IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Since I started my career at the
YMCA 30 years ago, there’s nothing
I’ve known to be more life-shaping
than summer camp. Camping, like
many Y programs, is about learning
new skills, developing character
and making friends. In addition
to traditional and specialty camp
activities, we are uniquely devoted to
physical activity and STEAM (Science,
Technology, Engineering, the Arts
and Mathematics) education in each
and every one of our programs. Few
environments will foster your child’s
mind, body and spirit than at the Y.

FREQUENTLY ASKED
QUESTIONS ABOUT
SUMMER CAMP
I completed my camp registration
online. Is my registration complete?
No. Please complete the registration forms
located on our website. Your registration is
not complete until these forms are completed,
filled in and returned to the Y. You can email
them to [email protected], fax them
to 703.525.2148, or mail them to the following
address:
YMCA Arlington
Attn: Camp Forms
3422 N. 13th Street
Arlington, VA 22201
What time do I pick-up and drop-off
my camper if they do not participate in
Extended Hours?
Please drop your camper off between
8:45–9:00am and pick them up between 4:00–
4:15pm. Travel and Outdoor campers should
not be picked up until between 4:30-4:45pm.
What is the schedule for before and
after care?
Campers will be split up and provided different
low key, age appropriate activities. Part of the
time in after care is spent on activities that
combat summer learning loss.
What information will I get before
camp?
In addition to the parent handbook, a precamp email is our courtesy communication
tool to inform you of the week’s schedule of
activities as well as answer any questions you
may have. If you sign up for a camp ThursdaySunday the week before camp, you will not get
a pre-camp e-mail. If you do not receive a precamp email, please confirm your email address
with the Member Services desk.
How can I get a camp schedule?
Camp schedules are available at the sign in/
sign out desk, from camp staff and at the
Member Services desk, two (2) weeks prior
to the beginning of camp, The camp schedule
provides you with information on what your
child will be doing during his/her time at camp.
Please note that these schedules are subject
to change. We do our best to provide you with
information early so you can plan ahead, but
summer camp is full of surprises, and we are
often forced to make changes. This schedule
also gives you information on what to bring.
What should my camper bring to
camp?
All campers must bring a healthy, peanut-free
lunch, plenty to drink and two snacks to camp
daily. Please send only non-perishable foods
because refrigeration is not possible. Campers
should also bring their own water bottle to
stay hydrated during the day. Send your child
to camp with a backpack to keep all of the
belongings together. Swimsuit and towel. A hat
for sun protection.
What to bring for travel camp?
Please label all items with name and phone
number. Campers must bring a healthy, nutfree lunch, 2 snacks and plenty to drink each
day. Campers should not need, nor should
bring large sums of money. Trips are subject to
change, so campers should bring a backpack
with swimsuit, towel and sunscreen each day,
regardless of the schedule. All campers should
wear comfortable and appropriate attire, such
as T-shirts, shorts and tennis shoes. Please do
not wear sandals or flip flops.
staff, wearing black or khaki shorts or pants
and CIT shirt each day. While swimming, girl
CITs should wear a modest one piece suit and
boys should wear shorts-style suits. Sneakers
should be worn daily.
When will my camper swim?
All Aquatics and Traditional campers will swim
daily. Campers participating in Specialty and
Sports Camps will swim twice per week on an
alternating schedule. Some campers will swim
on Mondays, so please bring your swim suit
daily. This does not include the Gymnastics
Academy Camp that will not be swimming
during their camp day.
Should I pack water for my child?
Should my campers bring money to
camp?
What should my campers wear to
camp?
What if my camper loses something at
camp?
Is there a dress code for CITs?
What happens if my child is late for
Travel/Outdoor Camp?
Yes. Though we fill coolers for the kids and
our staff make regular trips to the restrooms
and drinking fountains, parents are ultimately
responsible for sending their child with plenty
of fluids for the day.
Children should wear clothing suitable for an
active day at camp. Appropriate items would
include shorts, t-shirts, light jackets (for chilly
mornings), and athletic shoes (no sandals).
Please label all items sent to camp with the
child’s first and last name. Our camps use
discovery and play as a major part of our camp
program, thus we encourage you to dress your
child in clothing that you do not mind getting
dirty or stained with art materials in the course
of your child engaging in a fun activity.
Counselors-in-Training, Leaders-in-Training,
and Jr. Lifeguards should dress just like the

No. Camp fees include all day trip admission
fees. The only exception is on extended
trips where campers may want to purchase
souvenirs, designated Pizza Fridays, or special
camp carnivals.
We know that sometimes things just get lost.
Please label all of your child’s belongings. The
best way to prevent the loss of property is to
leave it at home! There will be a designated
Lost and Found at each camp location. Please
check for your child’s items. Lost and found
items are kept at the YMCA for two full weeks
and then donated to charity. The YMCA is not
responsible for camper possessions that are
lost or stolen.
Unfortunately, we cannot hold the bus for a
camper who is running late. We will accept
them into a camp at the branch or offsite
location that piques their interest. You may
also drop off you camper at their field trip
destination.
What happens when my child needs to
be picked up early?
No problem! Please contact the Y prior to pick
up to ensure that your child is ready.
I am running late. What should I do?
Please contact the Y as soon as you know you
or your authorized pick-up person will be late.
We do charge $1 per minute you are late after
the designated pick-up time.

LEADERS-IN-TRAINING
The Leaders-in-Training program provides middle and high school youth with
opportunities for leadership training and service learning experiences with the
goal to create a team of young people that will better service their community
and the Y as they encourage one another to make a positive impact for present
and future generations. Junior Leaders begin to learn practical leadership
skills, participate in teambuilding activities and spend time working hands-on
with a group of traditional campers. Combined with traditional camp activities,
field trips and more, Leaders-in-Training transition seamlessly from camp to
Counselors-in-Training!
COUNSELORS-IN-TRAINING
Counselors-in-Training is a teen program specifically designed for our
future leaders. This two-phase program first sends your teen through a
week of training in First Aid, CPR, working with 5-12 year olds, camp songs,
games and crafts. After successfully completing training and achieving C.I.T.
status, participants will be assigned to assist our talented day camp staff
with the daily operation of the traditional camps. This program provides an
excellent opportunity for these teens to learn hands-on job experience and
responsibilities, while still under the supervision of our camp staff team.
JUNIOR LIFEGUARD
Are you someone who enjoys helping others? Our Jr. Lifeguard Camp combines
the Leaders-in-Training Program with a hands-on experience for campers
to learn First Aid and CPR, water rescue techniques and other topics related
to lifeguarding from trained and certified staff. Not only does this valuable
experience build self-confidence and skills for life, it focuses on the skills
and training those participants will need to be successful YMCA Lifeguard
candidates once they reach an age to be certified. Please note: This is NOT a
certification course.

AQUATIC CAMPS
YOUTH SPORTS
Aquatic camps are designed for beginner
through intermediate levels. All campers will
receive YMCA swim lessons and depending
on the swim level, activities may include
stroke development, basic lifeguard skills,
water sports, and traditional camp activities.
Youth sports programs at YMCA Arlington offer a
variety of opportunities for your child. Whether your
superstar is interested in t-ball/baseball, basketball,
flag football, running, hockey, lacrosse, soccer
(or many more), our classes focus on teamwork,
sportsmanship and basic fundamentals. All skill
levels welcome! Classes cover stretching and warmups, common aspects of the game like throwing and
catching, practice drills and fun-filled games.
BIRTHDAY PARTY
SPORTS LEAGUES
Birthday parties at the Y are a great way for
your toddlers, children and teens to celebrate
their special day and create lasting memories
with their family and friends. We provide a
dynamic and engaging day with a variety of
activities and we handle all the elements of
the party.
From youth soccer and basketball to adult kickball,
basketball and soccer, YMCA Arlington is your
place to get in the game. Youth soccer leagues run
every spring and fall with our basketball league
filling the winter void. All of our leagues focus on
good sportsmanship, teamwork and development.
Join us for a fun-filled season where you can
advance your skill, spend time with new and old
friends and live an active lifestyle.
SCHOOL AGE CHILD CARE
GYMNASTICS
School age child care programs offer themebased activities and lessons which may include
arts & crafts, movement activities, science,
outside time, field trips, swimming and more.
Participants 5 years old through 5th grade will
enjoy a fun, relaxed atmosphere where we focus
on development, safety and fun.
Gymnastics programs at YMCA Arlington range
from classes to competitive team. Learn and refine
basic skills, improve your balance and coordination
while gaining self-esteem. Practice your pull-over
bars, side handstand, beam routines, cartwheels
and more. Classes are offered for one year olds
through 5th grade while teams allow gymnasts to
continue to develop skills.
