(de, de/cl =Distance Education)
The teacher and students at various learning sites
in Thunder Bay and Contact North sites in Northern
Ontario are connected for scheduled classes using
computers, internet connection and delivery
software. Which means instructors may not be
physically in the room with students. Students can
listen, speak and see PowerPoint slides, the
whiteboard and other learning materials. Courses
are available in Fall, Winter and Spring semesters.
Assignments are submitted to the instructor and
tests are written at a Testing/Learning Centre.
Distance EducationVideoconferencing
Some full-time and part-time programs and courses
are offered in Thunder Bay and Contact North
locations in Northern Ontario that have
videoconferencing equipment. You can participate
in live classes in action with a teacher and
classmates in various locations. During the class,
you can see full motion as well as listen, speak and
see demonstrations and visual learning materials.
Evening Classes (cl = classroom)
A variety of post-secondary courses are offered in
the evenings, Monday through Thursday, usually
between 7 and 10 pm at the Thunder Bay campus.
Courses are offered in three semesters: Fall, Winter
and Spring/Summer. These part-time classes are
instructor led and may occur one or two evenings
per week.
Virtual College (vc = Virtual College)
Using your own computer, Internet connection and
the latest delivery software, you can connect and
participate in live classes from the comfort of your
home. Your computer becomes a powerful 2-way
communication tool allowing you to listen, speak,
and see visual materials such as PowerPoint, the
whiteboard and other visual materials. Courses are
available in Fall, Winter and Spring semesters. You
may mail/email assignments to your instructor and
write tests in a Testing/Learning Centre. See the
Continuing Education website for computer
technical requirements. A technician will contact
you by email or by phone to assist with the set up
of your computer before the first class.
eLearning (ol = elearning)
Course materials are provided online and you may
be required to purchase a text and software, if
applicable. The instructor responds by email to
questions, gives feedback and facilitates
discussions. This is the perfect solution for those
who need flexibility in learning but also need
instructor feedback. Courses are offered in three
semesters, Fall, Winter and Spring, and some
courses also start at the beginning of each month.
You write your tests at a Testing/Learning Centre.
Over 1000 courses are available and many courses
are equivalent to Confederation College credit
courses. Visit www.confederationc.on.ca/ce/elearning
for the current listing.
*NOTE: classes may be cancelled due to
insufficient enrollment. Be sure to register
early to avoid disappointment.

How do I know if the course I am
taking prepares me for the
workforce?
Courses and programs offered through the Centre
for Continuing Education include curriculum that is
reasonably believed to prepare graduates for a
particular career field. Please be advised however
that prior to registering, it is incumbent on the
student to check with potential employers in their
own community to determine if a specific course or
program is acceptable preparation for employment
at their particular business or organization.
