5th Anniversary Event
Saturday, April 20, 2013 5pm
Today marks the 5th anniversary of the Grand Opening of America's first public
Jai-alai court. Over 5,000 games and hundreds of players have played on the
court in the past 5 years. Extensive renovations (including the rising of the long
side wall) have been going on with the help of Scott King Construction, Paul
Kubala and the City of St. Pete and the Weeki
Wachee funds.
Jai-alai legend Sarmiento, now a young 84
years old and the winner of the first singles
game ever in Tampa Jai-alai history and the top
ITM player from 1953-1954, will have the honor
of throwing out the first pelota.
A record number of players are expected to play
in today's special 8-game program. Sit back
and enjoy the action, the music, and the food.
Thanks for coming!
Javier, former Tampa jai-Alai basket maker, will
be on-site with baskets for sale and repairs.

New Court Renovations
At press time, the renovations of raising the court wall and screen changing were
still going on. Above, are the two drawings of what the court will look like. The
photo below is how the court looked a week ago.
Between using the new “Matt Ball” and the
court walls going up, the new jai-alai
experience is a massive improvement from
5 years ago. Special thanks to Scott King
Construction and the “father” of the court,
