Dear Friends,
In looking back on 2012 we are tremendously grateful for your support,
generosity, and kindness! In this report are the names of the people who
make Sisters Place possible. From our talented staff to our dedicated board
members and generous donors, these friends and supporters make a
new life possible for those families among us who are working their way
out of homelessness.
Sisters Place assisted more families than ever last year — 56 parents and 110
children. In the pages of this report we outline our positive outcomes and we
recognize the many people who helped Sisters Place families to do so well!
Please take the time to read about Waldelle, our “Resident of the Year,”
who is resilient, persistent and hopeful about her own life and that of her
daughter. Over the past few years she has addressed serious health issues,
found employment and become a more nurturing mother. On page 4 you’ll
see Waldelle glowing with pride as she celebrates her daughter’s graduation
from the 8th grade. She is one example of the growth and success that is
possible when neighbors help neighbors.
Thank you for helping us to continue the work that we do and for providing
such significant opportunity for the families we serve. It is amazing what can
happen when opportunity is present.

Spotlight on Service: Transitional Housing Program
We all know that life can change in an instant. Life’s challenges are far more easily
met when we have support and an opportunity to recover. In our Transitional
Housing Program, residents are more likely to be young parents whose homelessness
is tied to disability, domestic violence, lack of education, or lack of family support.
Eligible families may participate in the Transitional Program for a maximum of
two years benefiting from rent assistance, case management, and other resources.
Residents must be working or attending school to remain in the program. Families
have the support of a case manager who helps them identify and attain goals.
These young parents receive support that they need to move beyond homelessness,
to grow, to heal, and to recover.
Spotlight on a Resident
“When I got a call from Sisters Place accepting me and my daughter, that was
God answering my prayers. Sisters Place took me and my daughter in. They
welcomed us with open arms and provided a full house of furniture from beds to
sheets to even a shower curtain. Beds were made, even pots and pans were provided
for us, and all we had to do was bring our clothes. I was so thankful and amazed
because we had nothing. I had never seen anything like that — I started crying on
the spot. I have to be forever thankful for the love and compassion that Sisters Place
gave me and my daughter. I don’t know where I would be without them because
I had nowhere else to go.” — Waldelle
In October of 2012 Waldelle received our Resident of the Year award at the Setting a Place for My Sister
breakfast event. Waldelle is continuing her education and maintaining employment. We are delighted to
report that her daughter is excelling in her academics too!

SISTERS PLACE, INC. a place of their own
Sisters Place offers permanent and transitional housing for homeless single parent
families. The Transitional Housing Program provides short-term housing assistance
and supportive services. The Permanent Housing Program is for families with
single parent heads of household who have a disability. Disabilities may include
drug or alcohol addiction, HIV/AIDS, a physical disability or mental health
diagnosis. To be eligible for our programs, the single parent must be homeless, be
at least 18-years-old and not attending high school, and have custody of at least one
child under the age of 18 (or be seven months pregnant). If there is a history of drug
or alcohol addiction, they must have six months verifiable clean time.

Sisters Place assisted a total of 56 families.
110 children resided at Sisters Place throughout the year.
25 of the parents residing at Sisters Place were or became employed.
25 of the parents residing at Sisters Place increased their income.
18 attended workforce development or post-secondary education.
Since taking in the first family in 1997,
Sisters Place has served more than
225 families in overcoming the challenges
of homelessness.

Sexing a Place for My Siser
The Setting a Place for My Sister breakfast will be held on Friday, October 4, 2013.
This event is a wonderful way to get to know Sisters Place better — and we promise
to have you out and on your way to work by 9:00 am. We will present our Community
Partner & Resident of the Year awards plus a live(ly) auction, getaways raffle, basket
raffle, 50/50 and a special presentation by the children of Sisters Place.
The Crushed Grapes wine tasting event will be held on March 6, 2014. Normally, a
little wine is thought to be good for the heart. At Crushed Grapes, it is also good for
the soul. Please consider supporting Sisters Place at this palate pleasing event that
includes food and wine, a silent auction, raffle tickets and a 50/50.
Hats Off to Mom will be held on May 10, 2014. Please consider joining us for this
uplifting event honoring extraordinary women in our community. With or without
a hat, you will find this event brimming with fun! This luncheon features an awards
presentation, basket raffle, jewelry sale and 50/50.
