LEANLINESS is a joint
responsibility of all stakeholders in the community,
including businesses and residents.
That was the message sent
out by Subang Jaya Municipal
Council (MPSJ) Health
Department director Dr Roslan
Mohamed Hussin.
Dr Roslan were speaking at a
rat eradication programme
organised by the MPSJ in
collaboration with the
Zone 14 JKP (residents committee) at Taman Puchong
Prima and Taman Puchong
Permai.
Dr Roslan said the commercial areas in SS15 and SS14 in
Subang Jaya and Jalan Kenari in
Puchong were infested with
rats due to poor hygiene practices at food premises.
"Poor garbage disposal methods, not having grease traps
installed and a lackadaisical attitude on hygiene are among the
factors that lead to this problem." he said.
The programme, the fourth of
its kind organised by the MPSJ
this year, netted a total of 109
rats.
Poisonous bait was placed the
night before to lure the rats.
MPSJ officers and residents collected and disposed of the rat
carcasses the next day.
"The council received 53 complaints last year on the rat problem," said Dr Roslan.

Puchong MP Gobind Deo who
also attended the progamme
said that people have to take it
upon themselves to ensure the
cleanliness of their own premises.
He said people should also
report to the authorities if they
spotted a dirty restaurant or had
a rat problem in their neighbourhood.
Dr Roslan said Subang Jaya
assemblyman Hannah Yeoh
had given RM8,000 from
her state constituency allocation to address the rat problem.
Zone 14 JKP treasurer Juflen
Dharma said the committee
encouraged the various residents' associations to organise regular clean-up campaigns in their neighbourhoods.
"The residents are generally
cooperative, but more can be
done to create greater awareness and improve society's
attitude when it comes to
cleanliness," he said.

RESIDENTS in Pusat Bandar Puchong
and Bandar Puteri Puchong will be
the first group in Selangor to use
walkie-talkies to keep their neighbourhood safe.
Seri Serdang assemblyman Datuk
Mohamad Satim Diman said the idea
to use walkie-talkies came from the
residents themselves and he presented a walkie-talkie unit each to
30 residents associations (RA) in a
ceremony at the Taman Wawasan 4
park recently.
Also present at the event were
Puchong parliamentary liaison officer Datuk Loo Yeng Peng and Serdang
OCPD Supt Abdul Razak Elias.
The communication channels
will be connected to my service centre and there will someone monitoring it. We will also be giving a unit
each to the Puchong Jaya and Bandar
Puteri Puchong police stations," he
said.
The person in charge of the walkietalkie from each residents' association will be sent for training with the
SI(MM (Malaysian Communication
and Multimedia Commission) and
would have to provide their details
for registration.
Razak said having residents use
walkie-talkies to communicate with
each other and disseminate information was in line with the 3C concept of creativity, communication
and collaboration.
This is going beyond the traditional means of fighting crime. They
will be using technology to help
each other and to collaborate with
the police. When something happens and we are able to get informa-

Satim also presented a mail box to
each residents association so
that those patrolling their neighbourhoods can put their log book
into it.
"Residents can also fill in the log
book and this would serve as a networking tool among neighbours,"
Satim said.
Puteri 6 Ixora RA chairman
William Koh, 43, said the walkietalkies would be helpful for the
associations, who had already been
working together.
We have regular inter-RA meetings and also have joint events during festivals to keep everyone updated. Currently, we use mobile phones
when something happens and with
the walkie-talkies, we can pass on

the information simultaneously to
all RAs faster," he said.
Loo, who is also the special officer
to the Home Minister, said it was
encouraging to see residents working together for their own safety.
"The crime rate has gone down in
Bandar Puteri. It used to be one of
the 50 hot spots in 2010 but has
recently been taken out of the list,"
said Loo.

CUEPACS mints kekalkan
tunggakan SBPA 1 Januari
PUTRAJAYA - Kongres Kesatuan Pekerja-Pekerja di Dalam Perkhidmatan
Awam (CUEPACS) mahu tarikh kuat
kuasa Skim Baru Perkhidmatan Awam
kuasa SBPA bermula 1 Januari
tetapi pelaksanaan sahaja ditangguhkan
berikutan semakan semula beberapa
perkara dalam skim baru itu.
"Jadi permintaan CUEPACS adalah
supaya tarikh kuat kuasa SBPA pada 1
Januari itu dikekalkan. Itu yang kita
mahu.
"Ia berdasar perbincangan sewaktu
saya bertemu dengan Perdana
Menteri (Datuk Seri Najib Tun
Razak) tempoh hari. Jadi kekalkan tarikh kuat kuasa itu,
tangguh pelaksanaan, semak
semula dan sehingga dapat penyelesaian dalam tempoh tiga
bulan," katanya kepada pemberita di sini semalam.
Beliau yakin lima tuntutan
CUEPACS dapat diterima selepas pembentangan kertas cadangannya kepada
pasukan petugas khas semakan semula
SBPA pada mesyuarat ketiganya yang

dalam Skim Saraan Malaysia (SSM),
mengkaji semula tangga gaji maksimum,
menyenaraikan penjawat yang layak
memperoleh kenaikan gaji tujuh hingga
13 peratus dan menyemak semula penstrukturan kenaikan gaji bagi semua
gred.
Omar berkata, satu perhimpunan besar membabitkan penjawat awam dari
semua gred akan diadakan pada akhir
bulan depart bagi memberi penerangan
secara terperinci mengenai intipati
SBPA.
