We certainly have plenty of ideas on how to further develop our behaviour management systems using a restorative approach. We also spent time looking at our curriculum planning for 2015. Our overarching theme is discovery and we will start the year looking at the 100 year war anniversary to tie in with the Gallipoli memorials next year. Scientific discovery and world discoveries will be the major areas of emphasis for the remainder of the year. Kapa Haka Performance Our groups are very busy practising for their performance at the &RUEDQ¶V$UW&HQWUHRQth November. Parents and students have also been very busy making poi and organising the uniforms ready for the day. Year 7 and 8 Camp Our campers returned from their week long camp at Motutapu looking extremely tired, but all reports tell of a great camp with our students excelling in their behaviour. They challenged themselves on the activities well supported by the parent helpers. Our thanks to the staff who made the camp such a great success. Athletics Our Year 3 to 8 Athletics day is next week on Thursday 6th November. See notice in Sports News section for more details. Organisation 2015 A final reminder that if you have additional information that you would like the teachers to consider about your child when making class placements please email it to the associate principals by Friday 31st October. [email protected] for students in Years 5 to 8 and [email protected] for students in Years 1 to 4. Alternatively if you would like your son to be considered for one of the boys only classes please email Denise Haven ([email protected]) by Friday 31st October. We are starting to draft our classes for 2015 next week 2015 Dates: Term 1 Monday 2nd Feb to Thursday 2nd April Term 2 Monday 20th April to Friday 3rd July Term 3 Monday 20th July to Friday 25th September Term 4 Monday 12th Oct to Wednesday 16th December Korean International Students For the week of February 8 ± February 14, 2015 we are hosting 40 students from Korea. Please consider being a homestay family. We are still desperately short of families to host an international student. It is a very rewarding experience, you are recompensed monetarily and the benefits for the school will be passed on to your children. It is not necessary to have children at the age of the students. We just need loving, caring families. If you have never done it before, now is a good time to start²it is only for one week. If you are interested or need more information please call Wendy Melles on 0274738343 or email [email protected] ICAS Results Congratulations to the following students who achieved very well in the ICAS Spelling, Writing and English Assessments this year. Before I started building the compost I was like: what a waste of day! %XLOGLQJFRPSRVWLVQ¶WHYHUJRLQJ to help anyone! But while I was making it, I changed my thinking completely, and I realised how wrong I was. I felt great to know that I was helping the environment by helping Nourish Gardens become the place it will grow to be. I thought I would be fussy about having to touch horse poo and mud, but a switch must have flicked somewhere in my EUDLQEHFDXVH,GLGQ¶WPLQGDWDOOVRPD\EH,NQHZWKDW,ZRXOG stimulate the community by doing so. Please give all my thanks to John and Marian for the wonderfully delicious potatoes the cooked for us. I remembered biting into the crisp skin and being greeted by a scrumptious mouthful of steaming heaven. Your animals are very cute and playful but Friday and Jazz were a little disruptive while you were trying to talk. I liked the swing and the trampoline, though! Friday looked funny when she was dancing under the trampoline, and your hilly paddocks are fun to roll down. <RXDUHDYHU\LQVSLULQJZRPDQDQGLW¶VDPD]LQJWKDW\RXGHYRWH\RXU time and effort to help other people and the community. When our trip came to an unwanted and abrupt end, you could tell everyone was disappointed. Thank you so much for inviting us to your farm and you DQGWKHWHDPDUHDPD]LQJSHRSOH<RX¶UHWKHNLQGRISHRSOHZKRFDQ change the world forever with your kind and caring actions. Nourish Gardens is a place that will thrive and grow in the future because you are the people that make a difference. Kind regards, Niamh McEvoy Room 3 School Gardens Look at these amazing gardens, thanks to the working bee that cleared the gardens for fresh plants to arrive. If you have noticed these JDUGHQVEHIRUH\RXFDQVHHWKDWLW¶VPDGHD big difference with no rubbish hanging in or around the plants. As you can see above, the plants have been replaced with green refreshing bushes or flowers. When they all start to grow they will look fabulous. Now all we need to do is keep this environment clean and no stepping on the gardens or plants. And again thanks to everyone that helped out in the working bee for this new project! An orchestra joined with a dance company involving school students from year 1-13. It was a spectacular show for all ages. This performance as well as the comfy seats in the Aotea Centre, I am sure many will want to go again. Thank you to Ms Marston for organising this. It was amazing. By Indy Brown Room 2
