Welcome to the 2012 Optus Golf Challenge.
Welcome to the 2012 Optus Golf Challenge.
The Optus Golf Challenge has been running successfully for 20 years
and this year will be no exception for our 21st year, which will see
Brett Ogle return as our Master of Ceremonies for the Event.
The ongoing success of this event is due to the unique networking
opportunity it provides with Optus’ senior management, our strategic
partners and customers in a relaxed and friendly environment. As the
hosts of the event we are proud to be associated with this annual
Optus Golf Challenge.
Of course it goes without saying that it is the people who make
an event memorable and we are fortunate to have the support of
individuals such as yourself.
Each year we look forward to welcoming back the guests who have
attended in previous years. If this is your first Optus Golf Challenge
then we look forward to meeting you on the fairway and encourage you to enter a team.
This year we’re heading to the beautiful Gold Coast to stay at the picturesque Hyatt Regency, Sanctuary Cove and we have
been able to secure the exclusively private Pines Golf Course for one of the rounds which was designed by Arnold Palmer
and is considered the Number 1 Golf Course in QLD. We will also be playing Royal Pines, which is the home of the Australian
Ladies Masters each year. You will find more information on these venues in your introduction pack.
A key part of this event is the support given to our Optus charity partners. $1,000 from every team
entry will be donated to the Kids Helpline.
Kids Helpline is Australia’s only free, confidential and anonymous national counselling service for
young people. It offers telephone, email and real-time online counselling.
As a charity partner, Optus
contributes funds from workplace giving along with technology and staff expertise to create new
methods of support.
Optus recognises that Kids Helpline provide invaluable assistance to Australians in need. By participating in the 2012 Optus
Golf Challenge, you will be helping to improve the day-to-day lives of young people in significant and meaningful ways.
We hope you will join us for the 2012 Optus Golf Challenge. Good Luck!
Yours sincerely

The Courses
The courses for this year are the best the Gold Coast has to offer and The Pines at Sanctuary Cove is the most exclusive
private golf course in Queensland.
The Pines, Sanctuary Cove
The Pines Golf Course is the only Arnold Palmer
Signature golf course in Australia and is rated by the
Australian Golf Union as one of the nation’s most
challenging courses. In the words of Sanctuary Cove’s
touring professional, Adam Scott, “When I think of great
golf in Australia, I think of The Pines at Sanctuary Cove,
a true test of the game”.
With an AGU rating of 76 the course offers a very
special golfing experience. Fourteen of the 18 holes
are contoured around six man-made lakes and the
Clubhouse is rated as one of the best in Australia.
Royal Pines Resort
The Home of the Australian Ladies Masters Golf Tournament
each year, Royal Pines Resort offers golfers a superb 27 Hole
Championship Golf Course.
With a 27-hole state-of-the-art driving range, Royal Pines
Resort offers the best in world-class golfing for both the
amateur and serious golfer. The course is one of the top 60
public courses in Australia and was listed by Hacker Golf
Magazine (Australia) in its ‘Top 100 Golf Courses in Australia’.
The Eastern 18 holes was originally designed by Tomojiro
Maruyama, a Japanese golf course architect with the new
9 hole course on the western side of the Resort designed by
Graham Marsh opened in 2004.
FORMAT
The format for the 2012 Optus Golf Challenge will be a
Skins Tournament for Round 1 and a 4BBB Stableford for
Round 2. We will also be running a 36 Hole individual
Stableford Competition for AGrade, BGrade and CGrade.
In Round 1 the Format is a Team Stableford with the Best
three scores counting on each hole to give the team a
total. On all 18 Holes there are four major prizes which
represents a Skin and the field of 36 teams compete
against each other on each hole for the Skins. For
example if two teams have 9 points on Hole 1, the Hole is
halved and the Skin Jackpots to Hole 2. On Hole 2 all 36
teams compete again for the Skins and if one team wins
with 10 points they then receive the Skins from Hole 1
and Hole 2 and the process starts again at Hole 3.
In Round 2 the Format will be a 4BBB Stableford with the
best Stableford score counting on each Hole. The team
with the highest stableford score after 18 holes will be
deemed the winner.
There will also be 36 Hole Single Stableford
Competition
in conjunction for AGrade, BGrade and
CGrade with the winners of their respective Grades
winning the major trophies. Round 1 will be a 8.30am
Shotgun Start at the Pines Golf Course at Sanctuary Cove
and Round 2 will be a 8.30am Shotgun Start at Royal
Pines Golf Course.
HANDICAPS
If you don’t have an official AGU handicap your handicap
will be 18 for men and 27 for women.
It is important we collect the handicaps before the event
and that they are accurate, therefore we ask that you
