Things To Do
New Bern
New Bern has
become a popular
destination for
many visitors
who enjoy its
natural beauty,
historic charm,
and convenient
location. The second oldest town in North
Carolina, New Bern settled in 1710 by
German and Swiss colonists. Named for
the city of Bern, Switzerland, the town is
located on the confluence of the Neuse and
Trent Rivers. Experience New Bern as read
about in many novels written by popular,
local resident Nicholas Sparks. Enjoy a

back in time through Tryon Palace and
the NC History Center. New Bern is truly
a Southern Surprise, offering the best of
all worlds just waiting to be discovered!
Havelock
Located in
Eastern North
Carolina, midway
between historic
New Bern and the
beautiful beaches
of the Crystal
Coast, Havelock
has much to offer residents and visitors
alike. Havelock is a great place to live
or visit, blending old fashioned Southern
hospitality with a cultural diversity.
Havelock is proud to be the home of
Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point.
Havelock is one of eight cities in the
world named after Sir Henry Havelock.
Existing records indicate that the
production of naval supplies including
turpentine and tar were very important
in the local economy during the 19th
century. With the invention of the steam
engine, the demand for tar and turpentine
slowly evaporated as fewer wooden ships
were constructed. Havelock became the
home of MCAS Cherry Point in 1940.
