English 379F: Fitzgerald and
Hemingway on Film
Likely films include a silent move clip (from 1926) and four versions of The Great Gatsby
(starring Alan Ladd, Robert Redford and Mia Farrow, and Leonardo DiCaprio and Carrey
Mulligan, respectively; plus a hiphop adaptation directed by Christopher Scott Cherot);
and other Fitzgerald and Hemingway film adaptations starring Robert DeNiro, Gary
Cooper, Ingrid Bergman, and Paul Newman. Course begins with a screening of Woody
Allen’s Midnight in Paris (2011).
