History of South Bay
Adult Care Center
After her husband Seymour became ill
with Alzheimer's disease, Rena Bogin
made it her mission to fill one of the
voids in services with which she had
struggled.
She labored for a number of years to
make the South Bay Adult Care Center a
reality so that those with loved ones in
similar circumstances would have a
place that would provide care and a
social outlet for their loved ones; and
much needed respite for them.
In 1993 Rena opened the doors of South
Bay Adult Care Center two days a week.
Over the years it has grown to a full time
center operating five days a week providing thousands of hours of care and
respite a year.
South Bay Adult Care Center, Inc. is a
501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. Donations are gratefully accepted.

SOUTH BAY ADULT CARE CENTER
Our Mission
It is our mission to assist seniors with
Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, stroke,
Parkinson’s disease, or other conditions
that cause them to have special needs
in order to extend the time they are able
to stay with their families or in other
community settings by providing a
stimulating social environment outside
the home for them to enjoy, while at the
same time providing respite for their
caregivers.
What Kind of Clients Do
We Accept
South Bay Adult Care Center is a social
model adult day program. We accept
seniors who are ambulatory, use assistive devices to walk or who are in wheelchairs, and who may need some assistance with issues of incontinence. We
cannot accept clients who need nursing
care, who are harmful to self or others
or, who have significant issues with
wandering.

The “Clubhouse”
South Bay Adult Care Center is located
at the Anderson Park Senior Center. In
keeping with the overall operation of the
Senior Center we like to think of South
Bay Adult Care Center as a clubhouse.
We endeavor for it to be welcoming and
enjoyable for our “members.” While we
provide for the special needs of our
members, the purpose for them should
be enjoyment. We are a clubhouse with
extra assistance as necessary.
Fees
Fees for our services are $8.00 per hour.
Some fee assistance may be made
available through a grant from the Julius
Sumner Miller Foundation based on
member income. Residents of Hermosa, Manhattan, or Redondo Beach
may be eligible for assistance from
Beach Cities Health District. Some
members of SCAN HMO may be eligible
to have services covered.
