is set to be released on September 9, 2014. Not only will the Iphone 6 hopefully be released but with the new update iOS 8. Since September 9th will be the first launch cycle you will not likely be able to buy it until around September 16. Along with a larger price tag for the new mobile device, a larger screen and better camera will also come with the device. With the larger screen it comes also with a new sapphire crystal screen. Of course the iPhone will still have the fingerprint scanner. By:Austin Jordan Power Lunch Menu of Thursday, 9/4 Patience Corn Dogs, Tater Tots By: Austin Jordan W e now live in a generation that gives instant results. For example when you are hungry we go to a fast food drivethrough, or if we need to find out information we either Google it or ask Siri. Everyone struggles with some degree of impatience. Sadly, we are all born with this trait. So what exactly is the biblical definition of patience? It can either mean longsuffering and perseverance, or not giving up under pressure. In reality, it reveals itself when we are willing to wait without frustration while suffering or experiencing a strong desire. What this means is we accept difficult situations without giving God deadlines. Patience means accepting what the Lord gives, on His time or what He chooses not to give. When we do this we will find inner peace and lack of stress. Meanwhile while dealing with be impatient we should pray, obey, and seek God’s direction. Psalm 37:7, which says, “Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him.” Seek His way and His timing. Anything else can be destructive. Just remember that God’s timing is ALWAYS perfect. Ask Napoleon Dynamite Hey Napoleon, I’ve been kind of down lately because I haven't found my soul mate yet. I’m considering on line dating websites. What do you think I should do? -Kip WannaBe Dear Kip WannaBe, I know what it is like to not have found your dream girl. When my best friend Pedro had a date and I still hadn’t found a woman to take to the dance I was pretty jealous. But online dating websites can be a good idea. I definitely recommend you use Farmers Only. Although farmers can be hard to understand sometimes they are quality people when they remember their check book. -Napoleon Dear Napoleon... I have a new crush on a girl named Lafonda. But the only time I see her is during lunch, and I’m not sure how to how to begin to talk to her. -Lafonda’s future hubby Hey there, I can probably give you a few tips. First, if you don’t have any cake building skills you can try introducing yourself with a fricken awesome drawing of them. If this fails, buy a gold chain and try the white gangsta look...Lafonda’s are into it;) -Peace out ND Hey Napoleon, I’ve recently been moved to first lunch, and so now I’ve been getting wayyyyy hungry in some of my later classes. Any advice to solve this food injustice??? -Food Lover Dear Food Lover, Fortunately, yes I do...two words... pocket tots! But in using this method you need to be careful of large, hungry, overly aggressive bullies. -The Ultimate Tot Lover Napoleon bessemeracademy.com The Rebel Weekly Page 2 Gamer's Corner: Warframe W G ive a shout-out to friends, classmates, teachers, or coaches! Developer Digital Extremes state the game is in “open-beta” status, meaning the game is available to play but is constantly receiving updates including balance, menu and UI design, ,new weapons, and new “frames.” These titular Warframes are what allow the Tenno, an ancient clan of ninjas, their abilities. Each frame is different from another, offering 4 unique abilities each as well as different speed, health, and armor stats. Three frames are available to choose from the beginning, but all 12 can be unlocked via purchase or through obtaining components to build them. Every item from these frames to weapons to purely cosmetic changes can be obtained by earning credits from completing missions. The superficial upgrades such as colors and accessories are only available with Platinum, which players must buy with real money. contacts fall out* Laterra to Abby S.Eyebrows on fleek ;) The superficial upgrades such as colors and accessories are only available with Platinum, which players must buy with real money. All items that have actual effects on gameplay can be bought with earned credits or found via random drops in levels. These levels are set on the planets in our solar system and even moons of certain planets, or on large space ships orbiting above them. The player’s Tenno completes various tasks for the Lotus, leader of the clan, against multiple hostile and alien factions. The game is a third-person over-the-shoulder shooter, but does not play like a simple cover-based game of the genre. Being a clan of Ninjas, the Tenno are very agile. They can sprint, jump, and execute other maneuvers including sliding, wall-running vertically and horizontally, and performing backflips from walls. Players are able to aim and shoot their weapons during all these moments and can also string together moves with their melee weapons into combos. Ranged weaponry include the standard shooter armament, plus bows and arrows and an acid-spitter. For melee weapons, there exist varying sizes of swords and daggers, hand-to-hand fist weapons, axes, even a scythe, and more. As previously stated, each frame also has 4 unique abilities to make use of. All frames have three standard abilities including invisibility or a dash attack which deplete a player’s energy bar. A powerful, ultimate ability which consume a great deal of energy can include a damaging, massive attack around the player or raising AI-controlled allies to fight for a brief period. The game is available to download now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. H Laterra to Hannah K.Maybe I hate you will be our I love you ello Ladies! this column is a weekly reminder to pay attention to your makeup! This column will also give advice, tips, and the honest truth. Hey ladies, do you wear glasses? Don’t sweat it! I will share some tips for those of you who wonder how to wear your makeup and wear glasses. I myself wear glasses, so I practice these methods daily. 1. Eyeliner is key. It really adds definition from behind your lenses. Try gel liner on the top, and a thin stroke of powder liner on the bottom. 2. Always define your brows with a shadow the same shade as your hair color. This will ensure that your glasses don't overpower your face. Corrector and concealer underneath the eye and in the creases is essential. The glass in your frames can highlight under-eye discoloration and darkness. Your Face By: Casey Burnette 4. Waterproof mascara won't smudge on your lenses. Apply two coats. 5. If you have strong frames, you can get away with stronger makeup. 6. Don't let your makeup overpower your frames if they're delicate or nude. Choose softer colors for shadow and create definition with a dark liner and mascara. 7. The color of your eye shadow shouldn't compete with the color of your glasses. If you want to do the same color as your frames on your eyelids, try a base hue that's a shade lighter, and go a few shades darker for the crease color. Finish with black liner and mascara. 8. For an easy look, go with a bold color on your lips and just corrector, concealer, and mascara for your eyes. Put on your glasses and you're done. If your car says Dodge on the front of it, do you really need a horn? If you cant DODGE it then RAM! If the #2 pencil is the most popular, why is it still #2? Because I’m #1! Last week's random student was....................... Bradly Cottingham September Birthdays By: PJ Garrett T his weeks interview with coach was very interesting. He began telling us how proud he is of Judd “The Hog” Hogland for making such a bold prediction at the pep rally last thursday. For those of you who missed it, The Hog grabbed the microphone from Coach Wright and exclaimed “We’re going to beat Kingwood next Tuesday.” Kress’s exact words on the subject were, “The Hog is a wildman.” On another subject, Kress was ecstatic about the way the defense played against Marengo last Thursday. He said, “Defense forced 6 turn overs… SPECTACULAR!” He said although the team played good, his favorite thing about the game is conversing with the offensive coordinator Coach Thomas. When asked about the game this week, Coach replied with one word, “Domination.” For those of you who do not know, Coach Kress, along with Coach Spurgeon, previously worked at Kingwood Christian School, Besemer’s opponent this week. Coach Kress does not like Kingwood, nor does he enjoy the fact that he once was employed there. When asked about going home this Thursday Coach Kress answered, “Don’t ever say that to me again.” Animal of the Week: Aye-Aye By: Cole Morgan The aye-aye is this week's amazingly creepy however extremely intriguing animal of the week. These little guys can only be found on the African island of Madagascar. They are closely related to the chimpanzee family; however, aye-ayes do not look similar to them in most ways. They have a very dark coat of fur, and are well-known for their large bushy tail. Another distinct feature is their long slender claws by which they hang from limbs with. This amazing creature also closely resembles the sloth in which it spends the majority of their lives sleeping in forest trees. The aye-aye is a nocturnal animal and spends the entire in a sort of fetal position in a homemade nest made of leaves. Aye-ayes feed on the larvae of insects in their home trees, and also uses its claws to peel the inside of coconuts and other fruits that are important in their food regimen. The native people of Madagascar consider this animal bad luck. For this reason some people kill them on sight, and from years of population destruction the aye-aye has become endangered and protected by law. The final score was 30-13. The Rebels had an outstanding defensive performance; they forced 6 turnovers. Coach Kress called this feat “spectacular.” However, the Rebels suffered some unfortunate injuries. Senior Josh Boles and junior Brandon Cook both injured their knees. Countless players suffered from cramps during the game, but next week these players will try to hydrate more to prevent this from happening again. A couple of the players who stood out last Thursday were receiver Josh Boles who had 6 receptions for 110 yards and a touchdown; quarterback PJ Garrett, who had 26 attempts with 15 completions and 2 touchdowns, and linebacker Chase Smith had 7 solo tackles on defense. The Rebels played pretty well, but they committed a lot of penalties. Specifically, many of Bessemer’s drives stalled because of false start penalties. These kind of mistakes can not happen if the Rebels want to be winning in November. When asked about tonight’s region game against Kingwood, Coach Jon answered “Big teams show up to play in big region games. Small peasants do not. What are we?” Coach Thomas later added, “We can only play as good as our mental toughness allows us to.” The football team would like to extend an invitation to come and support the team during this game at Kingwood 7pm. Football Stats At Monday night’s volleyball game, the Lady Rebels took down the TA Knights. In set one, the girls easily took the win with an 11 point lead. The second set proved to be a little bit difficult, but they pulled through winning 25-18. TA found their groove in the middle of the third set and fought back to win 26-24. Determined to win, our girls buckled down in an intense fourth set and won 25-21. Thanks go out to all the parents, friends, and faculty members for coming out and supporting our Lady Rebels. We will be expecting you at the next home game against Pickens Academy on September 9. els Reb By: Joshua Boles See the new athletic website for photos and rosters!
