system do you have?

system in the UK.

This is the most common type of system. There’s normally a cold water
tank or cistern in your loft and a hot water cylinder in your airing cupboard.
The water is kept under pressure via the gravity-fed water delivered from
the cistern.

There’s normally a hot water cylinder in your airing cupboard, but there’s
unlikely to be a cold water tank or cistern in your loft. The tank stores
mains pressure hot water, and this is heated in a number of different ways
such as immersion heaters, central heating boilers or even solar water
panels. There are other types of systems like this that give you hot water at
mains pressure – they’re known as ‘thermal store systems’.

A combination boiler heats cold water directly from the cold mains supply
as soon as you turn on a shower or hot tap. Typically, the boiler is the size
of a small kitchen cupboard and can be fitted anywhere in the home. You
won’t have a cold water tank in your loft or a hot water tank in your airing
cupboard.
If you don’t have stored hot water, or don’t want to use it all up when
running a shower, then you can fit an electric shower directly to the cold
mains supply. This heats the water for you and gives you hot water as soon
as you turn it on. The higher the kilowatt rating of an electric shower, the
stronger the flow it gives you.

So you can begin to pinpoint exactly what you’re looking for.
If you’re replacing a shower and you don’t want to re-tile, it’s worth checking the position of the hot and
cold water pipes, and the shape and size of the replacement shower. That way you’ll be sure that the
new shower fits over the old screw holes and onto the pipework. To make life easier, some of our mixer
showers have adjustability on the inlet pipe centres.
Mixer showers
Mixer showers take water from both your hot and cold water supplies and mix it to
create your ideal temperature.

pictured on the right, have an in-built pump which boosts the flow of water to give a
truly exhilarating shower.

If you’d like to save water when you shower, our range of eco showers use flow
regulators to limit the maximum flow of water, and our Mira Eco showerhead uses

Introduction Contemporary Mixer Showers
For a sleek, clean and modern look in your bathroom, choose a mixer from our contemporary range. You’ll enjoy
a great performance and consistent flow, and add a touch of modern designer style.
Mixers take water from your hot and cold supplies then mix it to create your perfect temperature. They’re ideal
if you have lots of hot water on tap. If you have a high pressure system, a mixer shower should give you a more
powerful flow than an electric one. On the other hand, if you have a low pressure system, you can boost the flow
by adding a Mira shower pump (see below).
To find out what water system you have, turn to page 8. Most Mira mixers work on all the common UK water
systems, but it’s important to check before installation.
Which temperature control?
Mixer showers have 3 different types of temperature control:
Manual – Your shower will not compensate for changes in the incoming supply temperature or pressure and
the shower temperature may change.
Pressure Balancing – if you have a pressure balancing mixer, it will compensate for any change in water
pressure and give you a constant showering temperature, provided the supply temperature remains constant.
Thermostatic – a thermostat constantly monitors the incoming water temperature and makes adjustments
to keep the temperature constant. Thermostatic controls give you great temperature control and are ideal for
people who are at risk such as the very young or elderly.

Introduction Digital Mixer Showers
Digital showers are similar to mixer showers as they take water from both your hot and cold water supplies and
then mix it to give you your ideal temperature. But there’s one crucial difference. They have a separate mixer
unit and shower controls so you can mount the slim mixer unit away from the shower in an area which has easy
access for servicing, such as a loft or even under some baths. This reduces the amount of pipework needed to
install the shower, and means the shower controls takes up less space in your shower area.

Introduction Electric Showers
Electric showers only take water from your mains cold water supply, so the chances are an electric shower would suit your
home. They heat the water when you turn the shower on, passing it over a heating element inside the shower. It’s similar to
how a kettle works.
One reason to choose an electric shower is that it won’t use up any of your stored hot water. So if you have a limited supply
of stored hot water, or you want to use it for something else like a bath perhaps, an electric shower really makes sense. It’s
also ready to use any time of day or night.
Electric showers can come with 4 different types of temperature control. Choose which you prefer – you can check
which shower has which controls on the following pages.
Pressure Stabilised – minimises temperature changes to ensure a consistent showering temperature
even when the toilet is flushed
Advanced Pressure Stabilised – these showers control your showering temperature in a similar way to pressure
stabilised models, but they also feature Opti-floTM technology which gives you a wider selectable flow rate range.
This means you can enjoy the full power of the shower even in the summer months when the incoming water
temperature is higher.
Thermostatic – ensures that the temperatures always stays to within +/-2 degrees, making these showers ideal for
those who have young or elderly family members.
Advanced Thermostatic – the ultimate in safe showering. These showers utilise electronic technology to ensure that
the showering temperature will always be consistent to within +/- 1 degree. All of the showers in our Mira Advance ATL
range have been awarded BEAB Care marque accreditation, which makes them ideal for the healthcare sector.
What are the key technologies?
Sensi-flo™ – prevents scalding in the event of a loss of water pressure or if the showerhead or hose become blocked.
Clearscale™ – incorporates DualElement™, phased shutdown and rub-clean nozzles to cut limescale by half so the
shower performs better and lasts longer.
Opti-flo™ – gives you a wider selectable flow rate range which means you can enjoy the full power of the shower even
in the summer months when the incoming water temperature is higher.
Dual Element™ – Mira’s patented DualElement™ heater tank runs at cooler temperatures than conventional
technology providing constant power throughout the element which reduces “hot spots” where limescale
can accumulate.

Mira come with an internal pump to boost the flow and give you a shower that delivers a stunning cascade
every single time.
Power showers mix water from both your hot and cold supplies to give you your ideal temperature. If you’ve
got a plentiful supply of hot water in your home, a power shower could be ideal.
If you’d like a powerful flow but would prefer a mixer shower, you can install a separate shower pump –
