EXCLUSIVE: France’s Atlantique Productions is set to
premiere footage from the second season of
Transporter – The Series here in Cannes tomorrow,
with showrunner Frank Spotnitz on hand. Based on
Luc Besson’s Transporter film franchise, the series
stars Chris Vance as professional transporter Frank
Martin, who can always be counted on to get the job
done — discreetly. Joining Vance is Italian actress
Violante Placido who will play Caterina Boldieu, a
former French intelligence officer who first met Frank
when he rescued her from captivity in North Africa.
Two years on, the brilliant strategist has come to work for him.
Placido, repped by APA and The Lasher Group, broke out at
home in L’Anima Gemella in 2002 and was nominated for a
David di Donatello Best Actress award for Gianni Veronesi’s
2004 Che Ne Sarà Di Noi? Her feature Hollywood credits
include Anton Corbijn’s George Clooney-­starrer The American
and 2011′s Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance. Most recently,
she starred in French crime drama Le Guetteur, directed by her
father Michel Placido and starring Daniel Auteuil and Mathieu
Kassovitz. TNT acquired both seasons of Transporter earlier this year and will air it in fall
2014. The show’s first season is already airing in 185 countries. It’s produced by
Atlantique’s Olivier Bibas and QVF’s Susan Murdoch in association with The Movie Network
and Movie Central in Canada and M6 in France.

US producer and writer Frank Spotnitz hits Croisette with multiple announcements. YouTube
head of Entertainment Alex Carloss examines platform’s pulling power.
Old and New Media were out in force at MIPTV on Tuesday (8) as veteran producers and writers
unveiled projects and new media heavyweights YouTube and Twitter discussed the pulling power of
their platforms for traditional content creators as well as newcomers.
A round-­up of the day 2 events:

US writer and producer Frank Spotnitz joined Olivier Bibas, producer and managing director of Paris-­
based Atlantique Productions, for a breakfast preview of the second series of Transporter adapted
from Luc Besson’s popular film franchise.
UK actor Chris Vance returns as the no-­nonsense extreme courier Frank Martin opposite Italian actress
and singer Violante Placido in a new character role as his right-­hand woman.
“We want to keep the identity of the original but also deepen Frank’s world,” said Spotnitz, noting each
episode would comprise a complete story taking the character “from A to B.”
Spotnitz, whose writing and producing credits include Hunted and The X-­Files, added, “Chris is
completely committed to the role, which is hard work physically. He is present on all the stunts.”
The slick, high-­octane teaser showed the Moroccan leg of the shoot. The production now heads to
Prague for five weeks and then Canada. “It’s tough moving around so much… but we’ve set up the
schedule to follow the good weather,” he said.
Bibas, who is also currently producing the third and last season of Borgia for French broadcaster
Canal+, said he expected to make a third series of the TV franchise with Sponitz.
“I won’t do Transporter 3 without him,” he said.
Later on in the day, Spotnitz would announce a first look deal with Munich-­based television powerhouse
Tandem.

Atlantique Productions, a subsidiary of Lagardere Entertainment, is producing the show for Canadian
QVF for M6 in France and The Movie Network and Movie Central in Canada.
The show is scheduled for an late 2014 premiere. The first series sold to 185 territories and
Emmanuelle Bouilhaguet, managing director of Lagadere Entertainment Rights, expects series two to
be equally popular.
It has already pre-­sold to Italy (Mediaset), Latin America (HBO Ole), Norway (TV2), Turkey (ATV),
Portugal (Lusomundo) and Fox. Bouilhaguet said she expected to tie up outstanding European
territories the UK, Finland and Sweden shortly.
CONFERENCES
YouTube’s audience pulling power
YouTube global head of entertainment Alex Carloss examined how the platform was generating
audiences and engagement for mainstream content creators as well as new arrivals.
As an example, Carloss showed how America’s beleaguered late night TV shows had been revitalised
by tapping into YouTube, with younger hosts like Jimmy Fallon garnering millions of hits with tailor-­made
clips that work alone on tablets and smart phones as well as dedicated YouTube channels.
“In mid-­February Jimmy Fallon took over from Jay Leno as the new host of the Tonight Show, 10m
people tuned in to watch his first appearance, but the views on YouTube were double that, 20m,” said
Carloss. “In fact in the first two weeks of his show, his channel generated 90m views, at times averaging
10m views a day.”
Former late night host Conan O’Brian had just celebrated 500m views on his YouTube channel
featuring 3,000 uploaded clips while comedian and late night host Jimmy Kimmel regularly generated
hundreds of millions of hits with his uploaded pranks and spoofs, added Carloss.
Another example of where a mainstream player had tapped into YouTube could be seen in Disney’s
decision to allow Frozen fans to upload their personal versions of Let it Go from the soundtrack,
including UK-­based Alex Boyé’s tribal version, which has been viewed more 31m times since it was
released on February 13.
“The studio could easily have issued copyright claims against the video and the many others like it and
asked for them to be taken down, but they made a choice, a fan-­friendly choice, to let users share and
create new ones… allow fans to pay tribute and you’ll see the incredible benefits of their passion” said
Carloss.
Twitter and TV
Twitter chief media scientist Deb Roy argued that the social network and television were becoming
increasingly intertwined as viewer tweets and hashtags become an integral part of the viewing
experience.
“Twitter makes television better: it is in fact a force multiplier that can enhance the impact and
possibilities of television,” said Roy. Using the UK’s X Factor as an example, Roy looked at how tweets
built up before, during and after a show. One X Factor show prompted 21.8m tweets from 1.2m unique
users, mainly during its broadcast as voting got underway.
The 2014 Oscars, meanwhile, generated 19m tweets from five million users sent to 37m people. In the
48-­hour period surrounding the ceremony the number of tweets topped three billion. In terms of driving
viewers to television, Roy said there was growing data evidence suggesting a correlation between
related tweet numbers and viewer figures. However he said more precise studies had yet to be done.

Transporter a déjà été vendue dans 185 pays à travers le monde . En janvier dernier, le
network américain TNT annonçait poser une option sur la seconde saison, après avoir
acheté les droits de la première. La chaîne semble avoir été convaincue par les premières
images puisqu’elle a confirmé son option, et commandé une seconde saison non pas de
douze épisodes, mais de 24, pour une programmation à l’automne.
Le budget de la série a quant à lui été revu à la baisse avec deux à trois millions de dollars
par épisode. M6 continuera de coproduire Transporter, tandis que la chaîne privée
allemande RTL a préféré se retirer du projet, suite aux mauvaises audiences de la série sur
ses antennes.

penned a first-­look deal with Germany’s Tandem
Communications.

This will see Tandem getting first-­look distribution rights to program m ing from
Spotnitz’s London-­based indie Big Light Productions.
“Frank has set a v ery high benchm ark for quality TV program m ing since he

Bauer.
Spotnitz founded Big Light in 2 01 3 to produce globally -­focused dram as.

Big Light launch am bitious and high-­quality dram a series.”
Transporter: The Series, from Atlantique Productions and QVF, is being heav ily

‘Transporter’ ya graba su segunda temporada

La versión televisiva de ‘Transporter’ ha presentado en MIPTV 2014 su segunda temporada, que cuenta
con Frank Spotnitz (‘Expediente X’, ‘Hunted’, ‘Millenium’) como showrunner. Adquirida por Atresmedia
en España y aún sin emitir, la serie se podrá ver en Estados Unidos el próximo otoño a través de TNT, y también
ha sido vendida por Lagardère Entertainment a Italia, Latinoamérica, Noruega, Turquía y Portugal, entre otros.
Chris Vance se vuelve a poner en la piel del “mensajero”
Frank Martin, y además ha entrado como productor
ejecutivo de la serie. Vance se implica al cien por cien en
‘Transporter’, que requiere una gran preparación física para
las numerosas escenas de acción. El actor, que participó
en ‘Prison Break’, no utiliza dobles y viajará con todo el
equipo aPraga y Toronto para la grabación de varios
episodios de la segunda temporada, junto a Casablanca,
Marruecos, donde desde el pasado mes de febrero están
trabajando. “Vamos siguiendo el buen tiempo y un look
europeo”, comentó Spotnitz durante el encuentro con la
prensa en MIPTV 2014. El showrunner también se declaró
fan de las historias de espías a lo James Bond y muy
cómodo con episodios autónomos en sus trama. “Estamos profundizando en los personajes de la película,
mantenemos el humor y además buscamos historias que sean muy visuales y divertidas”, aseguró el
showrunner.
Junto a Vance, en la segunda temporada se verá a la actriz italiana Violante Placido, cuyo personaje será
una agente de la inteligencia francesa que conocerá a Martin cuando la rescata de un secuestro en el Norte de
África.
‘Transporter’ es una producción de Atlantique Productions, liderada por Olivier Bibas. Esta compañía es
subsidiaria de Lagardère Entertainment y ha realizado series como ‘Borgia’, ‘Jo’ y ‘Muerte en el paraíso’,
todas ellas en inglés y emitidas en España en la televisión de pago. Bibas adelantó que tienen cuatro proyectos
en desarrollo y espera poder anunciar en breve la puesta en marcha de al menos uno de ellos. Sobre ‘Transporter’
no quiso desvelar el presupuesto concreto, pero aseguró que “generoso”.
Sobre el retraso en la emisión de la serie en España, el equipo de Lagardère Entertainment comentó que Antena
3 se ha centrado más últimamente en la producción propia. Aunque no hay fecha de estreno ni canal definitivo,
dado que encajaría perfectamente en La Sexta, puede que el verano sea la época elegida para emitir
‘Transporter’.

LE Rights : TNT.TV2.ATV et Lusomundo acquièrent la saison2 du Transporteur
Après une première saison vendue à « 185 pays », Le
transporteur, série produite par Atlantique Productions
(Lagardère Entertainment)et QVF Inc. (Canada), intensifie
la distribution du deuxième opus, entré en tournage fin
février, a annoncé LE Rights, à l'occasion du MipTV. La
filiale de distribution de Lagardère Entertainment l'a ainsi
vendue à la chaîne américaine TNT, à TV2 en Norvège,
ATV en Turquie et Lusomundo au Portugal, qui avaient
déjà toutes acheté la saison 1. Tout comme le groupe
italien Mediaset et le diffuseur latino-américain HBO Ole,
également impliqués depuis le début.
Letransporteur, adaptée de la franchise de Luc Besson,
est produite pour M6 en France, et The Movie Network
(Astral Media) et Movie Central (Corus Entertainment). M
