PROGRAM
Let’s Protect Our Future Together
First, let me thank you for taking the
time to join us in D.C. and helping
to explain the important role we play
facilitating real estate transactions and
protecting homebuyers’ investments.
We are thankful for your participation
and telling our industry’s story—and
more importantly—your story. There’s
no better opportunity to meet with your
federal legislators and share real-life
examples of how their decisions on
Capitol Hill impact the people in their
district or state.

During our Lobby Day meetings, we will address three issues
with members of Congress. The first involves asking members of
Congress to support a bill directing the CFPB to commit to a
hold-harmless period through Dec. 31 following implementation
of the TILA-RESPA Integrated Disclosures (TRID). Second, we
need each of you to explain how the TRID rule requires you to
disclose incorrectly your rates for title insurance to the consumer.
For title professionals in the majority of states, this federal rule
requires you to represent a cost to the consumer that is absolutely
wrong and confusing. Finally, we will encourage Congress to
avoid making changes that would negatively affect Americans’
investments in housing and real estate when attempting to reform
the United States’ tax code.
If this is your first time in D.C., be prepared for the experience
of a lifetime. You may be worried about what to say, but ALTA’s
talented staff and veteran attendees will help assure your meetings
are successful. Just remember to wear comfortable walking shoes
for our day on the Hill.
While real estate is local and how our industry operates can vary
from county to county, we all share the common bond of assuring
property rights and facilitating the exchange of real property.
We can’t go wrong as long as we remember and explain how our
services protect consumers. Thank you for joining me during this
significant and influential political event.
Best Wishes,
Diane Evans NTP
ALTA president

The Title Insurance Political Action
Committee (TIPAC) and the Title Action
Network (TAN) are excited to host awardwinning journalist Candy Crowley for an
interactive discussion of American politics
over drinks and heavy hors d’oeuvres.
Operating behind the scenes for much
of her career, Crowley will share her
own experiences and candidly discuss her interactions with
politicians through the years. Crowley is one of the smartest
and most astute observers of politics of our time. She served
as CNN’s chief political correspondent and host of its Sunday
morning talk show State of the Union with Candy Crowley, a
political hour of the week’s most important issues. In 2012, she
became the first woman to moderate a presidential debate in
two decades when she led the general election debate between
President Barack Obama and Governor Mitt Romney.
Covering the most important news stories in recent history,
her assignments have taken her to all 50 states and around the
