KLEINMOND Siyabulela Pre Primary NEWSLETTER 1/2016 Siyabulela had a very busy first term with lots of exciting and proud moments! During the December holidays we started with the upgrade of our playground. We could not start earlier with this process as big machinery had to enter the playgrounds and we were concerned about the safety of our children. Before After The grass was only planted during the second week of January and the children were only allowed to play in this area as from March 2016. A big thank you to Grand Resort Bad Ragaz and their Smiling Children initiative for the donation received for this upgrade! The children enjoy playing in this area, especially to roll on the grass! 028-271 4882 (T) • 028–271 4084(F) P.O. BOX 244 • KLEINMOND 7195 E-mail: [email protected] NPO 003-390 During the past year Siyabulela received donations to the value of R200 000.00 from Grand Resort Bad Ragaz! There loyal, continuous support is a great help to ensure the well being of our facility and to keep up the high standard of education that is done at Siyabulela! For Valentine’s Day the children were creative and made something to take home. They all went home as love bugs! Our annual Golf Day was held on Friday, 26 February 2016 at Kleinmond Golf Club, and again was a huge success! Although it was a rainy day, 50 players entered the field. After 18 rounds of golf, everyone were soaking wet. Siyabulela is very grateful that all the participants stayed for the auction and prize giving. We raised R53 000.00 compared to last year’s R45 000.00! We would like to thank all our sponsors and participants for making this possible! From left to right are Siyabulela’s Principal, Mrs A van Wyk, Evert Cilliers, Joe Roux, Stefanus Olivier and Corrie Gerber. Unfortunately Dr CarlHeinz Duisberg was absent when the photo was taken. Siyabulela would like to thank them for all their dedication and hard work to make our Golf day so successful! 2 After participating in Siyabuela’s 2015 Golf day, Mr and Mrs Anton van Kooten were very impressed with the immense energy and deployment of staff and volunteers of Siyabulela and the fact that they could see what is happening with funding at the school. The van Kooten’s took it upon them to invite guests to two special occasions in their lives. They asked their guests to bring cash to these events, instead of gifts, and the guests were informed that Mr & Mrs van Kooten will double the yield of money received on both occasions and that it will be donated to Siyabulela. With this generous gesture Siyabulela received R45 000.00! Siyabulela would like to thank Mr & Mrs van Kooten for this wonderful initiative! On Saturday, 5 March, we had our athletic day at the school! This is a day where parents, children and family members can come and participate and just have some fun at the school! The children had been practicing the whole term and enjoyed running in front of a crowd. The mums and dads also got a chance to run and there were even a few grandparents taking part. This was a very enjoyable morning for everyone involved. There were also a few teacher training sessions during this term. We did a Math Big group training and a Music workshop. The Grade R teachers are also busy with WCED Home Language training in Hermanus. These sessions help to improve the standard of teaching in the classrooms, as what they have learned must be implemented in the classrooms with immediate effect. 3 During this term a workshop was held with the parents on “How to help my child pass matric Maths now!” This session was presented by Eyona, the learning programme we follow at school, and were attended by more than 40 parents. The parents learned how they can do maths with their children without spending money. On behalf of the Management Committee, I would like to thank all our donors during this quarter! Without your loyal, continuous support Siyabulela will not be able to maintain the high standard of education, which children have the right to receive! Our wish list for 2016 consists of the following items: • • • • • 4 Sandpit toys and balls CD Players for the classrooms Hand towels Scrap paper 2nd hand items for our quarterly sales. Siyabulela’s Personnel and children would like to wish you a happy Easter with your family and friends! Kind personal regards. Alta van Wyk Principal 5
