all in the High Country is officially here! Even
though our summer seemed wet and cool, the
changing of the seasons never disappoints. The
summer residents are starting to leave for warmer
climates. Those brave residents who stay year
round should begin to feel excited, because Fall in
the High Country brings many fun things to do.
Look further inside this edition of The Echo for a list
of festivals and events!
Before you leave the mountain, especially if
you do not plan to come back before the Spring,
make sure that your home is ready for the winter
season. Frozen pipes can cause more damage than
anyone wants to deal with! Please drop by Town
Hall to let us know you’re leaving for the season
and have your water turned off. When you come
back next Spring, please call Town Hall 2 work days
in advance for your water turn-on. We hope you
have enjoyed the summer in the High Country, and
can’t wait to see you in the Spring of 2015!

At the September Town Council meeting, the
Seven Devils Town Council presented Lois
Dodson with a Resolution of Appreciation
for all of her years served on the ABC Board.
Lois served the citizens of her community as
an appointed official for twelve years, from
2002 to 2003 as the Town’s Alternate ABC
Board Representative, and from 2003 to 2014
as the Town’s Regular ABC Board Representative. She served as the Chair of the ABC
Board on three separate occasions, including
years 2005/2006, 2010/2011, and 2013/2014.
The Town greatly appreciates her for all of
her hard work and dedication as the Seven
Devils representative. Thanks Lois!!
Every once in a while, a great project comes forward and receives tremendous support. That happened in Seven Devils in 2013.
The Town acquired a 9.78-acres wooded tract with a stream and
beautiful waterfall. Town residents call the property Otter Falls. The
dream of owning the property had been a long-standing goal for
many people over the years. That goal was realized with support from
the North Carolina Parks and Recreation Trust Fund, The Conservation
Fund, and citizen donations. These two entities and our citizens made
this purchase possible.
The Town has constructed a parking area providing access to the
property. We have also begun building hiking trails. We worked with
Trails Specialist Tim Johnson, employed by the NC Department of
Natural Resources, and Deno Costos, of Benchmark Trails, to design
hiking trails for the property. With volunteer labor, the roughed in
trail is taking shape and public access is possible, though we are
suggesting that everyone wait until the trails are complete. For those
physically able to negotiate the nearly 300 feet drop, it will be a hike
with a view to remember.

The Town is still accepting your generous donations, please stop by
Town Hall for more information!
The Eleventh Annual Seven Devils SafetyFest was held Saturday, July 5, 2014. It was a gorgeous day—the
closest thing to “Heaven” in the High Country. Many enjoyed browsing the craft booths, checking out the
goodies at the bake sale, bidding on Silent Auction items, and listening for their names called as a raffle
winner. The children, and some adults, had fun in the “Kids Carnival” area and playing putt-putt. The Seven
Devils Public Safety Officers and Fireman welcomed the children at the squirt house and the smoke house. They
also passed out goodie bags and showed them equipment on a fire truck. Blowing Rock Fire Dept. brought the
bounce house where a lot of fun took place. Last but not least, a fantastic barbeque meal was offered.
Thank you to our Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Placemat ad sponsors, and Silent Auction and Raffle Contributors. A
special thanks to the many volunteers and Town employees who helped to make SafetyFest possible from start
to finish. SafetyFest 2014 would not have gotten off the ground without their time and energy! We are grateful
for our volunteers. Please consider joining our team next year, as it’s a fun and rewarding event!
Thank you for your support!
