The adventure begins before the magnificent cascades of Victoria Falls, one of nature’s most sublime creations, before you journey by light aircraft deep into the heart of Chobe National Park. Here, besides the banks of the Linyanti River, you’ll enjoy safaris and sunsets against the vast canvas of an African landscape. Flying on to the glittering spectacle of the Okavango Delta, you’ll then enjoy canoe rides and walking tours across the lagoons and islands of one of Africa’s most breathtaking settings, before flying to Mozambique to enjoy four days relaxing amongst the wild and unspoilt beauty of the Machangulo Peninsula. Itinerary Day 1: Victoria Falls Arriving in Victoria Falls today you'll be transferred on to the stunningly located Gorges Hotel, set against the magnificent backdrop of the Batoka Gorge. The rest of the day is at leisure, providing a chance to relax and perhaps enjoy the courtship rituals and aerial acrobatics of a pair of resident Verreaux's eagles. As evening approaches they start to hunt, so sit back with a sundowner and watch them soar past on the late afternoon thermals. Overnight at Gorges Lodge. (D) Day 2: Victoria Falls A short drive back to Victoria Falls this morning presents you with one of the world's most breathtaking spectacles. Known locally as Mosi-oa-Tunya (the Smoke that Thunders), Victoria Falls is one of nature's most captivating settings and today provides a chance to enjoy a full day of activities around the falls. Late this afternoon you'll then be able to enjoy a guided gorge walk, before enjoying refreshments and sunset at Peregrine Point. Overnight at Gorges Lodge. (B,L,D) Day 3: Victoria Falls Gorges Lodge has been working with the local community for over two decades. Today you'll get a chance to visit a local village, where you'll gain a unique insight into Zimbabwean rural life. A friendly welcome and a chance to visit some of the local houses will be followed by an opportunity to join the villagers in crushing grain, ploughing the fields and brewing beer, before paying a visit to a local primary school. Overnight at Gorges Lodge. (B,L,D) Day 4: Victoria Falls - Savuti Travel into neighbouring Botswana, where you fly on to the Savute by light aircraft. The next two nights will be spent at the engaging Savute Lodge, on the banks of the Linyanti River. Set against the raw backdrop of Chobe National Park, the lodge provides a range of activities, with the focus being on open-topped game drives that take in the rich beauty of the Savute Marsh and the ancient San rock paintings in the nearby Gubatsa Hills. Home to lions, wild dogs, large herds of elephants, buffalo and giraffe, during the summer months these rich savannahs witness the second largest zebra migration in Africa. (B,L,D) Day 6: Savuti - Okavango Delta Following an early morning game drive, you'll transfer by light aircraft on to Xugana Camp, crossing the vast expanse of the spectacular Okavango Delta. Occupying a stunning location in the heart of the seasonal flood plains, your lodge provides the ideal setting from which to explore the waterways that make up the Delta. This afternoon you'll venture out in traditional mokoros (dug out canoes), to search out some of the dozens of birds and reptiles that make this watery world their home. (B,L,D) Day 7: Okavango Delta Xugana provides the opportunity to enjoy a pure Delta experience, with mokoro trips, walking tours through the surrounding lagoons and islands and some stunning birdwatching experiences. During the summer months in particular, these islands and channels play host to a dazzling array of migrant birds, whilst the chance to fish for bream and tiger fish is always on offer at the lodge. (B,L,D) Day 8: Okavango Delta - Maputo Following an optional sunrise mokoro trip this morning you'll take your breakfast overlooking the flood plains, before flying on to Maun by light aircraft. From here it is then just a short flight on to Johannesburg, from where you will transfer to a connecting flight on to neighbouring Mozambique (Flights not included - booked as part of international flight ticket). On arrival in Maputo, you'll then be driven on to your hotel in the heart of the city. (B) Day 9: Maputo - Machangulo Pensinsula Leaving the city behind this morning, you have a short drive on to your lodge at Machangulo Beach, located amongst the wild dunes that lie sandwiched between the Indian Ocean and the estuaries of Maputo Bay. Untamed and untouched, this idyllic setting presents a chance to enjoy a stunning array of wold-class activities, from fishing and diving, to island picnics and dhow trips. (B,L,D) Day 10: Machangulo Pensinsula The next four days provide ample opportunities to enjoy some of the myriad charms of Maputo Bay, with snorkelling excursions and canoe trips available, visits to nearby Santa Maria and Inchaca villages on offer and a chance to relax with an indulgent spa treatment.
