Brenden’s Ride - September 17, 2016
Cloverdale to Squamish
19 year old Brenden has spent seven summers at Camp Squamish and knows
firsthand that he has benefited from attending camp and believes that every
child with a disability should get the opportunity to attend. He believes in
the benefits so much that he approached his dad with an idea to raise funds
for his favorite camp – a motorcycle ride. From that idea grew Brenden’s Ride
for Easter Seals – a motorcycle fundraiser where participants make the scenic
ride from Cloverdale to Camp Squamish. Once at the camp, participants relax
from their journey with an amazing barbeque while enjoying live music and
activities.

The Cause
Easter Seals Camps
On average, over 800 children and young adults with disabilities from all over BC attend a one-week
camping session at one of three Easter Seals camps located across BC – Shawnigan Lake on Vancouver
Island, Squamish near Vancouver and Winfield in the Okanagan. It’s because of fundraising events that the
BC Lions Society is able to operate the camping program at a minimal cost to the families, many of whom are
already financially burdened by the costs associated with raising a child with special needs.
Easter Seals House
Easter Seals House is a welcoming place for out-of-town families to stay when their children undergo
medical treatment in Vancouver. The House, located just blocks from BC’s Children’s Hospital, has 49 self
contained suites with kitchenettes. For many families even a basic hotel room is often not an option they
can afford during their sometimes long stays. Each year the House provides over 30,000 beds to families
requiring short and long term accommodation.
