There is no place like Y Day Camp – A home away from home where kids laugh, learn, explore and grow in the
outdoors, while creating memories and friendships that last a lifetime. Kids discover not just the wonders of day
camp but the joy of exploring their unique traits, talents and interests and the power of sharing their strengths
and skills to benefit the group. That’s why more than 1,800 kids in the Oklahoma City area attend the Y’s
summer day camps; to belong, achieve and build relationships.
ABOUT US
OUR CAUSE
At the Y, strengthening community is our cause. Every day, we work side-by-side with our neighbors to
make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow
and thrive.
OUR MISSION
To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
OUR FOCUS
We believe that to bring about meaningful change in individuals and communities, we must be
focused and accountable. That’s why we focus our work in three key areas that are fundamental to
strengthening community: youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
Our financial assistance program ensures that everyone can participate in Y programs, despite their
inability to pay. Financial assistance is provided through our Annual Campaign.
OUR STAFF
At Y Day Camp, caring and professional role models are committed to helping kids build confidence and
character. The loyalty, dedication and professionalism of our highly trained staff is extraordinary. We count
on our staff to meet strict Y qualifications and pass an Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation background
check. All Y Day Camp staff are 18 years or older and have been trained or certified in the following:
•
•
•
•
CPR-Pro
AED
First Aid
Oxygen Administration
• Bloodborne Pathogens
• Prevention/Recognition
of Child Abuse
• Camp Safety
• Child Development
• Curriculum Planning
• Licensing Regulations
OUR SAFETY
Parents look to the Y for a safe and secure environment where children can learn practical social skills
and develop positive values. Our reputation for consistency and safety, as well as our focus on youth
development, gives parents the confidence they need to trust us with their children.
To ensure the well-being of each child, we review our health and safety policies on an ongoing basis.
Our low staff-to-child ratio also allows our staff to give each camper the attention and guidance
necessary to create a positive and safe environment.

or request a printed copy at your local Y. Below is a quick overview of several highlighted policies.
Parent Orientation
Meet staff, pick up your field trip shirts and learn about the program for 2016. A list of parent
orientations can be found on your branch specific flyer or visit ymcaokc.org/daycamp for a list of
dates, times and locations.
Recreational Swim Time
All children will have the opportunity to swim. Each pool is staffed by either Y lifeguards and/or
City Parks and Recreational lifeguards. All children will be given a swim test prior to open swim. Any
child that does not pass the swim test will be required to wear an approved flotation device. Further
swimming policies can be found in the parent handbook.
Sign In and Out
Children are required to be signed in and out of Day Camp on a daily basis by an authorized individual
listed on their form. All children must arrive to Day Camp no later than 9:00am. State issued
photo identification is required to release a child. A $1 per minute late fee will be assessed for
children picked up after 6:00pm. Additional sign in and out policies are found in the parent handbook.
Absent Policy
Please call the Y by 9:00am on the days your child will be absent from camp. It is important for us to
know where your child is on days they are enrolled in the program. No refunds will be given due to
non-attendance. Additional information can be found in the parent handbook.
Illness/ Injury
The health and safety of your child is a priority! Our staff are trained in emergency first aid and CPR.
If an illness or injury happens during the camp day, we will provide first aid as needed. Parents will be
notified of minor injuries at the time of pick up. For more serious injuries we will make every attempt
to contact the parent or guardian using all numbers provided on the enrollment form. A child may
be required to be picked up from camp. If an injury warrants, we will call emergency personnel and
have the child taken to the nearest hospital. Please view the parent handbook for more details about
illness, injury or medications.
Behavior, Conduct and Discipline
We expect all Day Camp participants to behave according to our guidelines. Please read over
character development and guidelines in the parent handbook.

WHAT PARENTS SAY
1
QUOTES
“Staff were fun, encouraging, and respectful and they embraced my child. They make it feel like we are all family and friends
and not a business. It really was the best summer ever!”
“I think this camp was a wonderful experience. We felt safe knowing the boys were having fun and learning throughout the
summer and not just be stuck at home on their electronics not exercising or playing since my husband and I both work.”
“My daughter had so much fun! She even sang at the talent show! It was her first time doing anything like that!”
“My kids loved camp! The staff were always pleasant and talked to us when we picked them up. We look forward to hopefully
seeing the staff who return and will miss those that are not. They helped make our summer great!!”
“My kids LOVED the summer camp. So much in fact they wanted to skip a trip to Disney World because they would have rather
been at the Y. Good job!”
“I think the counselors were fantastic. Almost every day I heard a positive story about one of them, my kids were comfortable
and happy being at camp and came home worn out but happy. They did fun activities, learned about positive behaviors, did
fun projects, took fun field trips and were overall very happy with their day to day experience at summer camp which as a
parent made me happy. No parent wants to have to leave their child somewhere they don’t want to be and I didn’t have that
concern, my kids looked forward going to camp every day.”
“We enjoyed camp so much that we became Y members and now attend the Y Before & Afterschool program. I saw my child
grow so much from his experience at camp. THANK YOU!”
“We’ve loved the Y Day Camp experience - my kids came home filthy & tired. Just how it should be!”
