ABOUT OUR CLUB – SYNOPSIS ON PURPOSE AND GOALS
The Sleepy Hollow German Shorthaired Pointer Club is a “not for profit” Breed
Specific Dog Club. We were founded in 1988 by a small unit of very dedicated GSP
people. Throughout the years, we have grown to expand our horizons as we continue to
promote the health and welfare of the Versatile GSP.
The Sleepy Hollow GSPC, is an American Kennel Club Sanctioned Specialty Breed
Club. SHGSPC is also a member club of the German Shorthaired Pointer Club of
America. We promote the responsible breeding of the purebred GSP. We urge members
and breeders to accept the standard of the breed approved by the American Kennel Club,
as the only standard of excellence. The SHGSP Club conducts Sanctioned Specialty
Breed Shows, Obedience Trials, and Field Events held under the Rules and Regulations
of the American Kennel Club.
Our Club is about… Good Sportsmanship - Our members, their enjoyment of the sport
and willingness of their dogs. Education - Learning through the exchange of knowledge
within the membership.

Has your dog forgotten his manners or gained some holiday weight? If your New
Year’s resolution includes making healthier choices, chances are your dog could
benefit from the lifestyle change as well. Start the year off right by resolving to
do more with your dog in 2015.
Start your puppy off on the right foot with a training class. Training classes teach
basic manners and socialization needed to help both dog and owner to be a
responsible member of society, not to mention that training is a great way for
dogs to bond with their owners.
Train for competitive events. Agility, Obedience and Rally competitions are a fun
and rewarding experience for all dogs. You’ll meet new people with a similar love
for dogs and watch your pup grow into a well-behaved, even tempered, physically
fit companion.
Party at the VanBlarcum House!
The Sleepy Hollow German Shorthaired Pointer Club, Inc.
Dogs love helping others. Dogs are invaluable in providing service to humans visiting the sick, helping the disabled, locating missing persons, and much more.

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE – DENISE AVERY
Greetings SHGSPC members. Some of you have heard the following, it is basically my “speech” from the Harvest Awards
Dinner, held on Saturday, November 1st at Schlesinger’s Steak House in New Windsor, which by the way, was a lovely evening
with a very nice turnout.
I wish to express my gratitude to the membership for the various ways you offer your support, by attending meetings so that we
have a quorum, those who chair or serve on committees or the board of directors, those who coordinate and run our raffles and
hospitality at events, those who pitch in at shows and hunt tests, those who donate trophies.
My thanks to Charlie Mallory for coordinating the dinner, ensuring we had good weather :) and for everything else he does,
including keeping a close eye on the club finances and ensuring all our fees are filed on time.
I’m pleased to have the opportunity to acknowledge someone I have not thanked publicly before, Detta Andreana. She is
responsible for the very thing that really holds the club together, this newsletter and club correspondence. Being spread out as we
are, she keeps us all up to speed via the newsletter, the website and email blasts… of course I will also use this to remind each and
every one of you once again to take advantage of free publicity, please send anything newsworthy or of interest to Detta for
publishing.
And last, but not least, I must mention Sandy Clark, my hero as far as this club goes. As Vice President, she makes me look like
I’m doing a good job by doing behind the scene work and keeping me on top of things. Sandy is my “Club Member of the Year”.
The premise for the Harvest Awards Dinner came from a couple of directions:
1. The Holiday Dinner which seemingly continued to fall victim to crazy weather and lack of participation due to the prox imity to the holidays.
And
2. A need for an event where we could gather and celebrate the very reason for the connection we have, our German Short haired Pointers, and the various accomplishments and awards some of us strive for. An event where we are enjoying our selves rather than working an event as we do at Specialty Shows or Hunt Tests.
I would like to take this affair a step or so further, and we have had some discussion in the past about this, I would like to see
Annual Club Awards, perhaps along the lines of Show Dog of the Year, Field Dog of The Year, Obedience or Performance Dog of
the Year and even Club Member of the Year. If the membership agrees, we can form a committee to develop a points system so
that these awards can be fair and objective. Please feel free to contact me with any ideas or thoughts on this subject.
HUNT TEST COMMITTEE MEETING
A Hunt Test Committee Meeting is scheduled to be held Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at the Gander Mountain Community
Room in Middletown, NY at 6PM.
The purpose of this meeting is to form the committee, look at options for the 2015 Hunt Test and set the date. All members
interested in serving on the committee are encouraged to attend.
Please contact Denise Avery if you will be attending (845-283-1103 or 845-647-7162 or [email protected]) as this meeting
will be rescheduled in the event of hazardous weather.

HARVEST AWARDS DINNER 2014
Photos provided by Charles Mallory, dinner coordinator extraordinaire. Thank you Charley for a fabulous evening at Schlesingers
in November.
Great company, conversation and food, door prize, awards (naturally) and the overall camaraderie of the membership, the only
thing missing was our dogs! Congratulations to everyone on their accomplishments throughout 2014. Looking forward to next
year.
