Dear Parents and Guardians,
This is our first edition of “going green” Parent Newsletter at Gateway High School. If you do not have internet at home, the Town
Center at the Aurora Mall has set up a kiosk with computers for
our parents to have access to all of the school’s websites. You can
also request a paper copy of the newsletter by contacting Cindy
Ramirez in Student Services Office. Since our newsletter is now
online you will be able to access it at anytime.
In this edition you will find names of many of our students and their accomplishments. We
had an enjoyable evening on February 3 where our students with grade point averages
of 3.5 or above came with their parents to be honored.
Staff is already preparing for our newest pathway (MYP Honors Program) that will begin
next year for our incoming 8th graders. We are also preparing for year two in the STEM
program (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). These two new pathways will
offer our students new choices, avenues and prospects for their careers in the future.
You will see in the body of the Parent Newsletter an article on 5th block and summer school
here at Gateway High School. Summer school will consist of online classes and space will
be limited, so please have your student sign up as soon as they can. We are looking for
5th block students who will be our incoming 9th graders and our 10th grade students.
We are always looking for parents to join our PTSA which meets the 3rd Monday of the
month at 7:00 pm or our Accountability Committee which meets on the 4th Monday of the
month at 6:15 pm. Getting involved connects you to all activities that occur at Gateway.
Please come join us!
Spring break is approaching quickly and the school will be closed March 29 through
April 2. The main office will be closed during spring break and will reopen on Monday
April 5 at 7:30 am. Enjoy your spring break with your families.
Sincerely,
Linda Witulski
Principal

The Gateway Cheers held their "Mini Cheer" clinic Saturday February 6. Allie Barnes (Coach Barnes' wife) came in and helped
our cheers work with the future cheers. They learned cheers and
a dance that they performed during the halftime of the boys’
basketball game vs Ponderosa. The performance was GREAT!
Both big and little cheers had fun!
National Signing Day, February 4, 2010, the first day
high school student-athletes can sign letters of intent for

State ACT Testing,
Wednesday April 28
Duties range from selling tickets during the school lunch time
April 6, 8, 12 and 16 (between 11:15 am– 1:35 pm) and on
April 14 (between 12:04 pm – 1:57 pm). On April 17 we
need volunteers to help check in arriving students, monitor
doors, and help with our photograph booth. We will need
dealers for our blackjack and poker tables. If you have one
hour or four hours, or any time to help us, please contact us at:
[email protected] or the after-prom committee:
On Wednesday April 28, all juniors will take the mandatory
state ACT test beginning at 7:50 am. This is a test that will
give all juniors educational information that is helpful to all
students, not just those who are planning to attend college. For
the students who plan to attend college, the ACT is accepted
at all colleges and universities for admission purposes and
scholarship organizations for monetary awards. The NCAA
clearing house now accepts the State ACT for eligibility to play
college athletics. Taking the State ACT Test Wednesday, April
28 saves a student $32 and carries the same importance as
an ACT test taken on a Saturday National Test Day. Students
will receive a booklet that has a full length practice test and
strategies to prepare for the ACT in their English 11 classes
before the April 28 ACT Test. Juniors will report to Gateway
at 7:50 am. on Wednesday, April 28 and bring PHOTO ID
(school ID or driver license), two #2 pencils and a calculator
(prohibited calculators are listed in the ACT practice booklet)
to the ACT test. Juniors will be finish testing about 11:30 and
will have the rest of the day off. This is the same time schedule
students who take the ACT on a Saturday National Test Day
follow. Freshman, sophomores and seniors will not attend
school on Wednesday, April 28. Please call Gateway High
School at 303-755-7160 if you have any questions.

Important Information for Seniors
SENIOR CHECK-OUT SURVEY
Beginning Monday, April 5 through Monday, May 3,
graduating seniors will be required to complete a brief
exit survey online through their individual NAVIANCE
accounts. This 'Senior Checkout Survey' will be under
the 'About Me' folder in NAVIANCE.
The information from this survey will detail what the
student's plans are after graduation, where they will be
pursuing their post-secondary education, where their
final transcript and immunizations need to be sent, and
scholarships they have been offered. Students need
to record all scholarships and grants they have been
offered from all sources: government, national, local,
college-specific, private, etc. College-specific scholarships/grants should be recorded even if the student
has decided not to attend that institution.
If the scholarship/grant you have been offered is not
on the NAVIANCE list, please let Mrs. Jarvis know
and it can be added. Scholarship recognition for all
students will be announced at the Honors Convocation
ceremony May 10. Questions about this check-out and
