Welcome to the Institut Européen de Français
In 2005 the IMEF and the Odyssea French school joined to form the Institut Européen de
Français, offering a wide variety of French language courses.
The Institut Européen de Français welcomes students, professors, and professionals from
all over the world throughout the year. Classes sizes are small, the ambiance is both friendly and studious, conditionals are optimal and will allow you to make the most of your
French language study !
Situated in the historic center of Montpellier in a beautifully renovated 17th century
hôtel particulier, the Institut Européen de Français boasts spacious, sunny classrooms and
an environment particularly favorable to the study of language and culture in the South
of France.
Member of the CampusFrance agency, reference center for the Fle.fr professional
certification, and official testing center for the CCIP and the Université Paris IV Sorbonne, the Institut Européen de Français functions in accordance with numerous organizations and institutions, both public and private, throughout the world, including the
CNOUS, l’Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF), Egide, The European Union, and
the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, CSN (Sweden), Bildungsurlaub (Germany) …

Capital of the Languedoc-Roussillon region and numbering 250,000 inhabitants, Montpellier is an exciting and animated city with a young university population.

Personalized instruction in a convivial setting
Classes are organized by group level and your progress is evaluated each week. A certificate of French Studies is awarded to all those who participate and complete the coursework.
Optimal Organization
Group composition is reviewed each week and participants’ progress evaluated. You’ll
benefit from free access to the Resource Center and unlimited Wifi access. Desktop computers are also at your disposition.
Complementary Services
Upon your arrival : an information meeting, a guided visit of Montpellier, and an apéritif de
bienvenue. A cultural activities program, sports and excursions with professional guides are
offered every week.
More opportunity to learn : cultural conferences are offered every week and themed soirées are regularly planned.

The courses
PROGRAM
We offer a wide range of French courses adapted to your needs.
Our pedagogical method solicits students’ active participation and promotes intercultural
exchange. Instruction incorporates all linguistic activities (listening, reading, taking part in
conversation, oral presentations and written expression), with concentration on the receptive
skills needed to promote comprehension, and the productive skills of oral expression. With
the use of various supports (from authentic documents or “realia” to educational materials),
participants are provided access to the language in a manner both fun and practical, friendly
and motivating !
All educational and communicative criteria based on the CEFRL : Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Summer University - CampusFrance
July - August
For students, professionals, or adults (age 17 minimum) : our Summer University French
courses will allow you to perfect your French and accomplish your objectives, whether they apply to a degree program in your country, your professional aspirations, or personal goals.
The summer classes take place on a campus, just a few steps from the centre-ville. The
campus atmosphere is relaxed but studious and the classrooms are spacious.
Summer University program = 30 lessons of 45 minutes each per week :
20 morning French lessons, from Monday to Friday + 3 hours of conferences + 6 linguistic workshops per week, 3 afternoons per week.

The courses
Trainings for French teachers
You are a teacher of French as a Foreign Language (primary, secondary, or higher education)
in your own country : these trainings offer you the occasion to renew and perfect your pedagogical methods, together with French teachers from various countries.
A level B2 (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) is required to participate.
European Professors : This training is a Comenius and Grundtvig eligible program.
Pedagogical Organization :
A total of 25 hours per week including :
Morning modules : 3 hours every morning, Monday through Friday
Afternoon workshops : 2-hour workshops, 3 times per week.
Civilization conferences : 1 hour and 30 minutes Mondays and Wednesdays, and 1 hour
Fridays.
Access to the Resource Center, including Wifi internet connection.

training.
These specific training courses are offered all year round to individuals or groups and are
tailored to your needs and requirements.

Programs for Juniors and Groups :
All year round the Institut Européen de Français offers programs which aim to perfect French
language skills, in concert with partners in the education field.
Each program is developed in accordance with the needs and expectations of the participants.
Typical program for Juniors :
- Morning French courses : systematic training in expression and oral comprehension, use of
every-day documents, lexical structures of the language, and pedagogical excursions around
the city.
- Preparation for the DELF and DAL, the Arbitur, and the Baccalauréat International
- Preparation and exams for Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Paris certificates
- Afternoon cultural activities and week end excursions : cultural visits and discoveries of Montpellier, of the Languedoc region and Provence, sporting activities, academic meet-and-greets,
linguistic clubs, cuisine, traditional dances, singing, drawing, wine or cheese-tastings, ... (detailed
program available on command).
- Accommodation in a Homestay : bed-and-breakfast formula, half-pension, or full pension.

These accommodations, selected with care by our team, are bound by a quality contract
with the Institut Européen de Français.
Homestay accommodation (bed-and-breakfast formula or half-board formula)
Ideal for total immersion, a Homestay accommodation allows you to discover the culture and the rhythm of life “à la française”, and will result in a more rapid progression of
your French language skills.
We offer two formulas :
Bed and Breakfast : individual bedroom and breakfast 7 days per week.
Half-board : single room with breakfast and dinner 7 days per week.
Shared Apartment
In this type of accommodation, you’ll meet participants from the 4 corners of the world
and be able to share your experience with them. It’s also the least expensive option. You’ll
have a private bedroom and share the kitchen, dining room, and the bathroom with other
occupants.
Villas Boutonnet
Modern and friendly, the Villa Boutonnet is located 10 minutes from the city center, and
just steps away from tramway. The Villa Boutonnet is a beautifully renovated establishment, where you’ll have a single or double room, and a shared kitchen and bathroom.
Résidence appart’hôtel **
This residence is situated in a calm and residential neighborhood, 15 minutes from
the centre-ville by tramway. Apartments are entirely equipped : air conditioning, Wifi
connection available, television, reception desk, breakfast for a supplemental fee. Towels
and bed linens furnished.
Private apartment
These private apartments are entirely equipped. In a private apartment, you’ll lodge in
comfort and feel right at home ! Towels and bed linens are furnished.
University Residence or Cité Universitaire
The university residence is situated in a popular neighborhood, close to a park and just
a short walk from the city center … convivial atmosphere guaranteed ! Bedding is furnished.
University Residence formula : individual room with private shower and toilet.
Cité Universitaire formula : individual room with breakfast. Shared showers and toilets.

Cultural activities and excursions at the

them by taking part in the excursions and cultural activities offered by the Institut Européen
de Français !

All Year Round
During your stay in Montpellier, we are pleased to offer you a rich and varied program of cultural activities and excursions, associating the practice of the language with a living discovery of
the natural, social, and human environment.
As part of your stay, you can take advantage of a free guided tour of Montpellier each week.
The activities which are offered “à la carte” vary depending on the period : guided tours, excursions to cities and sites within the Languedoc, film outings, performances, sports, wine tasting,
singing, pottery, traditional dances …
July and August
For the formula Summer University (July and August), the program is offered for an additional
charge and features cultural activities during the week and weekend excursions.
The Activities and Excursions program can also be purchased separately from coursework and
accommodations; payment is due at the time of your registration at the Institut Européen de
Français-before your arrival.
