KEY CLUB WINS BIG AT
STATE CONVENTION
Ten M.P.A Key Club members and faculty advisor, Darrel
Van Kirk traveled to Itasca, Illinois April 4th to attend the IllinoisEastern Iowa District Key Club Convention.
The Key Club was awarded seven patches for their
banner and one trophy.
The patches include:
1. 100% on-time reporting - The club's Statistical
Secretary, Jodi Kapjon, submitted all statistical reports on time
throughout the past year.
2. Early Bird Dues - The club's Treasurer, Leon Que,
submitted the dues to both the I-I District and Key Club
International prior to the October deadline.
3. Super Patch - The club contributed at least $6.50
per member to Spastic Paralysis research.
4. Public Relations - The Morgan Park Academy Key
Club had the best record of public relations of all clubs in the I-I
District during the past year.
5. Theme and Major Emphasis - "Inspire
Achievement" was the year's theme. Through the efforts of Key
Clubbers in the areas of tutoring, Spastic Paralysis research, and
other community care projects such as canned food and toy
drives, the club was able to earn this patch.
From L to R: Jodi Kapjon, Shannon Silverman, faculty advisor Darrel
VanKirk, and Tiffany Woodie
The Key Club also received a trophy in recognition of
the fact that the annual Spastic Paralysis Research contributions
were the third highest in the I-I Distric t. "This is quite an
accomplishment considering the fact that we are not only
competing with the entire District but with schools of nearly
2,000 students compared to our 160 (upper school students),"
Van Kirk said.

On Saturday, February 15, eight Middle School musicians participated in the
Illinois State Solo/Ensemble Contest which was held at Crete/Monee Junior High
School. This was the first year that a number of students participated in this contest.
Last year Mike Danielewicz won three first place ratings in his three instruments:
oboe, clarinet, and piano. This year he did exactly the same. The other eighth grade
participants were Jon Bertoletti, Dana Sasso, and Renee Canik. Jon received a second
place for his saxophone solo, as did Renee Canik for her flute solo. The other four
participants were a group of sixth graders playing a quartet. They were: Carolyn
Moews - flute, Melissa Ahmed - clarinet, Paul Lazo - trumpet, and Stephanie
Mallinga - trumpet. They received a first place. Congratulations to all!!!
