loves to make a
scene. The Parisian-born artist,
who resides in Los
Feliz, launched
her high-end wall
coverings six years ago by hand-painting designs and digitally reproducing
them on paper. Soubiran’s Princes &
Crows line is informed by her French
roots and just about anything bearing the patina of age. “I love tweaking
old things and redrawing them,” says
Soubiran, who has vivid memories
of a Zuber panoramic wallpaper that
lined her grandfather’s library. “In
my work I revisit the past and think
about how I can bring it back to life.”
Her latest collections include 1910,
with patterns based on her trove of
antique lace and embroidery, while
29 Palms is a throwback to early artists’ depictions of distant shores. She’s
also got a modern, ironic side. “L.A.
Toile” appears to be a traditional
toile de Jouy print, but a closer look
reveals pastoral figures toting cell
phones, boom boxes, and AK-47s. For
children’s rooms her storybook style
features characters from the forest,
sea, and circus. Soubiran offers two
custom options: interpretations of
Tiepolo’s pen-and-ink drawings of
elephants and acrobats, which can be
layered onto existing designs. 213-2715609 or princesandcrows.com.

CRAZY FOR
Pac-Man?
Moved by Keith Haring’s Dancers? Blik, an
L.A. company founded
by Jerinne Neils and
Scott Flora, brings
cultural iconography
into the home. Blik’s
vinyl decals come in
a multitude of sizes,
from three-inch dots
to custom murals that
wrap entire walls, and
can be transferred onto
any clean, flat surface.
When it’s time for a
change, they peel off
with ease. The shop offers a range of themes,
from animals and
sports to nature and
music. L.A. artists and
architects were also
tapped to design less
traditional press-on
motifs: Patrick Hruby’s
fanciful castles and pirate ships, Mina Javid’s
modernist lamps and
headboards, and Ilan
Dei’s swimming koi and
vining wisteria. 866262-2545 or whatisblik
