What to Expect on Your Field Trip
Before your visit:
Go over all information on your invoice. Be sure the arrival time and any program times are
correct.
Familiarize yourself with museum rules and map. If you would like to visit the museum before your
visit, contact the Group Visit Coordinator at 626-449-9144 ext 5218 for an Educator Pass.
Make bus reservations well in advance. Check with bus driver to see that they have the correct
address and directions (see below) to the Museum.
Pass on all information and rules (see below) to adult chaperones so that they are well informed
and prepared for the visit. This will ensure a safe, organized and fun day for your students.
When you arrive:
Please arrive on time. If you are running late, please call the museum at 626-449-9144 and be
prepared for possible adjustments to your visit. Please note: Discovery Programs may be shortened
or cancelled due to late arrival.
Have your group line up outside the entrance to the museum while you check in at the ticket booth
or the office. Please do not send another chaperone to check in as the Kidspace
will be
expecting you, the group leader.
During busy times, you may have to wait a few minutes while other groups are checked in. Please
be patient and rest assured that we will check your group in as safely and quickly as possible!
A
member will meet you and go over rules with your students. Please be prepared to enforce
these rules as your group may be asked to leav e if your students are at any time negatively
impacting the experience of other guests.
As the staff member leads your group into the museum, be prepared to be split up into smaller
groups to ensure a safe learning experience for your students and to help prevent congestion in
particular parts of the Museum.
What to expect:
Kidspace offers daily activities and programs that are included with Museum admission. Please
observe the schedule of daily events posted at various locations throughout the Museum.
If you booked a Discovery Program, your group will be split into smaller groups of approximately
30 children. Please communicate with adult chaperones about program times. They will meet
their educator five minutes before the program time in the Central Courtyard. Discovery Programs
are from 30 to 45 minutes long (Pre-K lessons are 30 minutes).
Kidspace has water exhibits! The Kidspace staff will not prohibit your students from playing in the
water and getting wet. If you do not want your students participating in these exhibits, please
communicate this to your chaperones.
Kidspace has fourteen gardens full of pollen and insects and a café full of wheat, dairy and nuts.
Please discuss allergies with chaperones and be sure that each child with allergies is absolutely and
adequately prepared for a day in this kind of environment.
Lunches and Where to Eat
Kidspace is proud to present the Nestle Café by Wolfgang Puck. You may pre-order lunches for
your group from the Nestle Café by completing and faxing the lunch pre-order form (in this packet)
up to 10 business days before your field trip. (Please be aware of students’ food allergies and
prepare accordingly.)
The Nestle Café is open from 11am to 3pm if your students would like to purchase a lunch on the
day of the visit. (Keep in mind there may be a wait.)
Kidspace has limited space available to store your group’s lunches. If you cannot store your
lunches on a bus or in cars, gather all the lunches in one or two large, labeled containers, and a
staff member will direct you to where they can be stored at the Museum upon check in.
School groups are welcome to eat in Brookside Park at the picnic tables located just outside the
Museum.
Kidspace Children’s Museum Rules:
For the safety of your group and other guests, there is no running in the Museum. Shoes are
required at all times, even in water.
Both adults and children should not yell. If there is an emergency, injury, or lost child/adult, please
notify the closest educator in a bright green shirt. He/she can communicate to all staff via radio
and provide instruction on what to do.
Be aware of other guests and share exhibits during busy times.
Weather Considerations
The outdoor areas of Kidspace will remain open except under heavy rain. In the event of heavy
rain, your group’s Museum experience will be limited to the Early Childhood Learning Center and
the Digging Deeper Gallery.
Kidspace has limited sheltered areas to eat and on a rainy day, Kidspace staff will provide your
group with a lunch schedule and will direct you to enclosed areas where you may eat.
Kidspace does not refund payment regardless of weather. If payment has been received, a group
visit may be rescheduled for up to one year from the original date, based on availability.
