• Spoilage from Power Outage (PB 04 15) This endorsement provides coverage only
for spoilage of perishable stock, including change in temperature or humidity,

to trigger the interruption of service.

Printers
51
Printers Program
The Allied Printers program for commercial printers is designed for the third
party printer and provides flexible, comprehensive coverage at a reasonable cost.
Major printing processes are letterpress, lithography, gravure, and flexography.
Offset printing contains the largest share of the printing industry’s dollar volume.
Lithographic, or offset, printing has gradually replaced letterpress and is now the
most widely used printing process.
Key Underwriting Guidelines:
• Coverage may be provided only for those commercial printers doing printing jobs
for third parties.
• The program is not available for publishers and newspaper and/or “shopper”
publishers.
• The program is not available for printers with annual gross sales exceeding
$10,000,000.
• Proper and frequent disposal of waste in approved containers is highly desirable.
Flammable liquids should be stored in approved safety cans, and residues should
not be dumped into normal drains or sewers.
• Housekeeping and general maintenance should be average or better, especially
in any paper storage or binding areas of the plant. The general public, including
customers, should not have access to any work areas.
• There should be adequate ventilation, particularly at floor level, to prevent the
collection of vapors. Ventilation ducts should be cleaned regularly.
• All equipment should be bonded and grounded, and presses should be equipped
with static eliminators.
• Adequate quality control of printed material is of extreme importance. Production
documents should be kept up to date.
• Customers should proofread and approve material prior to final printing. The
customer contract should include a hold harmless agreement, if at all possible.
• If the insured subcontracts any printing jobs, the insured should require the
subcontractor to carry adequate insurance, including errors and omissions liability
coverage.

Commercial Package—
Property & General Liability
Our company has a broad appetite for commercial business which is why we offer
a Comprehensive Package Policy in addition to our Premier Businessowners Policy
and Allied Target Programs. Our Package has a broad selection of classes, discounted
pricing tools and the ability to tailor coverage to each unique business. You can build
a customized policy from scratch using a combination of ISO coverage forms and
endorsements and expand the coverage by adding our Plus endorsements and other
endorsements offered only by Allied Insurance.
Risk Selection:
You, our agents, play a major role in the underwriting process. We rely on you to
provide much of the information needed in risk selection and pricing. We appreciate
your suggestions to our underwriters. Often your personal knowledge of the
insured and the operations is more important than all other information we are able
to develop. We base selection and pricing on individual risk characteristics.
The following basic points are among those considered:
• Location: suitability for operations
• Exposures: hazards presented by surrounding property
• Construction: appropriateness for operations; possible contribution of building
material or design to loss
• Occupancy: hazards; susceptibility to damage
• Protection: public or private efforts taken to prevent or reduce loss
• Management: experience, capability, cooperation
• Maintenance: care taken to preserve property
• Housekeeping: efforts to keep premises clean, orderly and free of unnecessary
hazards
• Business Potential: probability of success sufficient that continuation of operations
is desirable and affordable
• Loss Experience: frequency, cause and severity of claims; action taken where
possible to prevent recurrence.
• Rates: adequacy of premium possible within our filings
64
Commercial Property
Valuation:
We require all buildings to be insured to the proper value.
• Actual Cash Value: The amount it would cost to repair or replace covered property,
at the time of loss or damage, with material of like kind and quality, subject to a
deduction for deterioration, depreciation and obsolescence.
• Replacement Cost Coverage: Current rules in most states permit writing
Replacement Cost Coverage on buildings and most contents. We are willing to
provide Replacement Cost Coverage on most accounts so long as the amounts of
insurance are sufficient to approximate replacement cost and the property insured
has use value.
• Agreed Amount: Current rules in most states permit use of the Agreed Amount
Endorsement. We are willing to provide coverage on this basis if amounts of
insurance equal replacement cost. Please refer to underwriting.
