This is an affecting study of
friendship & the problems of growing
old. Frank is a retired cat-burglar.

hypnotherapist to delve deep into Simon’s psyche.
Monday 16 September 8pm
IN THE HOUSE
(15) – 105 mins
A jaded school teacher becomes
obsessed with a talented
student’s weekly essays, based
on his classmate’s seemingly
ideal bourgeois home life. From

this delicious French film blurs
the boundaries between fact & fiction. Subtitled.

I’M SO EXCITED
(15) – 90 mins
Pedro Almodovar lets his hair
down and harks back to his
early films. Set on an airliner
endangered by a technical
fault, its occupants decide to
make the most of their possibly
limited remaining time. With a
generous helping of high camp,
sexual exploits and general debauchery, this is a real guilty pleasure for
fans of the Spanish maestro. Subtitled.

French comedy is a real crowd-pleaser with a colourful 1950s style.
Subtitled.

SUMMER IN FEBRUARY
(15) – 101 mins
Set against a backdrop of the beautiful
Cornish coast, this is a moving tale of love

BEFORE MIDNIGHT
(15) – 109 mins
Whether or not you have been following
Celine and Jesse’s previous romantic
encounters in Before Sunrise and Before
Sunset, you are sure to be captivated by this
acclaimed film. Rarely has a relationship
been portrayed as truthfully as by the excellent Julie Delphy and Ethan
Hawke.

THE ACT OF KILLING
(15) – 115 mins
A totally unique and tremendously
powerful documentary. Two former

squad, unpunished for their horrific
crimes, are challenged to make a series of films recreating their
past acts. What emerges is a bizarre and unforgettable experience.

BLANCANIEVES
(12A) – 102 mins
In 1920s Seville, the daughter of a bullfighter

crime thrillers, based on a Jens Lapidus
novel. Lower-class business student JW

deeper and deeper into a world of crime in order to maintain his lavish
lifestyle. Subtitled.
Monday 16 December 8pm
THE WORLD’S END
(15) – 109 mins
The third film, after Shaun of the Dead and
Hot Fuzz, to bring together Simon Pegg,
Nick Frost and director Edgar Wright. A
group of old friends get together to reattempt an epic pub crawl, but
end up fighting for their lives and for the future of mankind. Smart and
very funny, this is a thoroughly enjoyable romp.

fervour of their early days,
and brings a maturity born

THE DEMON
BARBERS
Winners of Best Live Act
(Radio 2 Folk Awards
2009), the Demon
Barbers have gained
major recognition for
their original, imaginative
approach to traditional
music & song. They take mainly traditional ballads, strange tales of
myth and magic, and coil them, twist them, make them stranger,
darker, becoming tales of Gothic danger; they don’t so much make
folk rock as make traditional tales quiver & pulse with electricity.
‘The Demon Barbers are one of the best live bands I’ve ever seen. If
you get a chance to see them - don’t miss it - they are brilliant’

and Rachel Cross (fiddle) playing original beautifully-arranged
acoustic folky jazz, including Brendan’s astonishing ‘Sauvignonblanc-o-phone’, an instrument made entirely of wine glasses!

promote and manage the events. As much a social occasion
as a performance, a good night out is had by all!
Forthcoming shows in our Autumn season include music
from John Kirkpatrick, Trio Gitan and Namvula and theatre
adaptations of Great Expectations, The Lost World and a new
spectacular piece called Six Impossible Things.

Informatio
n
THE KIRKGATE CENTRE is
managed & run by Kirkgate Arts,
a limited company with charitable
status, set up in 2008 to improve
access to the arts in West Cumbria.
The Kirkgate Centre was originally
converted from a derelict Victorian
school building in 1995, through the
efforts of local people. The centre is
run almost entirely by volunteers and
is supported by 300 members.
SUPPORT THE KIRKGATE AND SAVE MONEY!
For only £10 (single), £18 (joint) or £22 (family) per year,
you can become a member, entitled to discount off all events
marked with D in the programme,
or donate an extra £10 & become a Benefactor.
Application forms are available at the Centre.
JOIN OUR TEAM OF VOLUNTEERS!
We are always looking for people to join our friendly team.
At present we are looking in particular for Front of House for
Monday film nights and Duty Managers.
Full training will be provided for all volunteers.
If you are interested in volunteering in these roles, or any
other at the Centre, contact Kate Parry on 01900 829966
([email protected]).
HIRE THE KIRKGATE!
Our multi-purpose hall and auditorium can be booked separately,
or in combination for that special occasion, conference, meeting
or class at competitive rates. The Kirkgate has wi-fi available
throughout the building & we can provide you with details of local
catering companies if required.
Call 01900 829966 or email [email protected] for more
details and information.
STAY IN TOUCH!
Keep up to date with what is happening at The Kirkgate.
Either give us a call on 01900 829966 or drop us a line at
[email protected] and we will add you to our mailing
list. Don’t forget to check the website for updates too!
