Marking the 15th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the
U.S., this program tells the rarely told stories of the attack that took place at the
headquarters of the U.S. Department of Defense, in which 184 people died. As
most of the media coverage of the events of September 11 focused on New York
City and United Flight 93, details of the attack that took place at the Pentagon have
rarely been heard publicly, until now.

Investigate the psychology of a terrorist and examine how radical organizations
have grown to make use of modern propaganda and social media tools in order to
cultivate an army of self-radicalized killers.
MASTERPIECE “Churchill’s Secret”
Sunday, Sept. 11 at 7pm
Michael Gambon (Harry Potter, The Casual Vacancy) plays the greatest statesman of
the twentieth century in his most difficult hour: a debilitating stroke which he seeks
to hide from the world. The film opens in the summer of 1953 while hosting a state
dinner at 10 Downing Street. Churchill, age 78, is prime minister for the second
time and as pugnacious as ever.

It’s 1935 in Simla—an Indian retreat for British colonials set in the Himalayas. In this

STEPPIN’ OUT SPECIAL:
30 YEARS AND COUNTING!
Friday, September 2 at 7:30 p.m.
Viewers will enjoy a special look back at highlights
from the past 30 years on WYES’ weekly local arts
and entertainment program hosted and produced
by Peggy Scott Laborde.
Initially airing in March 1986 and running for almost two years
on WLAE-TV, the program moved, complete with set, over to
WYES in January 1988. During that time WLAE had ceased local
production and WYES general manager Mike
Labonia saw the need for this type of program in
the community.
For many years the late theatre critic Al Shea
covered the performing arts scene. He started his
long television career at WDSU and was considered
to be among America’s first television broadcast
entertainment critics. Debuting that first season
and still covering the visual arts scene for STEPPIN’ OUT is
Louisiana Life Magazine art columnist John Kemp.
In addition to the weekly overview of the arts and since the
program’s first season, Mardi Gras historians Errol Laborde
and Arthur Hardy have previewed the annual celebration with
STEPPIN’ OUT “It’s Carnival Time.”
Appearing on the program on a regular basis are food writer
Poppy Tooker and theatre critic Alan Smason. Among the
program’s occasional guests are WWNO’s book reviewer Susan
Larson and WWL movie reviewer Alfred Richard, who provides
updates on the movie and television production scenes.
Tom Gregory is reporter/director. Ashli Richard Morris is the
associate producer. Kelsi Schreiber is production associate.

Operating the Uptown New Orleans
theatre is 95-year-old Rene Brunet, Jr. and
his son Robert. Since 1914 the Prytania
has had a place in the history of local
moviegoing. During its life the Prytania
offered silent films and then talkies. The
movie house is immortalized in John
Kennedy Toole’s 1981 Pulitzer Prize
winning novel A Confederacy of Dunces
as one of the irascible Ignatius J. Reilly’s
favorite places.
Constructed by the partnership of
Jacobs and Landry, the theatre has had
numerous owners and suffered from two
fires. The Landmark Theatre Corporation
ran the Prytania for over 20 years as an art
film house, closing in 1996. The Brunets
reopened the theatre the next year.
In 2005, Hurricane Katrina wreaked
havoc on the city and the movie theatre but
thanks to the perseverance of the Brunets,
it remains open. The current owner of the
building is John Gish, who purchased the
structure in 2003. Gratefully the Brunets
have a 50-year lease. A recent renovation
includes state-of-the-art digital based
projection and audio.
This documentary presents the history
and challenges of operating a single screen
theatre. Among those interviewed are local
film theatre historian Jack Stewart and the
late Rose Kern, who worked in the local
movie theatre business for eight decades.
In addition to this documentary,
producer/director A.J. Roquevert
previously produced “No More Joy –The
Rise and Fall of New Orleans Theatres.”

of murder and “wrecking”— luring a cargo
ship to the rocks for plunder. It’s a capital
offense, the judge is unsympathetic, hostile
witnesses have been bribed and Ross
appears headed for the gallows.
