MIssION sTaTEMENT
It is the purpose and objective of the Wood River Parks & Recreation
Department to provide wholesome recreation to the entire range of citizens
within and surrounding our community. It is our goal to develop and to provide leadership for these services at the lowest possible cost and continue to
run our Golf Course and Aquatic Center as profit producing enterprises. The
Recreation Programs are also self-supporting without any undue burden to our
taxpaying citizens.
Wood River Parks & Recreation programs and facilities are available to all

REGIsTRaTION INFORMaTION
The following program formulated dates, times, fees,
etc., will be adhered to by the best of our ability. However, instances may occur beyond our control which
may cause changes to the aforementioned.
THE ROUND HOUsE
Round House Recreation Center - The Round House
is located at 633 N. Wood River Ave. next to the Aquatic
Center. It accommodates approximately 200 people in the
main area. The Round House is handicap accessible. A
limited amount of chairs and tables are available for use in
the building. It has a kitchen equipped with a stove, microwave, refrigerator and plenty of counter space. Some utensils are available. The Round House is perfect for dinners,
showers, recitals, etc. No smoking is permitted within the
building and no alcohol is permitted on the premises.

GENERaL PaRk INFORMaTION
Bandstand - The Ervin Mouish Bandstand is located in
Central Park. The bandstand is used for special events and
outdoor concerts, in addition to being used by the Municipal Band during the summer season.
Baseball & Softball Diamonds - Emerick Sports Complex, at Sixth Street, has three lighted softball diamonds;
Lions, Jaycee and Rotary Fields and one baseball diamond,
Dwiggins Field. West End Park (Walcott Street) have one
lighted diamond.
Basketball Courts - Half courts are available at East End
Park and Brushey Grove Park.. All of these courts are
open to the public.
Belk Park Clubhouse Multipurpose Hall - Our clubhouse has a multipurpose hall that will seat 168 comfortably, with an outstanding view of the golf course. It has
tables and chairs available along with a big screen television and electric fireplace. This room is great for receptions or banquets. It can be rented by contacting Belk
Park Golf Course.
Fishing - Belk Park Lake and Emerick Sports Complex
have fishing available to the public. The park hours are
from dawn to dusk. A fishing license is required for
anyone 16 & older. Anyone under 16 can fish without a
license when accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Picnic Areas - Wood River has several picnic areas which
are available in the many parks in town. Central Park,
located next to the Aquatic Center, has picnic tables under
a Gazebo-type shelter where there are barbecue pits and
electrical outlets available. It would be very convenient
to spend the day at the Aquatic Center and picnic in the
park. There are picnic areas and shelters available at East
End, West End, Belk & Soccer Parks. These parks have
ball diamonds and playground equipment. To reserve
these shelters please call the Round House at 251-3130.
Tents - 30´ x 20´ pavilion tents are available for Wood
River residents and can be set up by the Recreation
Department for a fee of $100.00 per day or $150.00 for
the weekend. The tent must be placed in Wood River
unless authorized by the Director.
Parks
Wood River provides eight major parks with over 270
acres of facilities. The parks include:
Belk Park - 234-acres is our largest park located on Rock
Hill Road at the eastern edge of the city. In addition to the
18-Hole Championship Golf Course, the present facilities
include a lake with fishing, picnic areas, an open field,
children’s playground equipment, shelters (which can be
rented by visiting City Hall), woodland and open space.
Belk Park has a clubhouse for rent with a nice-sized multipurpose room and seating for 168.
Wood River Parks and Recreation
Brushey Grove Park - This one-acre park is located at
the corner of Linton and Miland, next to the old fire station. This park includes a shelter, barbecue pit, picnic
tables, a playground facility and basketball court.
Central Park (Round House/Aquatic Center) A fiveacre park located on Wood River Avenue, adjacent to the
High School, offers many activities which include: the
Aquatic Center, bandstand, playground, gazebo, barbecue pits, Veteran’s Memorial and large activity center
commonly referred to as the “Round House”.
East End Park - 13 acres and adjacent to the City Garage
on 14th Street, East End Park playground apparatus,
basketball court, picnic tables, shelter house and a picnic
shelter that measures 20´ x 30´.
Emerick Sports Complex - This 8-acre complex is
located on the North End of Sixth Street at Park Lane.
The highlight for the children is our Surf’s Up Playground.
This colorful addition has plenty to keep the young ones
entertained for hours. This complex is
the sight of our Men’s Softball tournaments and our summer league games. This facility contains three lighted
softball diamonds and one baseball diamond. There is a
concession stand, and a lake for fishing.
West End Park - This 5.5-acre park can be found in the
southwest part of town on Walcott St. It has a lighted ball
diamond (George Wallace Field), shelter facilities, basketball hoop and playground equipment.

Wood River Soccer & Skate Park - 43 acres that contain
two lighted regulation soccer fields, one unlighted practice
soccer field, a walking path, playground apparatus, skateboard park, ample parking, a concession stand , stadium
bleachers to view the playing fields, and a picnic shelter.
KIDS CAMPS
We have the programs to keep your kids busy this summer.
Registration runs until classes are full.
Summer Day Camp: The Recreation Department will
once again have a Summer Day Camp for children ages 5
(by 6/01/16) thru 11 years of age. Day Camp is held on
Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00
p.m., June 13, 2016 thru July 22, 2016. PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED IN PERSON. A limit of 50 children
will be accepted. Registration runs from May 1-June 1.
Cost: Residents - $150 per child
Non-Residents - $170 per child. *$10 will be taken off
the price of each additional child registered by parent or
guardian*
Fishing Clinic: A FREE fishing clinic will be offered during the summer at Belk Park. There will be a morning session from 9:00-11am & an afternoon session 1:00-3:00pm.

Cheerleading Camp: A cheerleading camp will be offered
for 4th through 8th grade students July 25 - July 29, 2015
from 11:00-1:00 p.m. at the Round House. The fee is
$25.00 for the camp.

Jr. Cheerleading Camp: A cheerleading camp will be
offered for K-3rd grade students from July 25 - July 29,
2015 from 9am-11am at the Round House. The fee for the
camp is $25.00.
Pom Pom Camp: The camp will be held August 1 August 5, 2016 from 9am-11am at the Round House. The
fee is $25.00 for the camp.
Skate Camp: Age Groups - Children 8-12 & Children
13-15. Date: TBA Fee - $25.00 per Child

ATHLETIC LEAGUES
Adult Softball Leagues
The Recreation Department has many different types of
softball leagues available. All leagues will play 14 games
based on an 8-team schedule. In all leagues you must be at
least 18 years of age except Peanut and Rec. Open where
the age requirement is 16 years.
2016 Summer League registration will be taken during
the month of March. All leagues begin play during the first
week in May.

The Recreation Department will be hosting the following
tournaments at Emerick Sports Complex on 6th Street.
2016 Otto Rice Memorial Tournament - September 17th
Registration deadline is Friday September 9, 2016. Proceeds will go to the Otto Rice Scholarship
TRI-CITY SOCCER
East Alton, Roxana and Wood River have joined together
once again to form a Soccer League. Children ages 5-13 are
invited to participate. The registration fee is $35.00 and
includes a t-shirt. Games begin in September on Saturday
mornings and some weeknights. Registration ends July 31.
LIL-KICKERS SOCCER
The Wood River and Roxana Recreation Departments offer an Instructional Soccer program. Children
ages 3-4 are invited to participate. This program takes
place over four Saturday mornings. There will be 40
minutes of drills followed by a 5 minute game. The registration fee is $25.00 and includes a t-shirt. Watch for
registration in August. The Instructional Soccer program
is scheduled to begin in September.
INSTRUCTIONAL BASKETBALL CLINIC
This basketball program has been set up for Kindergarten & 1st grade children. It is designed to teach the
fundamentals and skills of basketball along with special
drills to help with coordination. Each participant receives
a completion ertificate. The registration fee is $25.00.
Registration begins in January. Clinic will start in March.

TRI-CITY YOUTH BASKETBALL LEAGUE
The Wood River, East Alton and Roxana Recreation
Departments offer the Tri-City Youth Basketball Program for
2nd-6th grade boys and girls. Registration runs from October
& November and the fee is $35.00 per participant. Games
begin in early January. Each participant receives a t-shirt.
TRI-CITY YOUTH BASEBALL & SOFTBALL
Registration runs for the entire month of March. Teams
are formed in late April and league play begins in May.
The following divisions are offered for a fee of $35.00
($5.00 late fee after registration date).

that will focus on teaching the basic skills and fundamentals of baseball/softball. Games will be played in
the evenings beginning the first week of June. Fee: $35.

WOOD RIVER COaCH PITCH LEaGUE
A Coach Pitch League for 6 & 7 year olds who are
ready to move up from the T-Ball League. Games will
be played in the evenings beginning the first week of

Hoedowners Square Dancers
The Wood River Square Dance Club was started by
Mayor Lucien Ringering 66 years ago. The club is the
oldest square dance club in existence in Illinois and has
always danced in the Round House. Square dancing is
good physical exercise for the body as well as the mind
for all ages. Social action with other people is an added
bonus. It is enjoyment & friendship set to music. A
new class will begin in September. Square Dance Lessons are offered for beginners on Thursday evenings at
the Round House from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. These lessons
begin in the fall and continue until summer. Meet new
people while having fun dancing.The first week of class
is free. See you there. Once you have completed lessons, you may be interested in joining the Hoedowners
on the 2nd & 4th Saturdays of each month for some
square dancing fun. They meet at 7:30 p.m. in the
Round House and invite other clubs and various guest
callers. You are welcome to visit a lesson or dance anytime to see how much fun square dancing can be.

Senior Adult Program 55+
Adults age 55 and over are invited to join in activities for an annual fee of $10.00. Meetings are held at 11
a.m. on the second Thursday of every month. After a
brief meeting a full meal is served catered by Chef Bob.
The cost per meal is $4.00. The price Chef Bob charges
is somewhat more depending on the price of food. A
generous gift of
$2,500.00 from the mayor and city council allows us
to charge the $4.00 amount. After paying the annual fee
of $10.00 each member is entitled to 4 meals without
paying. Lunch is provided for the following occasions:

After the meal is served bingo is played with each
winner awarded $2.00. The cost of the bingo is funded

The 31st Annual Wood River Triathlon, sponsored
by the Aquatic Center, starts with a swim at the Aquatic Center, followed by a bike ride and run through the
streets of Wood River. The race finishes in Central Park

trophies are awarded to each age group. It is scheduled

Municipal Band Concerts in the Park
The Municipal Band performs in Central Park on
Wednesday nights at 8:00 p.m. on June 8, 15, 22, 29 &
July 6, & 13. The will also be performing at the Ice Cream
Social on Sunday July 10.
SPECIAL EVENTS FOR CHILDREN
Easter Egg Hunt: A FREE Easter Egg Hunt is offered to
the children of Wood River residents ages toddler thru 5th
grade. There will be over 120 dozen eggs hidden, along
with some special prizes to be awarded to those finding
special eggs. Each child will also receive a bag of candy
from the Easter Bunny. Prizes are donated by Wood River
Area Merchants. Be sure to bring your camera!

Egg Hunt begins at 11:00 a.m.
Youth League Parade: Come on out and enjoy the opening day for the youth league. The annual Youth League
Parade will be held at the beginning of the season. This
parade consists of all youth league baseball/softball participants, Tri-City and Wood River Instructional League. The
parade will end at the Wood River Aquatic Center. Call

Wood River Parks and Recreation
Bike Ramble: Bring your kids for a safe and exciting
family night bike ride. Wood River Parks & Recreation is
co-sponsoring the 8th Annual Bike Ramble. The route
begins and ends at the Round House on Friday, June 3,
2016. The lineup is at 7:00 pm and the ride will start at
7:30pm. Once participants complete the bike ride the
Aquatic Center will be open for swimming. Register at the
Round House. Fee: $3 per person/ $6 per immediate family. Call 251-3130 for more information.

Wood River Parks & Recreation is co-sponsoring the 20th
Annual Dash and Splash at Wood River Aquatic Center on
Sunday, July 31, 2016. The dash is a one-mile run at the
East Alton-Wood River High School Track and the splash
follows as an open swim at the Aquatic Center. Registration is the day of at 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm Fee: $5 per child
for 14 & under and $8 per adult. Call 251-3130 for more

Halloween Party - The 31st annual Halloween Party
for children of Wood River residents up to 12 years of
age is being held on Monday, October 24, 2016. It runs
from 7:00-8:00 p.m. There will be games, entertainment,
a movie, goodies to eat and drink, plus a costume contest.
Parents will want to take advantage of this FREE event.
Breakfast With Santa: Join us at the Round House for
31st annual Breakfast with Santa and get into the Christmas spirit. Each breakfast includes: pancakes, sausages,
milk, juice and coffee. Adult and child plates are available.
The children have the chance to have their picture taken
with Santa. No reservations are required. Date: Saturday,
December 10, 2016 Time: 8:00-10:30 a.m.

The Aquatic Center is a complete water recreation complex located at 670 Whitelaw Ave. It is built for fun-filled
summer days. You can enjoy a variety of activities, whether your idea of a good time is swimming or just basking
in the sun. The Aquatic Center Water Complex consists
of: Twin four-story 320 foot water slides that end in a four
foot deep pool, a 50-meter lap pool, a separate diving well
with one and three meter diving boards, a wading pool
with a water umbrella and water rail apparatus for small
children, observation deck, men’s and women’s locker
rooms and concession stand.

Learn to Swim Program
The Aquatic Center conducts a complete series of public swimming lessons.
Students successfully completing a swim
course will receive Aquatic Center Certification Cards. Children must be 4 years of
age to enroll. All sessions will meet Monday thru Friday.
There are morning and evening classes
available.
Session I – June 13 - June 24
Session II – July 11 - July 22
Session III – July 25 - August 5
Adult Learn To Swim Program
This program is for adults wanting to
learn to swim or just improve their skills.
Times are to be arranged. Fee $30.00
Water Babies
This program is for children 8 months thru
4 years of age. Parents must accompany

Take your best shots at Belk
The golf course season officially opens
April 1st and ends October 31st. Play
continues throughout the fall and winter
seasons, weather permitting. Belk Park
offers tee reservations seven days a week.
