General Information
Academy is a
college preparatory
REGISTRATION: Students are admitted on a first-come, first-served basis. Many
opportunities
programs have limited enrollment; therefore, we recommend that you register no later
than two weeks prior to the beginning of the program in which you are interested. Instructors reserve the right to cancel any program due to insufficient enrollment. If this
happens, you will be contacted at least one week before that program, and your entire
tuition will be refunded. All programs meet Monday through Friday unless otherwise
indicated.

Costs and Fees: All camps cost $160 (supply fee included) with the exception of the

This fee is non-refundable. After Care is $100 per child per week or $25 per day. This

Dress: Students should dress appropriately for the program in which they are enrolled.
Bare feet are not permitted in the buildings. Dress should always be in good taste. Water bottles and sunscreen are suggested supplies for outdoor camps. Closed toe shoes
are required.
Insurance: Fayetteville Academy carries a comprehensive general liability policy, but
parents are responsible for their child's accident and health policies.
Admissions Policy: The Academy does not discriminate on the basis of race, color,

policies, financial aid, athletic programs, or oher activities. Applications for Summer
Odyssey are accepted from all students, regardless of where they are enrolled during

This service is for parents who need to drop off their child(ren) before
camps begin. If you drop them off before 8:15 am, you will be charged
the $20.00 fee. This fee is paid weekly, and we cannot accept daily
payments. If you are not using the before care service, drop-off for
camps begins at 8:15 am.

Enjoy this mini-camp learning about the heart. Students will learn how the heart works, parts
of the heart, and dissect a pig’s heart on Friday. Students will observe heart tissue under the

We will make crafts from different countries in the world. Travel with us and create a Mexican
piñata, a Puerto Rican carnival mask, Guatemalan worry dolls, a Chilean loom bag, Spanish
fans, Chinese umbrellas, Guatemalan bark paintings, and more!

Come learn the fundamentals of baseball! We will work on throwing, catching, fielding, and
game plays as well as techniques to become a great team player.

Duct Tape Engineering Jr.
Instructor: Michelle Berrisford
Grades: K—3
Campers will explore the versatility of duct tape by making and testing items constructed exclusively out of duct tape. We will do many fun projects with duct tape that campers will be able to
keep. Projects may include duct tape wallets, bookmarks, and duct tape boats (and seeing if we
can make them float on water). If you participated last year don’t worry! We will be doing new projects as well! Join this Jr. camp for projects which will be less frustrating for smaller hands!

Tennis Camp

Grades: 2—6
Get in the game! Learn the fundamental skills of tennis such as forehand, backhand, volley, and
serve. The camp will include lots of contests and fun lead-up games. The skills and drills taught
are part of the USTA program. Get your child involved in a lifetime sport.
Fort Box 2.0 Camp
Instructors: Ms. Reavis and Mrs. Reeves

Come join Mrs. Reeves and Ms. Reavis for Fort Box 2.0! Students will begin the day with a
“building/craft” activity and then work collaboratively to construct and build using various materials. We will begin the week by using newspapers to build a “stick” structure, then we will move
to “tents”, then to cardboard boxes. On the last day of camp we will have a “Fort Party”!
*Students need to bring on the first day: 1 large sheet, 2 cardboard boxes (big enough to sit in),
and toilet paper and paper towel rolls (as many as you want).

Creative Writing / College Application Camp
Instructor: MaryMelda Kizer
Grades: Rising 12th graders / 11th graders if space is available
This camp is designed to get students thinking and writing creatively, with a special emphasis on
college applications. Marymelda Kizer, the current FA Librarian, also taught 9th, 10th, and 11th
grade English at Fayetteville Academy for ten years. She has her undergraduate and Master’s degrees in English Education from UNC-Chapel Hill, where she attended as a Morehead Scholar. Students who participate in the camp will also have access to Mrs. Kizer for help with college essays
throughout the school year.

Enjoy a week of learning different games from different countries as we travel the globe on this fun
filled competition and have daily competitions with the games from different areas of the world.
Glow Camp

Are you ready to GLOW in the dark? In this fun camp we will make many crafts that glow in the
dark and will have fun turning out the lights and using black lights! Campers will learn how to make
various glow in the dark items and will be able to take crafts home along with instructions to repeat these processes at home. We will also be decorating T-shirts with various GLOW paint!

books by Ed Emberley. Each day campers will be introduced to the day’s theme. They will learn

practice, they will use what they have learned to create a full-page drawing. Students will go home
at the end of the week with a portfolio of their work and lots of good memories.

Robotics Programming Camp

Grades : 4 and up
Learn to program our EV3 Lego® Robot. New users and experienced programmers will enjoy this week of robotics programming fun. You can start from “What is a Robot? And how
do I give it instructions” to completing more complex “Missions” (or challenges) that vary
according to individual camper’s capabilities. You will work as a team and/or as individuals –
whatever works for you. This camp is for anyone interested in programming a robot. It is
not just for FA Robotics Team members although they are welcome to attend for additional
programming experience.
Boredom Busters

Have you ever been so bored that you couldn’t even come up with anything to do to fix your
boredom? Have you wasted hours telling your mom that you were bored? Come spend the
week making and playing indoor games you can re-create at home, doing cool science experiments and discovering how to turn a boring day into something fun. Your imagination
will run wild, and you’ll never be bored again!

Kids’ Dramatix: Greek Drama- Tales From Mt. Olympus

Join us as we explore the world of Zeus and the Gods of Mt. Olympus! Discover how this ancient
civilization has influenced us today. Experience Greek Mythology and Greek Drama through
games, activities, and improvisations. Experiment with acting in masks. Prepare for battle like a
Spartan, and be a part of bringing an ancient myth to life!

Red, White, Blue and YOU!

activities goes on and on!

Enjoy all the Disney fun there is to offer. Each day we will explore a different Disney favorite movie
learning the songs, making Disney treats and our own Disney characters. The camp will conclude
with a Disney-themed party and making our very own Mickey Mouse ears!
Sherlock Holmes Camp

In this camp we will be solving mysteries and stopping crime! Find all the clues to catch the cat burglar and return the stolen ancient artifact!! Join us to have fun catching and stopping the bad guys!
Alien Camp

Come blast off with Mrs. Reeves and Ms. Reavis for a fun week of Alien activities that are out of this
world! We will read stories, create aliens with various art media and even make spaceships! The

Help us bring a book to life! Come explore the process of producing a show from a simple story.
Create simple costumes and scenery, and watch how a story transforms from the page to the
stage— all Pete the Cat style!
Handbell Boot Camp
Instructor: Donald Warren
Grades: 3 and up
Learn about music while playing a giant human “piano!” Spend a week taking part in a crashcourse introduction to playing English handbells, including learning music-reading skills that
are specific to handbell music. Handbells are specialized instruments that are played by a
group instead of an individual musician, making ringing a fun challenge for music-savvy students. Students should have a few basic music reading skills, such as being familiar with the
line and space names and note values. (Need 4, 6 or 9-11 participants. Other combinations
won’t work.)

Do you like mysteries? Do you have to know what happened at the end? Then Mystery Camp at
Summer Odyssey is a unique week that you will enjoy! Decode drawings, solve riddles, become
a private eye and have fun performing spy activities. Campers will go on scavenger hunts and
perform spy activities each day.

We will share healthy snacks, make crafts, and even have a Garden Party!
Anyone Can Paint Watercolor Camp
Instructor: Ms. Reavis
Grades: 2– 6
Come join Ms. Reavis and Paint, Paint, Paint! Campers will learn about watercolor paints and
how to use them. We will work with basic techniques to create step-by step paintings. At the end
of the week we will have an art show in the Alumni Fine Arts Gallery.
Origami Camp
Instructor: Mrs. Reeves
Grades: 3– 6
Come learn the ancient art of paper folding (Origami) with Mrs. Reeves! This is a fun camp designed to help children learn problem solving in a fun and creative way. We will begin the week
with simple and basic folds, then work our way up to folding different characters. This camp is
great for students who love to solve puzzles. By the end of the week campers will be sent home
with a folder full of work and an abundance of knowledge.

Looking to refine your acting skills? Join us for our Monologue Workshop where we explore
character development through improvisation, voice and body work, and more! Participants

Robotics Programming Camp

Learn to program our EV3 Lego® Robot. New users and experienced programmers will enjoy
this week of robotics programming fun. You can start from “What is a Robot? And how do I give
it instructions” to completing more complex “Missions” (or challenges) that vary according to
individual camper’s capabilities. You will work as a team and/or as individuals – whatever works
for you. This camp is for anyone interested in programming a robot. It is not just for FA Robotics Team members although they are welcome to attend for additional programming experience.
Recycled Art Camp

We’ll make art from other people’s trash. Do you want to help the environment while being creative? This camp’s for you! Make a fish out of a bottle, make wind chimes out of household items.

be invited to our Film Festival on Friday!
Jump Start to Chemistry

Get a head start to success in chemistry! Learn some basic vocabulary terms and the periodic table and the unique elements that make up all matter. Practice working in our chemistry lab each

crafts and activities of all kinds – specially formulated for the girl in all of us. Make your own
soap, lip gloss, and sugar scrubs, receive make-up tips and info on how to care for your skin,
and enjoy manicures and pedicures. Learn to knit with your hands to make scarfs and/or
make jewelry out of recycled materials. How do you do a French Braid or fix your hair in some
fancy “updo” you ask? We’ll learn that too! The list of activities goes on and on!

Have you ever wanted to learn how to make a massive motorized LEGO machine? Our Play Well
Engineering instructors guide students in this advanced Play-Well engineering camp, as they reengineer standard LEGO vehicles into mechanized machines that can traverse challenging obstacles, battle against fellow bots, and take on Play-Well Instructors’ colossal creations.
Advanced Duct Tape Engineering

Grades: 3—6
Campers will explore the versatility of duct tape by making and testing different items constructed
exclusively out of duct tape. We will do many fun projects with duct tape that campers will be able
to keep. Projects may include duct tape wallets, bookmarks, and duct tape boats (and seeing if we
can make them float on water). If you participated last year, don’t worry! We will be doing new projects as well! Join this advanced camp for more challenging and rewarding projects! Each camper
must bring three rolls of the duct tape of their choosing.

Students who already play a musical instrument will enjoy the challenge of learning to play an
ensemble instrument! While introducing students to English handbells, this camp will work
with students who read music, either instrumentally or vocally, by exploring how handbell playing sharpens skills, reflexes, and musicianship through intermediate and advanced ringing. This camp is best suited for students who have had about a year of music, whether band,
