•BANGKOK New Production of a classic: „Faust“ conquers Thailand „Goethe rocks“: Modern Interpretation through the greatest hits No doubt: Johann Wolfgang Goethes „Faust“ ist THE classic play on stage. „the first part of the Tragedy“, better known as „Faust I“ is one of the most important and most quoted classics in German literature. forms Faust back to being a young man, takes him to a „Highway to Hell“ (AC/DC) at Auerbachs Cellar to get completely drunk. Mephisto helps him to get the love of the young virgin Margarete (known as Gretchen). She becomes his „Sex Bomb“ (Tom Jones). And many know the classic from school, have seen it in stageproductions, have loved or hated it. From 4 th to 6 th February, the renowned Swiss „SternTheater“, in Cooperation with the Swiss Embassy and the Goethe-Institute, will bring the brilliant but controversial production to the legendary Patravti-Theatre in Bangkok. The cultural February-highlight The modern interpretation of the German classic treats the somehow outdated „Faust“ with all kinds of humorous slapsticks and brings a fresh 21st century-breeze to the old play. The actor/director Daniel Rohr describes some scenes as „slightly shortened“. Others say, his interpretation does not pay much respect to the original… But everybody, including Goethe-Fans, can look forward to a modern version that – in combination with Evergreens and Greatest Hits – will rock the house in Bangkok. Heinrich Faust is a renown researcher and teacher. Like many, he takes stock of his life and comes to the deeply distressing conclusion that even he as a researcher is lakking any deeper insight and useful results. He feels that as a human being he is not able to enjoy his life to the full. And so, the desperate Faust sings the Rolling Stones Hit „I can’t get no satisfaction“. He promises his sole to the devil if he succeeds to make him lose his dissatisfaction and restlessness. True to the motto: „Sex, Drugs and Rock’n’Roll“ Faust agrees to a contract, a pact. He also convinces us as „Gretchen“: The multi-talented Swiss actor Daniel Rohr. A great fun fort he whole family. Besides the most talented Munich actor Silvester von Hösslin, who plays Faust’s mystery with full dedication, Daniel Rohr’s acting talent shines through. He plays three different characters in a most amusing way. Be it the frivolous Gretchen, the dark Mephisto or the pleasant poodle; he doesn’t leave a dry eye left. The multi-talented Swiss actor sweeps people off their feet. He has acted on stage, in several movies, on Swiss and German TV and has other theatrical productions, for example „Zappa“, To the Dark Side of the Moon” – a dedication to Pink Floyds legendary concept album.
