(2016-2017) school year in Wilson County. Ava Wardlaw sits

The new site for Fourteen Food's Dairy Queen
"Grill & Chill" location,
at the intersection of Old
Lebanon Dirt Road and
Mt. Juliet Road, is set to
begin construction this
month at its prime corner location in Mt. Juliet.
"We are excited about
the addition of the new
Dairy Queen "Grill &
Chill" concept to Robinson Crossing. We feel it
is a great addition to the
community and especially to this location," said
Bill Robinson - Robinson
Properties.
The resturaunt will
feature its popular American food menu items
such as hamburgers &
cheeseburgers,
french
fries, hot-dogs & chili
dogs,
soda
products
and, of course, most importantly the chain's famous line of ice cream
products.
Brian Peterson, director of real estate and development for Fourteen
Foods, selected the site,
working with the City of
Mt. Juliet.
"It has been a long
process for site selection
and location," said Brian Peterson of Fourteen
Foods. "It has been 3
1/2 years working on a
site for Mt. Juliet," Peterson said. The Fourteen Foods representative continued, "We're
excited to get the project under construction
and to serve ice-cream.
We expect the new location to be open by yearend," concluded Peterson. Fourteen Foods is
a multi-unit owner and
operator of 176 DQ Grill
& Chill® restaurants and
Dairy Queen Braziers in
Alabama, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky,
Minnesota,
Nebraska,

Former Wilson Central High School coach pleads not guilty;
New interim coach named to serve in temporary position

Wilson County high schools in Mt. Juliet were in full swing
as students made their way into the school hallways and
parking lots. Mt. Juliet High School (above) was a packed
house as students started their first day of school. The high
school, built to hold 2,000 students, has a total of 2,200 high
school students for the new school year.
Injury crash involving semi
truck on I-40 in Mt. Juliet

A serious injury crash,
involving a passenger
vehicle and semi truck,
happened
on
Interstate-40 last Thursday.
The accident occurred
along mile-marker 226,
near the Mt. Juliet interstate exit.
It caused the two left
lanes to be blocked delaying the flow of traffic.
Emergency
officials
quickly responded to
assist
with
travelers
involved and to safely
move motorists' vehicles
involved along the right
side emergency lanes of
the Providence/Mt. Juliet interstate exit.

Former softball coach
and teacher of Wilson
Central High School, Michael Shepard, gave a
plea of being not guilty
through his newly appointed attorney to accused charges in Wilson
County Criminal Court
on Friday, July 22nd.
Shepard hired attorney, Adam Parrish, to assist in the case as Shepard's defense attorney.
The former coach &
teacher is charged with
two counts of statutory
rape by an authority figure, according to authorities after a prolonged investigation.
Shepard
posted
a
$25,000 bail after being
arrested at his home,
prior to hiring his newly
appointed attorney.
His next date in Criminal Court at the Wilson
County Courthouse will
be on Sept. 12.
As the brand new
school year quickly approached, Wilson Central High School administration had limited
time to find a qualified
candidate to appoint as
interim softball coach for
the 2016-2017 school
year.
Principal, Travis Mayfield, discussed options
and reviewed candidates
with staff to come to a
conclusion of a qualified,
non-facility parent who
volunteered to step up
and fill the position for
the season.
Shawn Smith will be
the temporary coach in
Spring of 2017 when
softball swings into season.
Smith told Wilson
Central Principal, Travis
Mayfield, that he only
wanted to fill this position for one year.

entrepreneur originally
from Carthage, TN and
single mother of her son,
Dylan.
Amongst the struggle
of corporate America,
while working in medical
sales for years, Mason
designed and created
her own clothing on the

Detectives are working
to identify a suspect who
broke into a vehicle and
used the victim’s credit cards in the Nashville
area.
The suspect recently
broke into the vehicle at
Planet Fitness, located at
1335 N. Mt. Juliet Road.

with tinted windows. Detectives retrieved surveillance video at several locations where the stolen
cards were used.
Surveillance video revealed a heavy-set black
female, wearing a yellow
shirt, using the stolen
credit cards to purchase
cigarettes and beer.
Another
individual
was driving the suspect
vehicle, and that individual was wearing a black
one in the community
may have information
about the suspects or
their vehicle.

Detectives search for daytime burglary suspect caught on camera
Detectives are hoping
to identify an unknown
man who forced his way
into a home and stole a
small safe.
On Wednesday, July
20, 2016 around noon, a
burglary was committed
by the unknown man at
a residence in the 1000
block of Rolling Meadow
Drive. The burglar’s actions were captured on
the home’s surveillance
system.

The burglar entered

and dark-colored shoes.
After committing the
burglary, the man left in
the same car he arrived
in. The car is described
as a white 4-door ear-
ly 2000’s model Nissan

Fatal accident on I-40 in Wilson County
An accident involving a
passenger and commercial vehicle resulted in a
fatality for the driver of
the passenger vehicle last
Wednesday.
Tennessee
Highway
Patrol (T.H.P.) responded
to the scene of the accident, on Interstate 40 in
Wilson County, to dis-
cover the driver of the
passenger vehicle, Yohan
Abraham age 30, deceased at
the scene of
the wreck.

was
traveling east when he
encountered traffic sud-
denly at a slow hault.
According to investigators,
it
was believed
that
death
occurred instantly
as
the passenger vehicle
rear-ended the commercial vehicle.
The incident happened
around 6:15 p.m. at mile
marker 232 close to the
Highway 109 interstate
exit causing delays for
motorists heading east
until after 8 p.m. when
the wreck was cleared.
According to T.H.P.,
charges would not be
filed in the case.

A shopper recently
brought in a fallen military veteran's property,
along with their donation, to the Mt. Juliet
Goodwill
location
in
Providence.
A Goodwill employee
discovered the belong-
ings of the lost soldier inside of a bag that is normally given to those that
have passed away.
Store
employees
found the following items
inside of the discovered
bag: Dog-tag, driver's license, and family photos.
On the dog-tag was
inscribed, Sgt. Asbury
Freddie Hawn, the name
of a local fallen soldier of
who was killed in Iraq by
a roadside bomb in 2005.
A memorial was dedicated to Sgt. Hawn, on
State Route 840, where
many Tennessean's recognize the part of the
highway that his name is
honored with.
The items left at
Goodwill were in his wallet the day he died.

extremes to find the family and possible owner of
these items.
The search led Hubanks to social media
where he posted a blogs
to the local community
of the items that had recently been found.
It was on Facebook
that he found the fallen
Sergeant's widow. Hubanks reached out to
her in attempts that she
might receive his message.
Days went by with
no reply. Apparently
though, communication
was made. The widow
came to the Goodwill location to claim the belongings that she thought
she had misplaced forever as emotions were were
sparking for the widow.

Consider. The centurion’s servant. A Roman!
And a soldier at that. A
powerful symbol of oppression. But he cared
about his servant, who
was at home, paralyzed.
Tormented. A Jew would
not be likely to extend
help to a Roman authority figure. But Jesus did.

had a level of faith to believe that Jesus could,

possessed by demons.

Dangerous. Scary stuff!
So scary that neighbors
who walked near the
graveyard where the men
lived always made an
abrupt detour to avoid
them. Another word from
Jesus. And in an instant…demons flee. Men
delivered. Restored. (Matthew 8:28-33)
The common threads
in these four stories?
Four miracles. Four horrific conditions cured.
Four stories of restoration. And every one a
most unlikely recipient
of God’s grace. The outcasts. The unpopular.
The feared. But Jesus
loved and delivered. And
the response of the people? They rejected Jesus.
They asked Him to move
on down the road. (Matthew 8:34)
All these years later,
Jesus still loves and delivers the least likely…
you and me. How will we
respond? I want to respond the way the leper
responded. Even though
Jesus instructed him to
tell no one, he told ev-
eryone! He couldn’t help
himself. Restoration does
that! “I once was lost,
but now I’m found. Was
blind, but now I see.”

2016.
Mrs. McCluskey was
born April 3, 1920 in the
Green Hill Community,
now known as Mt. Juliet,
TN to the late, Duncan
and Gladys Ware Ligon.
She lived her whole life
in this area, attending the local elementary school and graduated from Mt. Juliet High
School where she played
basketball, one of her
lifetime loves. Mrs. McCluskey attended Cum-
berland University from
1937-1938 and played
collegiate basketball. She
and her Mother opened
Ligon’s Flower Shop in
Donelson in 1941 and
operated the shop for
43 years. During WWII,
Mrs. McCluskey worked
at Vultee as a riveter and
that was where she met
the love of her life, Mac.
She retired from Tennessee Telephone Company
after 20 years of service.
Mrs. McCluskey was an
avid knitter, crocheter
and sports enthusiast.
She taught hundreds of
high school girls to knit
and she never missed a
high school football or
basketball game. Mrs.
McCluskey was an active
member of Cooks United Methodist Church, a
Brownie Scout Leader,
a 50 year member of the
Green Hill Family and
Consumer
Education
Club, Green Hill Women’s Club, Daughters of
the American Revolution, the African Violet
Society of America and
Harvey Freeman Chapter
#181, Order of the Eastern Star. She occasionally went fishing with Mac,
but after she caught the
biggest crappie he had
ever seen - he didn’t take
her fishing again. In addition to her parents,
she was also preceded
in death by her husband
of nearly 70 years, W.J.
“Mac” McCluskey and
her brother, Herschel Ligon.
She is survived by: Son

2016 around 10:00 a.m.,
Elliott was summoned to
Walmart, located at 300
Pleasant Grove Road, to
assist an elderly man
who was unresponsive in
the grocery.
Elliott arrived on the
scene within two minutes of dispatch, and he
noticed a store employee
attempting CPR on the
patient. Once the employee saw Elliott, the
employee stopped CPR.
Elliott then took over immediately and resumed
CPR on the man until
medics arrived. Personnel from Wilson County
Emergency Management
Agency (WEMA) and Mt.
rived on the scene and
relieved Elliott of his efforts to save the man’s
life. Eventually, the man
was revived by medics
and transported to a
hospital.
“Because of the quick
response by Officer Elliott, and the use of
training provided to our
officers, the man’s life
was saved,” stated Chief
James Hambrick. “This
is another example that
Mt. Juliet’s police officers are here to serve,
in whatever capacity,
to ensure the ultimate
well-being of our citizens
and visitors.”

CHILD Every child can
learn. Children with disabilities are--first and
foremost--children.
Therefore, they are entitled to the benefits and
rights the law gives children, and local government and school districts
in Tennessee will make
the same effort for children with disabilities
as for children without
disabilities. Tennessee’s
Individuals and Disability Education Act makes
certain special provisions
for children with disabilities. The State must provide free public education
each and every child age
3-21 who has disability.
All local public education
systems are to maintain
a program to locate and
identify at the earliest

in decisions concerning
their children. All Tennessee School systems

Whitney Jackson, was
diagnosed with Cystic
Fibrosis when she was
born in 1993.
Whitney is the daughter of Sandi Camacho.
Sandi and family have
been struggling with how
to afford such an expensive procedure in a difficult time as this.
The doctors at Vanderbilt University, downtown Nashville, have recommended a life-saving
double lung transplant.
Mt. Juliet citizens
are raising funds for
The Children's Organ
Transplant Association
(COTA), a national charity dedicated to organizing and guiding communities in raising funds
for
transplant-related
expenses, in honor of
transplant patients like
Whitney.
An estimated $50,000
is being raised by the Mt.
Juliet community.
With the cost of transplants often exceeding
families budgets, many
are unable to afford such
a procedure.
Volunteers are needed
to assist with fundraising
activities that will help
with transplant-related
expenses.
