STOCKHOLM
Stockholm is a city of contrasts. Trends in music, design, fashion, and technology are born here,
and innovations that spread worldwide are invented here. Stockholm also has a rich history comprising
gorgeous architecture, museums, the Royal Palace and the medieval urban core of Gamla Stan.
Trendy bars and world-class restaurants are shoulder-to-shoulder with historic cafes and cozy
neighborhood pubs.
Stockholm is simultaneously urban and close to nature; water is an ever-present feature in this
city where lake and seameet. Parks and green areas abound, and the distinctive white archipelago
boats travel to the islands all year long. The atmosphere is open, tolerant and welcoming, and
diversity and innovation are encouraged. Stockholm is a city for everyone.
Sweden’s capital city spreads out over 14 islands in Lake Malaren and looks out proudly to the
Baltic Sea to the east. Her grand public buildings, palaces, rich cultural history and museums tell
her 700 year- old history beautifully.
Nowhere is this better illustrated than in the Old Town (Gamla Stan);
expect and get cobblestone streets, crooked but beautifully preserved
buildings, the Royal Palace, gothic churches and excellent cafes, bars,
restaurants and Swedish design-ware shops. Take our advice and get a
hit of caffeine at one of Stockholm’s many fine cafes before trawling the
boutiques, shops and stores of upscale Swedish and international design
boutiques of Ostermalm, and independent Swedish labels, vintage and
retro shops and boutiques of Sodermalm.

OLD CITY
Old Town (Gamla Stan) is the Stockholm’s original city centre
and consists of Stadsholmen island and the islets of Riddarholmen, Helgeandsholmen and Stromsborg. The Old Town dates
from the 13th century but most buildings are from the 17- and
1800s. It’s a glorious labyrinth of charming cobbled streets,
alleyways, faded mustard and rust coloured town houses and
meeting squares reflecting north German architecture.
The Riddarholm Church is the final resting place of the Swedish
kings and Stockholm’s only preserved medieval monastery
church. With the one exception of Queen Christina, all succeeding rulers of Sweden from Gustav II Adolf (d. 1632) to Gustaf V
(d. 1950) are buried in the Riddarholmen Church.
THE ROYAL PALACE
The Royal Palace of Stockholm is His Majesty The King’s official
residence. The palace is built in baroque style by the architect
Nicodemus Tessin and is formed as a Roman palace.
THE TREASURY
In dark cellar vaults at the Royal Palace the monarchy’s most
important symbols - the regalia - are kept in safe- keeping. Here
you can see Gustav Vasa’s sword of state, Erik XIV’s crown,
sceptre and orb and Lovisa Ulrika’s crown.
ROYAL ARMOURY
Discover the Swedish royal history. Each of the Royal Armoury’s
artefacts has an exciting story to tell about Swedish royals – in
war and peace. Seen from an international perspective the
collections are world-class.
