New Production of a classic: „Faust“ conquers Thailand
„Goethe rocks“: Modern Interpretation through the greatest hits
No doubt: Johann Wolfgang
Goethes „Faust“ ist THE
classic play on stage. „the
first part of the Tragedy“,
better known as „Faust I“ is
one of the most important
and most quoted classics in
German literature.
forms Faust back to being a
young man, takes him to a
„Highway to Hell“ (AC/DC)
at Auerbachs Cellar to get
completely drunk. Mephisto
helps him to get the love of
the young virgin Margarete
(known as Gretchen). She
becomes his „Sex Bomb“
(Tom Jones).
And many know the classic from school, have seen
it in stageproductions, have
loved or hated it.
From 4 th to 6 th February, the renowned Swiss „SternTheater“, in Cooperation with
the Swiss Embassy and the
Goethe-Institute, will bring
the brilliant but controversial
production to the legendary
Patravti-Theatre in Bangkok.

The modern interpretation
of the German classic treats
the somehow outdated „Faust“
with all kinds of humorous
slapsticks and brings a fresh
21st century-breeze to the old
play. The actor/director Daniel
Rohr describes some scenes as
„slightly shortened“. Others
say, his interpretation does not
pay much respect to the original… But everybody, including
Goethe-Fans, can look forward
to a modern version that – in
combination with Evergreens
and Greatest Hits – will rock
the house in Bangkok.

But what is the story about?
Heinrich Faust is a renown
researcher and teacher. Like
many, he takes stock of his
life and comes to the deeply
distressing conclusion that
even he as a researcher is lakking any deeper insight and
useful results. He feels that as
a human being he is not able
to enjoy his life to the full.
And so, the desperate Faust
sings the Rolling Stones Hit „I
can’t get no satisfaction“. He
promises his sole to the devil
if he succeeds to make him
lose his dissatisfaction and
restlessness.
True to the motto: „Sex,
Drugs and Rock’n’Roll“ Faust
agrees to a contract, a pact.

He also convinces us as „Gretchen“: The multi-talented
Swiss actor Daniel Rohr. A great fun fort he whole family.
Besides the most talented
Munich actor Silvester von
Hösslin, who plays Faust’s
mystery with full dedication,
Daniel Rohr’s acting talent
shines through. He plays
three different characters in a
most amusing way. Be it the
frivolous Gretchen, the dark
Mephisto or the pleasant
poodle; he doesn’t leave a dry
eye left. The multi-talented
Swiss actor sweeps people off
their feet. He has acted on
stage, in several movies, on
Swiss and German TV and has
other theatrical productions,
for example „Zappa“, To the
Dark Side of the Moon” – a
dedication to Pink Floyds
legendary concept album.
This show is an unforgettable experience. Don’t
miss this!
