The State of the Union
The real estate and tourism markets here on the
16-mile Placencia peninsula continue to prosper. According to the Belize Tourism Board, 2014
saw an increase in tourism by 11.8% over 2013 and a spectacular 38% in just 3 years from 2011 to
2014! More and more beach homes are under
construction than ever before, beach lot inventory has dropped significantly
and prices have reacted
by increasing, two exciting luxury beach resorts have
broken ground after sitting idle for 10 years
and more and more amenities,
services, restaurants and activities (sky diving, chocolate making
tours,
zip-lining) are available. Our new private
tri-lingual elementary school has even expanded to
middle school and soon into high-school. There are entrepreneurs from around the world
moving
here as soon as they spend even
just a few days here. The Charm, Character and Buzz are simply

Leonardo DiCaprio Moves forward with his Island Eco Resort
Blackadore Caye in northern Belize was purchases by world-famous actor DiCaprio in 2005 and
development never got out of the ground after a deal with Four Seasons halted. On April 3, 2015
the New York Times published a lengthy article announcing the ground breaking of the project. Sure it is awesome that we have such significant celebrity and protector of the environment soon to
call Belize home but what I find most supporting is that he and his partner (Paul Scialla is a former

Placencia Lobster Fest 2015
This years’ Lobster fest was as everyone expected it to be, a blast. We had a fishing tournament, a
lionfish tournament, the cook-off, rum-punch competition and much more. The music was awesome,
the ambience was awesome and the crowd was awesome. The Benque Viejo Marching Band did a
spectacular parade through the main street of the Village and a not-to-be-forgotten presentation on
the beach later on that Saturday afternoon.
One of the most aromatic areas of the event was the food area. Lobster was on the Menu
everywhere and it was nothing less than delightful. There were lobster patties, lobster fritters,
lobster ceviche, lobster on a stick, Grilled lobster and much more lobster.
It was three nights of party. On Friday we had local DJ’s jamming, on Saturday we had Gilharry 7
Rocking and on Sunday we had the local Placencia Band closing off the events with a dance. It was
a wonderful weekend. Can’t wait for next year’s Lobsterfest.

More Direct Flights to Belize
Now here is some really exciting news. More and more airlines are signing up for direct flights to
Belize. Southwest Airlines will commence with direct flights from Hobby International airport in
October 2015. Not only will this result in more tourists but also cheaper airfare. United has
announced a Los Angeles fight and direct flights from San Francisco, Washington DC and Denver
are being discussed. Copal airlines out of Panama will also be flying to Belize. Many of the airlines
servicing Belize have also increased the number of flights so make sure you check all options when planning your next trip. New York (Newark), Chicago, Atlanta, Charlotte, Miami, Dallas,
Houston, Los Angeles, San Salvador (Taca Airlines) and Cancun (Belize’s Tropic Air) are all direct
