May, 2016 Greetings, and welcome to the June issue of Corvette Expressions. While the month of May did not offer the typical, spring-like weather that we are used to this time of year, there were still some great events/activities. Despite some mediocre weather, our Bar-A vette-together was a big success this year. Once again, the activities and Bar-A committees did an excellent job of organizing and running this event. We also had numerous requests for information about how to become a Corvette Express member. This is "proof positive" to the quality and professionalism of our club and events. This is really just the beginning of the season for us. As usual, our calendar is full of things to do and places to go. May 7 was the first cruise (and beer fest) of the season along the Delaware River, organized and led by Bill Nagle. Club members were treated to some great scenery, a nice lunch, and of course, some great beer! Corvette Nanny (Lynn Earhart) hosted the first of our monthly Fireside Restaurant vette-togethers on May 9 (rescheduled from May 2 due to inclement weather.) The Corvette Express Club car show and BBQ took place on May 15 at the Bar A, and was a HUGE success! A special thanks to Skip Allen who always does an awesome job organizing this event, and kudos to everyone who helped as well. And thanks to Lynn Schneiderman for all the great pictures! Our club picnic is also this month. Details, sign up sheet, and deposits will be taken at the June meeting. Hope to see you all there... The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 1. See you then. Yours in Corvettes, Rob Lombardi Lisa Force Newsletter Editor -2- Corvette Expressions 3rd Edition—Volume 118 June, 2016 Upcoming Events/Activities Corvette Express 2016 Activities Committee - Bill Nagle, Chairperson At the December 7 meeting were Dion Denardo, Joe and Linda Fernandez, Larry and Lisa Force, Kathy and Frank Jones, John Murrell, Donna and Bill Nagle, Al and Anita Quigley, Dave Schneiderman, Don and Lynne Smith and Bill and Carol Zide. Zora Duntov named chief Corvette engineer. T-top, removable back window, vacuum operated headlights and wiper door, and fiber optic monitoring of lights were a few of the new features. Automatic trans is now famous TH400 3 speed Battery moved to comp. behind driver's seat. "Astroventilation" added to improve cabin air flow Stingray badging dropped for 1968 Just as in 1963, first year next generation car has many one year only parts. 1969: Stingray name returns. Started interior and body refinement; such as eliminating push button on door, reverse lights moved up as center tail lamps, door panels, seat belts and addition of map pocket on pass. side dash. Factory side pipe option returns with newly designed covers. Small block engine displacement increases from 327 to 350 ci. Labor dispute in May 69 caused model run to be stretched 4 months -accounts for high number of 1969s and low production run of 1970 models. 1970: Subtle body and interior changes included new 'eggcrate" side fender and front grills, wheel openings flared toward back to help reduce tire debris onto body, 1 piece silver rocker molding, new interior door panel design. Big block engine increased to 454ci from 427. Tinted glass and positraction differential standard. Black exterior color not available. 1971: Few changes due to short production run of 70 models. Engine comp. ratios down due to lower octane fuels. Last year for M-22 heavy duty Muncie 4 speed. Only year for 425HP RPO "LS-6" 454. Last year of fiber optic monitor 1972: Last year for many details: removable rear window, pop up wiper door, chrome front bumper and grills, solid lifter "LT-1" small block ( only year LT-1 was offered with A/C), headlight washer system.
