PRESS KIT ABOUT THE GLAMAZONS Glam History: Founded by Meryl Sherwood, The Glamazons started performing in 2001 in NYC clubs including CBGB’s, Fez, The Roxy, Webster Hall, The Supper Club and The Rainbow Room. They came to fame in season 2 of the NBC hit show "America's Got Talent". The girls have toured all over the world. Highlights include; Italy, Key West, Los Angeles, New York City, and headlining in Branson, MO for a show featuring the Top 10 acts from “America’s Got Talent” at the Dutton Family Theatre. They were televised singing the "National Anthem” for the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings October 28th game against the Philadelphia Eagles. In spring 2008, they were fashion campaign supermodels for Torrid’s 2008 Spring Collection, had life size posters in 250 stores nationwide and were featured in Bust, Seventeen, and Glamour Magazine. The Glamazons have been seen on Access Hollywood, Entertainment Tonight, The Insider, WNYW’s Good Day New York. WPIX’s CW 11 morning news, and WNBC’s LX New York. In 2010, they were featured on the Style network’s show “Whose Wedding is it Anyway?” as they toured the east coast promoting their album and planning Meryl "Lady Finger" Sherwood’s wedding! The girls also opened for Joan Rivers at Milwaukee’s Gay Pride, danced in "Broadway Bares XX1: Masterpiece", a benefit Broadway Cares, appeared at The Shubert Theatre on Broadway for a benefit for Disney’s “Only Make Believe” foundation hosted by Sir Ian McKellen and for three years in a row apart of Scott Nevin's (BRAVO) holiday show "Sparkle" to benefit The Actors Fund. The Glamazons headlined The 40th Annual NYC Village Halloween Parade (PIX11), Full Figured Fashion Week, and the Original GLBT EXPO at The Javits Convention Center in NYC, recorded an original song "Hot Mess" with Drag Superstars Sherry Vine and Bianca Del Rio (RuPaul's Drag Race), and starred in a music video for Margaret Cho and Adam Barta's new single "See U Next Tuesday" (available on itunes), performed for White Plains Pride, opened for Thelma Houston at Capital Pride in Albany, NY, and were also the faces of Eddy & Bri (eddyandbri.com), headlined at the Yotel Hotel Circus Brunch, and Runway The Real Way. Most recently The Glamazons were featured and on the cover of Full Blossom Magazine, Funk The Formula Magazine, Volup2 Magazine, and Bleep Magazine. For 8 weeks in a row, 25 million viewers watched and voted for the Glamazons. Their mission to show the world that talent comes in all sizes hasn't changed, but the group has evolved. It is now the new generation-Tina Jensen, Kenya Morris, Emma Craig, and Megan Allen-that make up this unbelievably dynamic group. The Glamazons are strong, sexy, curvaceous, songstresses who have traveled the world promoting body positivity while busting out their signature dance moves. Fashion forward, innovative, revolutionary, a radio ready pop group sensation: The Glamazons. meet the glamazons Tina Tina grew up performing in small town Hopkins, Minnesota and by the time she was eighteen she escaped to New York City to pursue her dreams. Tina graduated from The Perpich Center for Arts Education (music major), The American Musical and Dramatic Academy (musical theatre), and The Yale Cabaret Conference (Singer's Symposium). She most recently originated the role of Kate in the Off-Broadway production of Cuff Me: The Unauthorized Fifty Shades of Grey Musical Parody. She has starred Off-Broadway and toured internationally with Girl's Night: The Musical and Girl Talk: The Musical. Currently she is understudying Off-Broadway for Sistas: The Musical and works as a plus model. Tina is beyond grateful and proud to be a Glamazon---If there was a group like The Glamazons when Tina was a kid---her life would have been a lot easier! A sense of humor and dedication to performance saved Tina's life and becoming a Glamazon is like a cherry on top the cake! Leading The Glams has become Tina's passion as she also acts as the group's creative director. Emma Emma is (insert cheeky adjective here) to be one of the glammies! She hails from Wichita Kansas, loves animals of all kinds and David Bowie. Jazz and punk are among Emma's favorite genres of music. Emma has been doing theatre since the age of five and had her own cover band called "Emma in the men's room". She most recently performed as Tracy Turnblad in the production of Hairspray at the Crown Uptown in Kansas. You should also google Art Brut Films recent production of "PANTS" which won multiple awards at the Tallgrass film festival. She hopes to someday have a daytime talkshow; be famous in Korea and start a theatre company for kids with special needs. Emma recently made a rad music video for www.goodingmusic.com. Kenya Kenya was born in Atlantic City, New jersey and raised in a small town called Pleaseantville, New jersey. Both of her parents are Jamaican. She started singing at the age of 5 and was inspired by Whitney Houston, Gladys Knight and Aretha Franklin. The first time she sang on stage was in her elementary school play. She played Glinda the good witch in the musical The WIZ. It was the best feeling when she was on that stage. Kenya loves performing with The Glamazons. This is her dream come true! Kenya is very passionate, comfortable in her own skin, and being herself. She looks forward to being a role model for other full figured singers out there! Megan Megan is a sultry songstress from California. She moved to NYC to study at American Musical Dramatic Academy (AMDA) and wowed The Glamazons with her booming voice and sharp, sexy moves. Megan’s background is Native American and Irish, boasting big brown eyes, pouty red lips and a great set of cones! Founder - MERYL SHERWOOD “The Glamazons” are the brainchild of Meryl Sherwood AKA Ladyfinger. After strutting her stuff and flaunting her assets in the downtown NYC cabaret/burlesque scene, Meryl longed to perform in a girl group. Her dream was to show the world that talent comes in all sizes. She auditioned girls from all walks of life and a bevy of buxom song and dance beauties were born! The name “Glamazons” was derived by Meryl, and is a perfect fit for these Glamorous Amazons! Meryl was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY and started singing and dancing at the age of three. A graduate of NYU with a BFA in Drama and an MA in Educational Theatre, Meryl played the role of “Cha-Cha DiGregorio" in the year 2000 on the National Tour of the musical "Grease", which opened at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. She worked as a plus size model and was featured in fashion shows for Lane Bryant and Imitation of Christ, the opening segment of “Say Yes to the Dress: Big Bliss”, on The View modeling for Kleinfeld’s, on The Today Show, and in Marie Claire, Vibe, Gotham and Glamour Magazines. In 2001, Meryl founded the plus size pop/burlesque girl group, The Glamazons. In 2009, Meryl got married to Jason Sherwood on an episode of the Style network’s “Whose Wedding is it Anyway?”. Their wedding was planned in eight days while touring the east coast with The Glamazons promoting their debut album Meryl’s last performance with The Glamazons was on November 1, 2010 at a benefit for Disney’s “Only Make Believe” foundation at The Shubert Theatre on Broadway. After having both of her feet operated on, she is no longer performing but continues to produce, cast, direct and manage The Glamazons.
