Step 4 – Activating the Monitoring Service Step 5 – Recording Your Symptoms continued ? To activate the monitoring service, you must call the LifeWatch Patient Care Center at 1.800.517.6330 with a phone other than the ACT cell phone. ? A Patient Care Center representative will carefully walk you through each step of the process to get you started. ? The ACT cell phone is only to be used for receiving calls from the monitoring center and emergency 911 calls, if needed. Option 2: Pressing the cell phone monitor “Manual Event” button Step 5 – Recording Your Symptoms Record a manual event if you experience dizziness, fatigue, chest pain or other symptom. There are two ways to record a manual event: Option 1. Pressing the sensor side buttons Option 2. Pressing the cell phone monitor manual event button When you record a manual event, the cell phone monitor will display a series of screens and a “doorbell” sound will be heard on the cell phone. The screen will return to the normal display when finished. ? Press the right soft key on the cell phone (see diagram on cover page at right). You will hear a doorbell sound from the cell phone. To cancel the manual event press No. Allow 30 minutes to complete the monitor hook-up ? The first screen disappears in a few seconds if no button was pressed and the event will not be sent. NAVIGATION Key ? The manual event screen will appear on the cell phone monitor after a few seconds. ? Select and mark the symptom(s) you experienced. Multiple symptoms may be selected. ? If you did not experience a symptom, select and Option 1: Pressing the sensor side buttons ? Press the sensor side buttons simultaneously, and release the buttons when there is a beep. ? If your symptom is not listed, select and mark “Other” and press Next. ? If you did not experience a symptom, select and mark “No Symptoms” and press Next. If Next has not been pressed the activity screen will open in 60 seconds. ? Scroll to view continuation of screen. Press the Next button to open the Activity screen. ? Select the activity you were engaged at the time of the symptom and then press Send. ? If “Send” is not pressed the manual event will ? Scroll to view continuation of screen. Step 1 – Skin Prep Step 2 – Electrode Connections and Placement Step 3 – Installing & Changing the Battery ? Wash the skin on your chest and abdomen with warm water and soap. ? Using only scissors, remove any excess hair in the areas where the diagram indicates the electrodes are to be placed. ? Make sure your skin is clean and totally dry before proceeding to Step 2. ? If skin is open or irritated, do not apply electrode. Apply the electrode in close proximity to the required location on nonirritated skin. There are two sensor models, one with a flip-open battery cover and one with a slide-off battery cover. The sensor is shipped without the batteries installed. Note: If you have sensitive skin or sensitivity to nickel/metals or adhesives, you can request special electrodes from LifeWatch. Snap the electrodes onto each of the wires on the sensor. ? The sensor can be worn around your neck on the black neck strap provided or you can place another electrode on your skin on your waist area and then snap the sensor to that electrode. ? Replace electrodes every 3 days or when they become loose or fall off. If one or more electrode is replaced, ALL electrodes must also be replaced as well. ? Check the electrodes daily by gently pulling on them to verify that they are still firmly attached. ? Remove backing from each electrode and place the appropriate color coded electrode and wire. ? To remove electrodes, disconnect the wires from the electrodes and gently remove electrodes from the skin by grasping the edge/tab of the electrode and peeling back in a slow continuous motion. You may want to remove the electrodes in the shower or by using a wet, warm washcloth. ? Remove any excess adhesive or dead skin between electrode changes using a wet, warm washcloth. ? Place the electrodes on healthy, non-irritated skin according ? Female patients may need to lift the left breast to get the proper electrode placement of the red and black electrodes. With the battery compartment facing up, press the orange button on the right side of the sensor to spring open the battery compartment cover. ? Insert with the (+) sign on the battery aligned with the (+) sign in the battery compartment. ? Gently push the battery cover down until you hear a click, indicating the battery cover is closed. ? The sensor should beep once within 10 seconds when the battery is properly installed. C: Change the Sensor Battery if: 1) The sensor beeps 2 times: 1 long beep then a short beep. 2) A “low sensor battery” message appears on cell phone screen. ? When changing the battery, make sure the sensor and cell phone are within 20 inches of each other. ? After the sensor battery is changed, it may take up to 5 minutes for the “low sensor battery” message to be cleared from the cell phone screen. Note: ONLY use the batteries included in the kit.
