MATTERS
I can't believe this year is half way through
already! I hope everyone is enjoying their summer and
staying cool in these hot days.
We're only a month away from Turnover!
It's been long awaited and I just want to take a final
opportunity to remind everyone of the importance of
attending this meeting in person or via proxy. We need
at least 426 households represented in order to meet
quorum and proceed with the Annual Meeting/Turnover.
If you cannot attend in person, you may either submit
your signed proxy form to HOA Office or assign it to
a neighbor. As previously mentioned, we are requesting
that all proxies be submitted by August 2nd to facilitate
the sign-in process on the night of election and not delay
the meeting.
If you are interested in running for the Board,
please be sure to turn in your Candidate Notice of
Intent and Candidate Information Form. All Candidate
Information forms will be mailed (and emailed) along
with blank proxy forms to all owners on July 12th.
We will host a Candidate Meet & Greet on Friday,
July 29th at 7:00pm in the Ballroom. This will allow all
owners the opportunity to hear from the candidates in
person. Light refreshments will be served. We will also
video record this session and send to all owners via email.
As a reminder, the Annual Meeting of the
Members and BOD Turnover Election will be held in the
Town Center at 6:00pm on Wednesday, August 3rd. Food
Truck Night is also still scheduled for that evening!
On another note, the Board of Directors has
scheduled a Board meeting on Tuesday, July 12th from
6:30-8:30pm. The purpose of this meeting is to update all
members on transition related items. I will also send a
summary of the meeting via email to all shortly following
the meeting. Hope to see you there!
As always, if you have any questions/comments/
concerns, please feel free to contact us at vwinfo@
accessdifference.com, call 407.888.2704 or simply stop by
the office!
Thank you for your continued dedication and
involvement! I hope to see you around.
At your service,
Valerie Velazquez

Coexisting with Florida's
Natural Wildlife:
Alligators
Due to the recent events pertaining to the sightings of
alligators in our water bodies, I would like to make some
key points in reference to their presence in our community
and surrounding areas.
Alligators are an important part of Florida’s landscape
and play a valuable role in the ecology of our state’s
wetlands. They are a fundamental part of Florida’s
wetlands, swamps, rivers, and lakes and are found in all
67 counties. They tend to relocate, especially during the
summer mating season and the alligator population in
and around Florida’s bodies of water continue to grow
at a healthy rate. Alligators are predators and help keep other aquatic animal populations in
balance. The majority of gators one may come across, are less than 6ft in length, but gators in
the 8ft -10ft class are not uncommon. There are gators out there both big and small, but you
stand a better chance of being hit by lightning here in the Sunshine State, than being attacked
by an alligator. The idea of living on or near a body of fresh water in Florida that does not
have alligators is just not that realistic, they are a part of the natural order here and are quite
common. These Florida natives are cold blooded so they tend to come out of the water and bask
in the sun to warm up or to move to areas away from people, but they are most comfortable in
water, not land.
Alligators would prefer to avoid interactions with people altogether. It is rare for a gator to
pursue a human because humans are too large to be suitable prey for these nocturnal predators.
When people witness a gator trapping its jaw and growling, they assume its preparing to attack,
in fact this is a defense pasturing. Gators are unlikely to chase you a long distance on dry
land; they are not likely to attack you at all; they actually have a low endurance and are timid
towards us; they either walk away or swim away when approached by us. But if fed by humans,
they will move towards us and it changes the gator’s behavior, associating food with humans,
possibly causing them to become aggressive. It is not only dangerous to feed an alligator, it is
illegal. A water attack is a worst case scenario because it has a home field advantage, which is
why we urge our residents to stay clear of our aesthetic water bodies, which includes fishing,
swimming, tubing etc.…However, just because they have no natural desire to “eat” us, doesn’t
mean we do not have to be cautious in their presence.
In conclusion, the alligator is a creature to be respected and understood and if you come
across one that does not seem bothered by your presence, stay clear of it, keep children and pets
away from the area and report it to Management at 407.888.2704 or vwinfo@accessdifference.
com. For more information on how we can cohabitate with Florida’s natural wildlife, please visit
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission at www.MyFWC.com. State law prohibits
killing, harassing or possessing alligators, even small ones. The state of Florida has a nuisance
alligator program and will respond quickly by sending a licensed trapper to locate and remove
the gator.

The Shenai's
With nothing but $208 in his
pocket, two suitcases and a dream of a
better tomorrow, Kam Shenai came to
the United States on Air India Flight 101,
in 1976 in hopes of building a comfortable
life for him and his family. With a heart
full of ambition and a burning desire to
work hard Kam began his journey in the
US.
Despite earning his Bachelor’s
degree in Engineering and Master’s
Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Kam
has never worked as an engineer. “I’ve
always liked solving problems for people”
explains Kam, “which brought me to a sales and marketing career.”
In his late-twenties Kam had his first job selling mimeograph machines (also known as ditto machines) to
schools and churches in Buffalo, NY and it was no turning back from there. After a 30 year career with a Fortune
500 corporation that included several senior Management roles, Kam was then appointed to the position of Chief
Client Officer of a leading multi-national company.
In the meantime, Shaila who had a law degree from India got her MBA from the University of Buffalo. And
ended up becoming a Vice President of Marketing for a Fortune 500 corporation. After retiring in 2011, it was a
big change once the family decided to move to Florida. “We sold our house in Pittsford, NY and moved to Lake
Nona” exclaims Kam, “we were thinking, this is it, no snow-birding for us!”
The choice to move to VillageWalk was decided on almost immediately after stepping into the Town Center
and seeing the view of the lake from the Gazebo. “I felt like we were at a resort and we said, if we choose to, we
can live here forever! It was love at first sight!!”
Not being sure what exactly to expect, Kam admits that he was pleasantly surprised at the quality of
the food at the Lake Nona Deli, choosing to eat there at least once a week. He couldn’t help but say wow when
the vastness of the community hit him. “I was wowed by the size and scope of everything from the canals to the
bridges and the walk ways and most importantly the feeling of community.” Says Kam
It will be two years living in VillageWalk this October for Kam and his wife Shaila and they have definitely
noticed a few changes over the years. “Construction is done and the trees look bigger,” says Kam, “and the
activities have much more vibrancy! The events and shows are always great, we’re very pleased.”
Safety, serenity, and tranquility are Kam’s top three favorite aspects of VillageWalk, attributing that
feeling of tranquility as being his earliest memory of the community. Kam describes Shaila as being the glue of
the family and praises his two children for becoming such successful and educated adults but understands that
humility must go hand in hand with success. “The more successful you get, the more humble you need to be”
explains Kam, “Humility helps to not let success get in your head.”
Living his day to day life by the phrase do common things uncommonly well, Kam has a natural instinct
to help people and is always pushing others to do the same. “If saying thank you or saying sorry is a good thing,”
says Kam, “then do it more!”
Fun Fact:
Every year on March 18th at 3:45pm Kam listens to the song "America" by Neil
Diamond. His kids call him every year, at the same time, to acknowledge this life
changing day for both their father and their family.

After we have been in our
homes for a while, we all begin
to accumulate lots of things.
Here are some suggestions
to help declutter while
recycling or upcycling. I
find that I always feel less
guilty about discarding
items when I find a new
home or new use for them.
Start with old towels;
you know the ones you never want
the guests to see, the ones with the
loose threads, a hole or a stain. Get an
extra feel-good moment when you donate
them to the local animal shelter where they
will be really appreciated. Reclaim some
garage space by taking old cans of paint,
the ones half full or less that you keep for
touch-up. Put them in an empty glass jar or
plastic container with a tight seal that you
were going to recycle. Now they won’t get
that funky film on the top and corrode the
can. Use a permanent Marker to label the
color or the room where used.
Magazines
that
you
have read can be donated to a Dr
Office waiting room, or a shelter.
Donate books the same way.
If you decide to update
a kitchen, don’t let the old
cabinets end up in the dump.
Instead hang the wall cabinets
in the garage to provide extra
storage and get some of the stuff
off of the floor. Base cabinets can
be used as a work space while also
providing extra storage.
Closets, yikes! Go to the local home
store and purchase a few pieces to put in
your closet. They provide the ability to
organize better while sometimes, doubling
the hanging space.
This should also
provide the incentive you need to purge the
things that you have not worn in a year or
more. Don’t forget to donate the clothes to
a good charity!

we do need volunteers to help us grill! Please contact the
Lifestyle department if your interested in volunteering at
[email protected].
Reminder our swim classes start on July 11th

families sign up in June and since the instructor is
driving from Clermont, she needs at least 30 VillageWalk
residents signed up so please sign up today! We strive to
bring the best option of classes and events, if you have a
recommendation please let us know.
I would also encourage you to get involved with
our Spirit Team. We meet the second Thursday of every
month at 6:30pm in the Town Center. Can you find the six
blueberry photos hidden in our July Newsletter? Email
us each page you located them on and the first person to
send the correct answer will win two free tickets to our
July Comedy Show. Good Luck!
We have introduced ballet classes, and we will
be bringing karate classes on site as well. We realize
summer is a busy time for vacations however we ask if
you're interested in any classes that you please attend.
We will be continuing these classes in the Fall, only if our
attendance numbers continue to climb.
We will start our Wine Tasting courses in
September. The first class is on pairing your wine &
chocolate, on Saturday September the 17th at 7pm.
Chocolate is the confectionery match to wine. Perhaps
this is because the process of making chocolate is very
simliar to wine. Both cocoa beans and wine are fermented
with the very same type of yeast. No wonder there are
so many wine and chocolate lovers! Purchase your tickets
soon as seating is limited!
We are introducing Karaoke on Thursday
evening July the 14th at 6:30pm, if our residents
particapate we will offer Karaoke every over month.
Numerous residents have requested a monthly event
in our Town Center to meet other residents and enjoy
music and lite bites; this will begin on Thursday,
September 15th at 7pm. We will provide music and
you provide food and your favorite beverage! Our Las
Vegas show Elton John the "Rocketman" will be on
Septermber the 23rd and tickets go on sale starting at
the end of this month.
As our Central Florida community continues
to heal from the Pulse Nightclub tragedy, we have met
with a few of our residents who are working with us
to organize a fundraiser and to remind all of us we
are stronger as one community and we stand united
for the whole of the community! If you'd like to get
involved by helping out with events or volunteering to
assist with activities, please reach out to us by emailing
[email protected].
Every day I drive into the VillageWalk
community I feel so blessed and fortunate to serve
each and every resident.
Wishing you all a
wonderful and safe July
4th and I look forward
to seeing you at one of
our many upcoming
events.

A New Preschool is Coming to Lake Nona Area
Choosing the RIGHT child care for your little one can be a daunting task especially for
first-time parents. As parents themselves, finding the right fit for their family led Drs. Wisener
and Mia Young to not only dream of the ideal preschool for their daughter Malea, but to build
it from ground up, and they are doing so just minutes away from Medical City. Bright Scholars
Early Learning Academy is a Christian preparatory preschool that promotes academic excellence and fosters an early awareness of God’s unconditional love. Serving infants through age
6, the brand new preschool opens this fall and is accepting enrollments now. Only a 5-minute
drive from Eagle Creek and immediate openings for all age groups, Bright Scholars is prepared
to serve Lake Nona and the surrounding areas.
Drawing upon 17 years of experience in education as a teacher, principal, educational
consultant, and having worked for a nationally recognized educational child care franchise,
Dr. Mia Young using her parental intuition and surveying families in the area, has created a
comprehensive program that offers exceptionally low teacher-student ratios, small class sizes
and all-inclusive tuition.
“We didn’t want to recreate what already exists; we set out to redefine educational
childcare by doing something different and special. We are not a corporate school but a community school where we love our children, families, and employees. As an independently owned
school, we get to do it our way…to create a warm, loving environment where our families feel
like members of our team and not just as ‘customers’.
Bright Scholars isn’t just a business for us. It’s our passion. It’s our ministry to serve
and partner with families to promote scholarship, service and model God’s love.”Bright
Scholars is currently under construction and when completed this fall, it will offer a brand
new secured state-of-the-art academy that has key-pad entrance, biometric fingerprint checkin, online camera access for parental viewing, and a privacy fenced playground equipped
with large canopies for shade, age appropriate play systems and open space for running and
playing.
“We pride ourselves in academic excellence and offer a structured learning environment for success.” Bright Scholars’ educational philosophy is to prepare children for school
readiness using their Blended Learning Model approach that incorporates teacher-directed
learning, child-initiated play, technology integration and S.T.E.A.M academics to capitalize
on the interests and engagement of each child. S.T.E.A.M. academics is an early focus on
science, technology, engineering, art and math.
Dr. Mia Young will work in the academy daily supporting teachers and ensuring quality
childcare and fun learning activities are provided daily.
The school is located at 2580 N. Narcoossee Road, St. Cloud, Florida 34771 and will operate
year-round Monday-Friday 6:30am – 6:30pm.
To learn more and to secure your child’s enrollment, visit www.MyBrightScholar.com or call

LandscapingUpdate
By: Chris Skersick
Summer heat and humidity have definitely arrived in Central Florida! It appears the summer
rain patterns are here as well. While the rain is a welcome sight, it does add to our many challenges this
time of year. Heavy downpours can cause drainage issues, as well as mulch to wash out of the landscape
beds. These types of issues are the responsibility of the individual homeowner. We will be glad to meet
with you, to look at the situation. The HOA only replenishes mulch one time each year. Once again, we
want to thank you in advance for your patience as we work through a very difficult time of the year.
This month we hope to remove the dead palms in the community. Many of these palms have
died to diseases that are chemically uncontrollable. We will look at every situation individually and
try to come up with the best solution for replacement. We are dealing with two primary diseases;
Fusarium Wilt and Ganaderma. Please note that replacing with the same species in the same location is
usually not a good idea, but in some cases there is no alternative. Palm experts whom have visited the
community have also advised to leave as many fronds on the palms as possible. This allows the palms
to generate more food, helping them battle potential problems.
Our maintenance teams will continue the weekly mowing schedule. Your property should receive
a detail visit approx. every three weeks. This time of year brings excessive growth to everything,
including weeds. Rain also can adversely affect herbicide applications, making controlling weed growth
even more difficult. We will do our best to stay on schedule and keep things at an acceptable level.
Our agronomic team will be working their way through the community scouting for insect and
disease issues. We will spot treat as needed. We will also be looking for weed issues in the turf and
treating accordingly.
Our irrigation team certainly welcomes the much needed rain. This system is extremely
complicated. This team battles so many issues on a week to week basis…too many to list. We really
appreciate the homeowners who keep us informed and have been working with us to resolve issues that
arise. When we are receiving adequate rainfall, there are times we shut the system off. When we do this,
any battery packs that have been installed will still operate.
As I write this, I can’t help but to think of the tragedies that occurred in our city this past
month. Many times we get so focused on what affects us in our own little world, that we lose sight of
what is truly important. Please, let us all not forget to tell our family and friends that we love them.
Please, let us all not forget that we need to be tolerant of others, and treat our fellow humans with
kindness and respect. I believe if we all do this, myself included, we will all be much better for it. Bless
all of you who may have been directly affected by any of these recent tragedies.
If you ever have any questions or concerns you can use our customer service system or
contact your HOA and we will do our best to help. We appreciate the opportunity we are
afforded, servicing this beautiful community.

discover the best eye shadow shades for our eyes. “Make
Your Eye Color Pop” will be held on July 20th,

however, you must register as space is limited to 10 seats per

SHARE OUR JOY: WE HAVE DONATED
A TOTAL OF 2,000 DRESSES!
Michael Callahan, UCF Administrator
and Salena Houck, a student in the Burnett
Honors Program, spoke to our group about
the Educational/Community Center that the
College has set up near Harrismith, South
Africa. The eight specially chosen students
visit the Center every summer where they
help to educate the local children by sharing
their expertise in their respective fields of
health, history, bio-medicine, etc. As in
the past, our club donated dresses for the
students to deliver to South Africa. This year
our contribution was 250 dresses.
Michael Callahan and Salena Houck display
some of our dresses.
We also had visitor, Lindley Blake from Hosean International Ministries whose
group will be going to their camp in Pignon, Haiti on July 15th. They will be delivering
food, and distributing the dresses that we supplied to them to be given to needy children
in two local communities.
Come visit us anytime at the VillageWalk TownCenter where we meet every Thursday
from 10am - 12pm in the Town Center.
All help is appreciated from sewers and non-sewers!
