Dear Friends of Holy Cross,
I am very happy to welcome you to the 11th Annual 2014 Gaelic Gala. Thank you
for the generous support of our faith community. Without your support, Holy
Cross would not be able to continue our ministries to our parish family and those
around us.
I hope the evening brings you time to relax and enjoy the auction, dinner and
dancing. We will also have the opportunity to be thankful for the many blessings
bestowed on our parish and to award the Celtic Cross honoring the Eickhoffs.
I do not want to forget to thank our co-chairs, John and Tressi Jungers and Pat
and Jill Engelbert, and the many volunteers, benefactors, families and friends who
do so much to make this major event such a success.

Welcome to the 11th Annual Holy Cross Gaelic Gala
Thank you for your attendance and contributions to this benefit for Holy
Cross Parish. We are delighted that you are here to participate in what
promises to be a fun and entertaining evening.
Tonight we are recognizing our Celtic Cross Award Honorees, Joan and
Larry Eickhoff. The Celtic Cross is presented to a person or persons who
have “demonstrated an abiding love for Holy Cross and have demonstrated
this love through service and sacrifice in support of the parish.” Please take
a moment to read the biography of Joan and Larry who have been a true
Irish blessing for Holy Cross Parish. We extend our heartfelt prayers of
appreciation and gratitude for the Eickhoffs and their family.
Of course, this event would not have been possible except for the
countless hours of work from so many parishioners, from the very young
to the young at heart. Your creativity and enthusiasm demonstrates why
Holy Cross is such a vital, strong, and integral part of midtown Omaha.
We would also like to thank our many donors and patrons. Through your
generosity, Holy Cross will continue to be the vibrant parish and school
that has been part of this community since 1920. Please take a moment to
look through the many names of supporters listed in our catalog and take
the opportunity to thank them for their contributions of time, talent, and
treasure.

Each bidder is assigned a bid number and is responsible for all bids made by this
number.
All bids are final. No refunds or exchanges will be made.
Payment for successfully bid items may be made at the Cashier’s Table. Payment
in full is required this evening. Cash, checks, MasterCard and Visa will be
accepted.
Items may be removed only by presenting a receipt marked PAID. Merchandise
must be removed this evening.
Group purchases are invited. Please coordinate this with the Cashiers, providing
cashier with names, amounts and form of payment.
Values printed are estimates only and are not warranted by Holy Cross Church
& School for tax purposes or general value. To determine the amount of your
charitable contributions, consult your tax advisor.
All certificates must be used as specified. Be sure to check expiration and
limitations of the certificate. All gift certificates are to be picked up at the
Cashier’s Table.

Upon arrival at the Gala, proceed to the Cashier’s table and present either your Visa or
MasterCard. A volunteer will imprint your card and obtain your signature on a credit
card charge slip. At this point, your bid number will be flagged “EXPRESS” for all
auctions and your credit card will be charged accordingly. Each transaction will be
handled carefully and confidentially and all imprints will be shredded at the end of the
evening.
If you purchase a silent or oral auction item during the evening, your purchases may be
picked up by showing your bid number.

2014 Celtic Cross Award
Larry and Joan Eickhoff
Larry was born and raised in a good Catholic family in the country, in
Northeast Nebraska. He received a good Catholic education at St. John
the Baptist grade school in Fordyce, and at Holy Trinity (now Cedar
Catholic) High School in Hartington, mostly taught by priests and religious
sisters. Soon after graduating from high school Larry moved to Omaha. A
couple of years later Larry married Joan Salvatori on September 10, 1958,
and settled in the Omaha-Council Bluffs area. Larry worked in
management for the local bus company (Metro Transit) for 38 years before
retiring at the end of 1999.
Joan was born July 19, 1937 in Yankton, South Dakota. She attended grade
school at St. Boniface grade school in Menominee, Nebraska, and also
attended Mount Marty High School in Yankton, S.D.
Larry and Joan have been members of Holy Cross Parish since 1971. Larry
organized and coached Little League baseball, worked as a leader in Cub
Scouts, served as a Sacristan, a Lector, and an Extraordinary Minister of
Holy Communion for several years. He is currently serving on the
maintenance committee. Joan served as officer for Holy Cross School and
always a room mother. She served on Parish Council, President and Vice
President of the Alter Society, and still serves on the board. She is in
charge of the craft club, which is one of the functions of the Alter Society
who make 50 quilts per year of the homeless vets, make tea towels,
scrubbies, baby quilts, Baptismal bibs, and several more wonderful items.
Joan serves on the funeral committee, serves as Sacristan on week days,
Lector and Eucharistic minister as needed. Joan also served as a volunteer
in the Rectory Office for 10 years, after retiring from University of
Nebraska Medical Center.
After moving to Holy Cross Parish in 1971 with five children, four went to
Holy Cross School and Rodney went to Madonna School for exceptional
children. Jeffrey went all 9 years to Holy Cross.
Larry and Joan have five children and nine grandchildren.
Kate Sullivan (John) she is a Registered Nurse and lives in St. James,
Missouri.
Rodney lives at home with Larry and Joan. Father Matthew is pastor of
Holy Trinity in Brainard, Nebraska. He is also the Director of Family Life
and Evangelization offices in the Lincoln Diocese. Barbara Cordwin (Mike)
is a Doctor of Pharmacy and lives in Papillion, Nebraksa. Father Jeffery is
Rector of Saint Gregory the Great Seminary in Seward, Nebraska.
