Ladies’ Bible Study Continues… Ladies’ Bible Study Leader Julia Farris has announced that, following the soon-to-be-completed study of Daniel, the remaining weeks of Ladies’ Bible Study will be filled with the exciting video experience of seeing the Bible come alive in Ray Vander Laan’s Fire on the Mountain. When the Israelites left Egypt, they were finally free…free from persecution, free from oppression, and free to worship their own God. But with that freedom came a new challenge – learning how to live together the way God intends. Join renowned teacher and historian Ray Vander Laan as he guides you through the land of the Bible. In each of the lessons, he illuminates the historical, geographical, and cultural context of the sacred Scriptures. Filmed on location in the Middle East, this video series will transform your understanding of God and challenge you to be a true follower of Jesus. The following six lessons bring God’s Word to life, with astounding relevance for modern believers: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. The Lord Who Heals You – filmed at the Red Sea and Sinai Not by Bread Alone – filmed at Sinai Their Blood Cried Out – filmed at Serabit al Khadim The Mountain of God – filmed at Jebel Katarina I Led You Like a Bride – filmed at Jebel Katarina The Whisper of God – filmed at Jebel Katarina Bible Study times are 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday evenings, with the material being repeated at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday mornings. One week will be spent per video. No homework will be involved with this Fire on the Mountain series. Simply come and enjoy these magnificent videos. Any men who also wish to view these videos would certainly be welcome to attend. Pass Along Your Faith Story… “We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us what work Thou didst in their days, in the times of old. Psalm 44:1 God is at work in every generation, saving and delivering. He commands that each generation pass on their experiences with Him to the succeeding generations. These thrilling testimonies would reveal Who they worshiped and what He had done. Have you ever sat at your parents’ or grandparents’ feet and heard them tell how God moved during their lifetimes? The death of a senior citizen often feels as though a library were burning – all of that knowledge and experience ceasing to exist. Take advantage of your elders’ dealings with God; urge them to tell you about God’s salvation and miracles. And pass on to others how you have known God and His ways. Father, great is Your faithfulness to each generation.” -- Billie Friel Women’s Birthday Club Lunch Returns to Monday! “Your life is a gift from the Creator. You Are Valuable… A well-known speaker started off his seminar by holding up a $20 bill. In the room, filled with around 200 people, he asked, “Who would like this $20 bill?” Hands started going up. The speaker said, “I am going to give this $20 bill to one of you…but first, let me do this.” He proceeded to crumple up the bill. He then asked, “Who still wants it?” Still, hands went up in the air. “Well,” he replied, “What if I do this?” And he dropped it and began to grind it into the floor with his shoe. When he picked it up again, the bill was all crumpled and dirty. “Now who still wants it?” Still hands went into the air. “My friends,” he said, “You have all learned a very valuable lesson. No matter what I did with the money, you still wanted it because it did not decrease in value. It was still worth $20.” Many times, in our lives, we are dropped, crumpled, and ground into the dirt by the decisions we make or the circumstances which come our way. We feel as though we are worthless. But no matter what has happened or what will happen, you will never lose your value in God’s eyes. To Him, dirty or clean, crumpled or finely creased, you are still priceless to Him. Psalm 17:8 states that God will keep us “as the apple of His eye.” The worth of our lives comes not in what we do or who we are, but in WHOSE we are! -- Submitted by Richard Eliason Fourth & Fifth Grade Sunday School Class News! This month, Nancy Cagle’s 4th & 5th Grade Sunday School Class will be busy, memorizing the Twenty-Third Psalm. This beautiful Scripture reminds us that God will protect us, provide for us, and guide us. It compares believers to sheep, who are watched over and gently led through life’s sometimes dangerous paths by the Shepherd and Guardian of our souls. Our 4th & 5th Graders will learn that they can safely trust in their Good Shepherd throughout their earthly lives; and that, as believers, we can look forward to eternal life in His heavenly home. Encourage these children as they commit to memory these comforting words… The Lord is my Shepherd. I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures; He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His Name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.” -- Psalm 23 Annie Armstrong Easter Offering National Goal: $70 million MBC Goal: $1,000.00 Through gifts to the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering, Southern Baptist missions personnel are enabled to share the good news of Jesus Christ throughout North America. Because every dollar given to the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering goes to direct support of missionaries and their ministries, Southern Baptists are assured that their offering gifts are an investment in eternity. Our missionaries are faithful stewards of those gifts. In her day (1850-1938), Annie Armstrong rallied churches to give more, pray more, and do more in reaching people for Christ. As we continue to unite to make her vision a reality in North America today, we can be confident that her legacy will also be ours. The national goal for the 2010 Annie Armstrong Easter Offering for North American Missions is $70,000,000. Memorial Baptist Church has set a goal of $1,000 for our portion of this important offering. Please be generous in your giving this year. Have You Visited Our MBC Website? Memorial Baptist Church is pleased to announce that our church website is up and running! Beth Moore Simulcast in Cheyenne There will be a one-day simulcast event, based on Beth Moore’s newest book, So Long Insecurity, from 10:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 24, 2010, at the Cheyenne Hills Church, located at 7505 U.S. Highway 30 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Tickets, which include lunch, are $30.00. Participants will learn to conquer fear and doubt, and will discover the liberating confidence that can only be found in Christ. Partly autobiographical in nature, Beth uses stories, prayers, and practical ideas to nudge us out of insecurity and into the knowledge of our God-given dignity. No matter your age or status, you can learn to battle insecurity with God’s Truth. For more information regarding this event, please contact our church office, or telephone Cheyenne Hills Church at (307) 778-6431. Gratitude for Years of Dedicated Service On Sunday, March 14, 2010, Chairman of the MBC Deacon Board, Robert Lowder, presented a plaque to Mr. Joseph P. Johnson, recognizing his many years of service as a Deacon of Memorial Baptist Church, and honoring him as Deacon Emeritus. Joe, and his wife, Clara Lou, have been with Memorial Baptist Church from its very beginning, and have spent their lives in devoted service to our Lord and to His people here. Pictured, at right with Joe and Clara Lou, is one of their sons, Rex Johnson, who also serves Memorial Baptist Church as a deacon. Following our morning worship, everyone expressed their gratitude and extended their congratulations to this dearly loved couple. Thanks for all your support. When life’s really difficult, it helps to have people like you to lean on. Thank you for making a hard time easier… Thank you all so much for the prayers and thoughts these past months. It helped knowing we have another family to think of us, being far from our other family. The plant was very thoughtful. My dad has moved to a better place. Stephanie, Roy, Macy, & Dale Mote There is a place where the most important things in life can be found. Hope, purpose, peace, and life are all found at the cross. What makes the cross of Jesus so great? Find the answers at the foot of the cross, where God loves you and offers you eternal life… The Bible says, “But God proves His own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 8:28)! The reason Christ died is for sin. The Bible says, “For Christ also suffered for sins once for all, the righteous [that was Jesus] for the unrighteous [that was us], that He might bring you to God” (I Peter 3:18). From the beginning until today, all people are guilty before God because of their sin. The Bible says, “For the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23). Wages are what we earn. Physical death separates us from life here and spiritual death separates us from God in the hereafter. The Bible says, “He made the One who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him” (2 Corinthians 5:21). Jesus took our sin upon Himself and suffered what we deserved. Jesus’ sacrifice displays God’s loving mercy and righteous justice as no other action could. He offers forgiveness for our sin as a free gift. The gift, however, must be received. Because Jesus is our Substitute, He is the only One who can offer salvation. Salvation includes forgiveness of sin and the gift of eternal life. To receive Jesus’ free gift of salvation, we must turn away from sin and turn to God. We must believe and trust Christ alone for our salvation. For spiritual help, call: 1-888-Jesus20 (1-888-537-8720); visit FinditHere.com; or call us at 322-3236. Okay, folks! What does “E.A.T.S.” stand for??? It’s “Eating Again This Sunday!!” And that’s just what we will do on the final Sunday of each month! The MBC Church Council, in their constant quest to provide opportunities for us all to enjoy each other’s company and to get to know our newer attendees better, has come up with a great idea! Since MBC is blessed with so many outstanding cooks, and since some wonderful fellowship always happens around the table, they thought it would be fun to get together on the last Sunday evening of each month and enjoy food centered around a particular country or theme! So, what’s happening in April? E.A.T.S. will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday evening, April 25th, and this month’s theme is Italian food!! So, get out your cookbooks, do some research, and come up with some yummy Italian recipes to share! Get ready for a casual, relaxed atmosphere at our April E.A.T.S.!! Stories Behind the Songs… Because He Lives Words and Music by Bill & Gloria Gaither Jesus said, “Because I live, you also will live.” John 14:19 God sent His Son – they called Him Jesus; He came to love, heal, and forgive; He lived and died to buy my pardon; an empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives. How sweet to hold a new-born baby and feel the pride and joy he gives; but greater still the calm assurance: This child can face uncertain days because Christ lives. And then one day I’ll cross the river; I’ll fight life’s final war with pain; and then, as death gives way to victory, I’ll see the lights of glory – and I’ll know He lives. Chorus: Because He lives, I can face tomorrow, because He lives all fear is gone; Because I know He holds the future and life is worth the living – just because He lives. Memorial Baptist Church, CCL#976803 Christ’s resurrection is our guarantee of at least two basic truths: First, He has the power to give His life to us and to bring us ultimately to glory to reign with Him forever. And, second, His resurrection makes it possible for Him to live in our hearts and to be an integral part of our daily living. For the past three decades, the music of Bill and Gloria Gaither has greatly enriched evangelical hymnody, and this is the song that has especially highlighted their ministry. Experiencing the birth of their son at the peak of the Vietnam War and at the height of the drug culture, the Gaithers took comfort in the lyric that “this child can face uncertain days because He lives.” It gave them courage to say, “Because Christ lives, we can face tomorrow.” Live in the joyous confidence that the risen, living Christ is guiding your life.
