and service, into practice through
programs that build a healthy spirit,
mind and body for all.”
The YMCA does not discriminate against any child on the
basis of race, religion, color, national origin, sex, marital
status of the parent, or because of a need for special care.
Our goal is to meet the individual needs of each child within
the structure of our program while maintaining a safe and
healthy environment for all children and staff. The school

2012 YMCA Summer Day Camp
Summer Day Camp Goals
Memories: Ten years from now, it is our hope your child will
remember that special day at camp, that crazy art project
or the wonderful trip to the zoo. But most importantly,
remember the caring camp counselor who took the time to
make them feel special.
Fun: What is summer without fun?! The YMCA is a strong
believer in the value of fun and will offer a variety of
opportunities for kids to be kids and have some plain old fun.
Values: The YMCA is a values driven organization with a
mission that is defined by five key principles: Love, Respect,
Honesty, Responsibility and Service. All activities, programs
and staff reflect these values.
Safety: In YMCA daily programming, safety is the top
priority. This includes not only physical safety, but also the
security in knowing every child is welcomed and nurtured.
Policies, procedures, and trainings are all established in order
to keep the children in our program safe.
Growth: They grow so quickly! As each day passes we will
help children grow to their fullest potential. Through specific
skills development, team work, sportsmanship, and value
centered programming, we support the growth of healthy
children in spirit, mind and body.

Weekly Camp Activities
Field Trips
Getting out and about in the summer months has been a long tradition of the
YMCA. Each week we will be on the move as we explore some of the great activities
in our area! Our trips are designed to coordinate with that week’s particular theme.
On-site Activities
Part of the week we will be at our base site, but don’t plan on sittin’ around. With
our weekly themes, we will keep the fun and excitement coming!
On-site activities include: sports & games, arts & crafts, songs, skits, character
and values development, and so much more.
Nature Zone & Park Visits
Summer is no time to stay indoors! Outside is where we will be. Even if it rains?
Of course, it is Oregon after all. We will explore the wonders of nature, with a trip
to a local park or explore the great outdoors all around us!
Guest Presenters
Some days we will let the FUN come to us. Working
with experts in the community, we’ll have a variety of
entertainers/educators visit camp.
Health & Nutrition
Through CATCH (Coordinated Approach to Child
Health) campers will have opportunities to be
physically active, learn about healthy lifestyle
choices and have FUN while doing it.
Swimming/Bowling
Campers will have the opportunity during
the summer to participate in swimming
and/or bowling. Exact activity and location
will vary depending upon location. Swimmers
must be at least 6 years of age to be in the
pool. If participants are under 6, they will be
provided with an alternate activity.
Please Note: All locations will participate
in the above activities, but the specific
days will vary by program. All field trips
and activities are subject to change, and
alternative programming will be offered.
Weekly Itinerary
The Friday prior to each week, a specific
schedule of activities will be available
at site and at the program office. This
schedule will note the field trip days, as
well as the location of the field trips and
items to bring for the following week.

detailed below. By the end of the week, your child will have
a better understanding of the specialty area and develop
new skills and techniques.
YMCA Art Camp offers a fun
environment for young artists to
explore new techniques and express
their artistic talents. Campers will
have the opportunity to participate
in a variety of different art
mediums during these week
long sessions.
To register or for more information, contact the program
office at: 9500 SW Barbur Blvd. #240, Portland, OR

Please call (503) 327-0007 for more information.
Sports Camps
YMCA Sports Camps will target individual
skill development as well as the team ideals of
sportsmanship and camaraderie. These week long

on the particular skill sets they acquire.
We will give them incentives to continue
to achieve throughout their camp
experience, gaining more advanced

General
Information
Are part-time options available?
All camps (unless noted) operate 5 days per week (MF). Part-time may be available at a 2 or 3 day option.
Limited spaces are available after May 25th for a
$40 per day fee. Contact the Program Office for more
information about the location of your choice. Please
note: For part-time participation, days of attendance
must be established before camp begins. Various
activities, including field trips, differ at each location
and those choosing the part-time option will miss some
activities. Part-time participants are not eligible for
online registration.
Are there any discounts?
• There is a 5% multiple child discount, with the
discount applied to each child.
• A $20 discount for session #3 is applied, due to the
4th of July holiday, and also session #11 due to the
inservice closure on Friday, August. 31.
What if I can’t afford camp?
Is there financial assistance? Yes!
• The YMCA provides financial assistance to lowincome family households. Scholarships are available
through a confidential application process.
• Scholarship forms can be obtained at the Program
Office or from our website, under “Child Care,” at
www.ymcacw.org. The scholarship form, registration,
and applicable deposits are to be turned into the
Program Office.
• The Day Camp Billing Department will evaluate the
scholarship application, and will notify you of the
amount awarded. Applications must be received and
processed by the Billing Department two weeks prior
to the first session of camp you wish to register for.
• Contact (503) 946-5003 for information.
• Scholarships are not retroactive.
Can the YMCA use any volunteers?
Yes! We are a volunteer-based organization and
appreciate additional help. Volunteers are especially
needed for OMSI week #3, the Zoo, week #5 and
Gilbert House, week #7. If you are interested, please
contact your Program Office for more details about
opportunities available.
