Visit the Archbishops Palace dating back to
1770, where you will learn about Archbishop
Richard Robinson. Visit the Primates private
Chapel, the Palace Stables and take in the
surrounding grounds including the walled
garden, the servants tunnel and the ice
house one of the finest remaining in Ireland.

Guided Exhibition Tour of the J.B Vallely
Exhibition. Internationally renowned Armagh
artist J.B. Vallely guides you on a tour of his
collection of works housed in the recently
refurbished Archbishops Palace.
Irish Female Artists - Talk *

Anne Callanan is a local artist and art historian
and founder of Luan School of Art, based in
Dundalk, Ireland and Florence, Italy. With a love
of classical art, specialising in Renaissance
Art and Classical Drawing Anne will deliver
a lecture on Irish Female Artists. Tracing the
lives and works of female artists in 19th & 20th
century. The lecture will look at the likes of
Sarah Purser, Evie Hone, Mainie Jellet & Mary
Swanzy. Discussing the role these women took
in the art world and the pioneering Modernist
who established cubism in conservative
Ireland. The importance of craft and drawing
in their portfolio and how it compares to the
practise of artists today.

Armagh Gaol Tours *
Gaol Square | Tours take place at
11.00am, 12.30pm, 2.00pm & 3.30pm
Tour duration: 45 - 50 minutes [Approx]

Armagh Gaol dates back to the 1780’s and
closed its doors as a working prison in
1986. The Gaol is earmarked for a major
redevelopment including the construction
of a hotel and accommodation. This is
the once in a lifetime opportunity to see
the Gaol in its original state before work
commences. This tour informs you about
the Gaol’s history that includes women
and children imprisonment and the
executions that took place in the grounds.

using specially developed cool wax. A lovely
keepsake for years to come and fun to make!
Tutor Elena Brennan will teach you the skills
and techniques required to create your own
unique pair of earrings or pendant using silver
wire accented with gemstone and crystal beads.
In this fun and inspiring workshop you will
create spirals and geometric shapes integrated
with beading of your choice and have your very
own ‘Ready to Wear’ jewellery to take home or
put on right away!

Get creative with tutor Mary Cowan of Miley
and Pat handmade ceramics as you make and
take home your very own cute baby hedgehog.
Working 3 dimensionally with air drying clay
and using basic pottery techniques such as
pinching, slabbing and modelling you will
create your own unique baby hedgehog. All
materials and tools provided.
*Pre-booking is essential for workshops

Join Lynda Hassin from LyndaB Ceramics studio
to design and create your own jewellery tray
using porcelain clay. You will use hand building
techniques including imprinting and relief to
texture your piece and glazes to colour. All
materials will be provided but you are welcome
to bring your own pieces of lace or textured
items to make your piece that little bit more
personal. At the end of the workshop the trays
will be taken away for firing and returned to
the Market Place Theatre and Arts Centre for
collection the next week.

Rachel Tinniswood demonstrates wet felted
corsages using merino wool, silk and beading.
TRADITIONAL BASKET MAKING
Alison Fitzgerald
Master Crafter Alison Fitzgerald demonstrates
traditional willow basket making and talks
about the history of basket making in the local
area including information about growing and
preparing willow.
CERAMIC HAND BUILDING TECHNIQUES
Ciara Campbell
Ciara Campbell ‘Throws’ a range of pots on the
potter’s wheel - watch the complete process
from ball of clay to completed pot. Try your
hand at making a pot on the wheel under
Ciara’s guidance.
TEXTILES & SPINNING
Rosemary McCartney
Demonstration of wool carding and wheel
spinning to produce yarn. Have a go on
the spinning wheel to make your own yarn.
JEWELLERY MAKING
Robyn Galway
Robyn Galway works with found materials and
polyurathane plastics to construct wearable
sculptures and alternative jewellery. This
demonstration challenges the perception
of jewellery and portrays a contemporary
application of craft skills.
STONE CARVING
Marc Kelly
Marc Kelly demonstrates the ancient art of
traditional stone carving using locally sourced
sandstone and explains its significance from
ancient boundary makers to modern buildings
and sculpture.
LEATHER WORKING
James Adair
Learn traditional techniques of creating hand
sewn functional leather items such as belts,
purses and bags.
WOOD TURNING
Clive Lyttle
Demonstration of traditional woodworking
techniques on pole lathe, treadle lathe and a
treadle frett saw.
GLASS-LAMPWORKING
Margaret Napier
Glass bead making techniques using
the torch with hot glass. Have a go at
creating your own glass bead to take
home.
JEWELLERY MAKING
Shannon McShane
Shannon McShane demonstrates the
processes of reticulation which is the
controlled melting of surface silver.
When the surface is molten the silver
is dragged around to create a rippling
texture which has a unique finish and
design every time.
TEXTILES
Eleanor Rose Irwin [Kissick]
Eleanor Rose Irwin demonstrates the
techniques of freeform crochet to create
mineral rocks and crystals, embroidered
mushrooms and lace butterflies.
Children will find the insects, stories
and the miniature sizes fascinating
and adults will appreciate the intricate
techniques involved in this craft.

Andrew Cooke
Andrew Cooke demonstrates carving
tattoo art onto clay motorcycle
helmets and the techniques used to
make and finish his unique helmets.
CERAMIC SCULPTURE
Kerrie Hanna
Using ceramics techniques including
hand building, slab building and
coiling Kerrie Hanna demonstrates
the process of sculpting the human
head from start to finish.
ROPE MAKING
Steffi Otto
Visitors can help to make a traditional
hemp rope on Steffi Otto’s vintage
rope walk, create colour using dyed
hemp and wool fabrics and then try
your rope out. Why not get the whole
family involved and try skipping with
a family sized rope! Quoit games and
knot tying boards are available to
play with.
