General Directions
This quilt features a variety of colors and fabrics that can
give every block a different appearance with a few block
patterns. Make each block from a slightly different set of
color-coordinated fabrics and no two will look alike. To get
the pictured look, make the star blocks bright and the background blocks lighter.
There are 4 star block patterns. Use these to make a total
of 16 star blocks. As shown, there are 5 red, 6 violet, and
5 blue star blocks.
There are 3 light background block patterns and 3 light
background half-block patterns. Use these to make a total
of 9 background blocks and 12 background half-blocks.
Make the light corner block pattern 4 times.
For the stars, use mostly medium and/or bright fabrics, especially on the outside edges of the blocks. Use just one or two
light fabrics for the interior or the points of the stars. For the
background and inset blocks use mostly light fabrics with
just one or two medium and/or bright fabrics for sparkle.
To construct the quilt, sew the blocks together. Using
6369-01, add a 2˝ border to the top and bottom and sides to
complete the top. (Measure the center before cutting your
borders; the top and bottom should be 21⁄2˝ × about 851⁄2˝,
and the sides should be 21⁄2˝ × about 891⁄2˝). Layer, pin, and
quilt as desired. Use 6369-02 for the binding.
There are 16 unit diagrams (A-P). Use these units to
construct the blocks. Each block has a block map and an
example of fabric placement. If you’d like to match the quilt
exactly, follow the fabric placement chart for each star.
BLOCK CONSTRUCTION
Each star block measures 15 ˝ × 15 ˝ finished (151⁄2 ˝ × 15 1⁄2 ˝
unfinished) and mixes and matches 3 smaller 5˝ × 5˝
(finished) blocks.
