This includes the organisation team, who worked with such imagination and efficiency; the many businesses, who donated prizes to the raffle; the army of helpers, who sold tickets ahead of the event or set up the stalls last Friday, or helped on the day itself; and of course everyone who came along and joined in the fun! There was a lovely atmosphere and laughs had by all. A highlight of the afternoon was definitely Mr Langford getting gunged - check out the happy faces of the children as he gets covered! The amount raised will be announced soon and will all go towards PTA projects, as part of the “Year of Celebrations”, marking 50 years of the King David School at its present site. Tickets go on sale next week for the end-of-year concert, entitled “A Tour Around the Torah”. It will give a whistle-stop retelling of our favourite stories from Biblical times, including the Garden of Eden, Noah’s Ark and Jonah, to name but a few. Year 6 children take the starring roles, while Y3, Y4 and Y5 form the choir and have their own features spots. There are two performances - Tuesday 30th June at 2pm, where Y1 and Y2 will also perform a song and a dance, and Wednesday 1st July at 7pm, with just Y3 up to Y6. Tickets will be on sale Monday (22nd June) after school, just to Y6 parents, and then on general release from Tuesday 23rd June, after school. P.T.O. Each day, bread, soya milk, water and fresh fruit are available. There is also a daily sandwich option. The menu next week: Monday Baked fish fingers with new potatoes, or Sweet and Sour Quorn stir fry; Fruit flapjack Tuesday Minced beef or vegetable spaghetti bolognaise; Jam sponge tart with custard Wednesday Roast beef with roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding, or vegetable samosas; Non-dairy cheese, crackers and grapes Thursday Chicken and mushroom pie with creamed potatoes or crispy topped vegetarian cottage pie; Fruit jelly with fruit pieces Friday Vegetarian hot dogs and chips, beans and peas; Chocolate sponge with chocolate icing This menu is dependent on availability of ingredients and is subject to change. All cream, custard and cheese is non-dairy. Kiddush assembly Every Friday afternoon the whole school comes together for a mock Friday evening Kiddush - the meal in honour of Shabbat day, which starts on Friday night. Tomorrow it is Y5’s turn to help lay the table or sit and take part. All parents are warmly welcomed to join us for this assembly, Fridays at 1:30pm. Letters home: Bus trips (Nursery) Year of Celebrations (all classes) Albert Einstein was offered the Presidency of Israel in 1952; however, he declined the invitation. Assessment fortnight In most classes this week and next, the children are completing summer assessments. For Y1, Y3, Y4 and Y5, these are new tests, aligned to the new National Curriculum. Y2 and Y6 have already completed their national SATs tests. The Department for Education removed the National Curriculum Levels, with the introduction of the new curriculum, and so this year’s Y2 and Y6 will be the last to be given levels in their results. For all other classes, in the end of year reports they will be shown as either “emergent” (working towards the objectives for their year-group), “secure” (achieved the expected level), or “exceeding” (going beyond what is expected for that age). Reports will go out on Monday 20th July and parents will have an opportunity to discuss them with the class teacher at the Open Evening on Wednesday 22nd July, between 5:30pm to 7pm. Shabbat begins tomorrow evening at 9:16pm and ends at 10:53pm on Saturday evening. In Synagogue this Shabbat, the portion of the Torah being read is “Parashat Korach”, giving us our Theme of the Week “Avoiding quarrels.” Coming up… Friday 19th June, 1:30pm: Y5’s Kiddush Tuesday 30th June, 2pm: End-of-year concert Wednesday 1st July, 7pm: End-of-year concert
