OntarioLearn and Confederation Online Learning – Web Courses
Online Learning students can pursue their educational goals – completing a single course or the fulfillment of a
college recognition of achievement, certificate or diploma. Students take courses at their own pace while
adhering to the course structure and established deadlines in a course schedule. Learning is facilitated by an
instructor who is available to answer questions, encourage discussion and provide feedback. Communication
with students is conducted through a variety of tools such as email, discussion boards and presentations. In
order to take an online course, students must have access to a computer with an internet connection and a
current email address.
Confederation College is a partner in a consortium called OntarioLearn, in which students are able to take
courses offered by several of the colleges in Ontario. Courses delivered through OntarioLearn may be delivered
using Blackboard, Moodle, D2L, Angel or other learning management systems. Confederation College’s Online
Learning courses are completed using a learning management system (LMS) called Blackboard. The main
difference between OntarioLearn and Confederation Online is that the facilitator for the OntarioLearn courses is
located at another college within Ontario.
Over 100 online learning (OntarioLearn) courses have been approved as equivalent to Confederation College
credit courses. General education and post-secondary courses are available throughout the year. Please visit
www.confederationc.on.ca/ce/onlinelearning for more information about Online Learning at Confederation

Shutter Speed and Aperture

NEW
Now two nights!
Shutter Speed and Aperture are like the
photographic equivalent of the Ying and the Yang,
one directly affecting the other. In photography, they
are basic and very important concepts to
understand. Want to "freeze-frame" action, or
ensure your landscape photos are perfectly sharp?
Do you want a nice "blurred-out" background in a
portraiture, or do you want to show the movement
of a beautiful flowing river? All you need is a digital
camera and a tripod. Visit www.myspace.com/
bwphotoguy for inspiration. In order to get the most
out of this workshop it is recommended that you
take Photography as a Hobby first.

Welding Techniques
“Rosie’s Girls” takes its name from Rosie the
Riveter, the fictional World War II icon who
represented the women who went to work in
shipyards and factories to fill shortages while men
fought overseas. At Rosie's Girls camp, 6-8th
grade girls receive training in the skilled trade of
welding. This program supports girls in finding
their own strength, power and confidence.
Girls will have a chance to get their hands dirty,
express themselves creatively and explore what
the world of welding has to offer them – and what
they have to offer the world! Girls will get hands-on
instruction with the mig welder (a glorified sewing
machine with sparks), the oxyacetylene torch and
the plasma cutter. They will have the opportunity
to get creative and make their own abstract
sculptures and a Rosie the Riveter bracelet. Our
“Rosie’s Girls” will leave the camp saying “ yes…
we can do it!”. See the Summer 2013 Key for
registration information on this one-week camp
being offered in July in our state of the art welding
