NIVERVILLE OLDE TYME COUNTRY FAIR
Message from Town Council
Polar Vortex, potholes, frozen pipes.
Things to be endured. Parades, pork
on a bun, street party. Things to
be enjoyed! Once again it is time to
celebrate at our Niverville Olde Tyme
Country Fair. The Niverville fair is a
place where you will see people that
have a sno cone in their hand rather
than a snow shovel, where parents
are pushing their children in a stroller
rather than their vehicle out of the
ditch, and where frost bite is replaced
with friends and fireworks.
On behalf of our residents, our staff,
and my fellow Town Councillors I wish
to welcome you to Niverville for this
year’s Niverville Olde Tyme Country
Fair. Once again the volunteers
that are our Fair Committee have been
working hard in preparation for this
year’s event. It is through their tireless
effort and dedication that our community once again has the opportunity to
welcome you to what I know will be
another great weekend! Also, to all
of the hundreds of volunteers, both
from Niverville as well as surrounding
communities, we say a sincere and
heartfelt thank you! The only way this
Fair is the amazing event that it is every
year is because of you!
they call home. Currently our Town is
in the middle of a fundraising campaign
called the First Big Wave. This project
will involve the construction of an
outdoor water amenity which will
include slides, spray features, and a
swimming pool. Please take the time
to walk or drive around to see other
things that are going on in Niverville.
Myron Dyck
Councillor, Town of Niverville
A lot has happened in Niverville since
the rides were packed up and the
streets swept last year. Our elementary
school has gone from three classes
per grade to four classes per grade as
we welcome more young families to
our Town. A new plan of subdivision for
our industrial park is in the engineering
stage as we seek to accommodate
the demand for land from business
owners. We cut the ribbon and opened
our new personal care home this past
October. This 80 bed PCH means our
residents needing that kind of care no
longer have to leave the community
they have worked and lived in and are
instead able to stay in the community
We hope that you will plan on spending
the weekend with us as you will not
want to miss anything. On Friday the
street vendors will be out in full force
tempting every palate with a wide
variety of wonderful food. Enjoy
listening to the sounds of local talent
that will be playing the main stage.
The midway and street entertainers
will once again be set up to make you
smile and scream, and of course the
fireworks at the end of the evening
are always a crowd favorite. Please
come back on Saturday and watch
the parade and enjoy the main stage
entertainers throughout the afternoon.
Then you will want to make sure you
get a seat early by the main stage
for the Saturday Night feature
performer as you share what is always
a great concert with thousands of
other music fans!

The Asham Stompers re-capture and
preserve the history of the Métis people
through the traditional dancing of the Red
River Jig. Come and enjoy the richness
of the Métis tradition through the Red
River Jig combined with square dancing
which has been done in the First Nations
communities for many years. Their
purpose is to help bring hope to the
children of Aboriginal Communities
by taking something right out of their
community (The Fiddle and Jig) to
the World Stage successfully and
independently. The fiddle and Red River
Jig have a long history in aboriginal
communities and the rest of the world
is embracing it. The Stompers receive
standing ovations wherever they perform, but it is not about the Stompers, it
is about the dance that has been passed
down by their ancestors. They plan to
pass the Jig on to the youth and therefore
have youth in their group at almost every
performance.
Sagkeeng’s Finest
Light on their feet, Sagkeeng’s
Finest will grace the Niverville Fair
stage with their faststepping jigging
routine which took Canada by storm
in 2012, ultimately leading them to
be crowned winners of Canada’s Got
Talent.
Hailing from the Sagkeeng First Nation,
Vince O’Laney, and brothers Brandon
and Dallas Courchene all began
dancing in their community only a few
years ago. While the young men had
already been winning competitions
and taking stages around the
province, they formed the trio
known as Sagkeeng’s Finest in 2012
to participate in the largest national
talent contest in Canadian television
history. Their blend of traditional jigging blended artfully with modern,

clogging and tap styles has created a
unique and infectious style of upbeat
dance.
As a result of their success, The
Province of Manitoba honoured the
trio with the Order of the Buffalo Hunt.
They are among the youngest to
receive the honour, which recognizes
outstanding and distinctive contributions to the life of Manitoba. After
all the accolades and celebrations,
the group announced that they are
considering investing in a dance studio
in Sagkeeng where others could learn
traditional Métis jigging as they have.
An unbelievable combination of
traditional jigging with a twist of
modern dance, this troupe is one
not to miss!

Federal Lights
In 2011, out of the ashes of Winnipeg
buzz band The Morning after, singer
songwriter Jean-Guy Roy quietly rose
from the depths of his basement’s cold
storage room to record a new collection
of songs with award winning engineer/
producer, Cam Loeppky (Weakerthans,
Imaginary Cities, Cannon Bros). The
result was “Carbon”, a six song EP that
was met with immediate praise nation
wide with the Toronto Star calling it “quietly electric, emotionally unguarded,
and so thick with regret, you’d need a
hoe to cut through it.” From there, 2012 saw Federal Lights
tour the country playing festivals and
opening for acts like Imaginary Cities,
Rah Rah, and the Great Lake Swimmers.
The band also received an APCMA
FRI.

nomination for Rock Album of the
Year and performed on the nationally
syndicated APTN series Arbor Live. We Were In The Fog
has a comforting
warmth about it.
Hailed by the CBC
as a top Canadian
record to be heard.
In 2013, the band signed with Toronto’s
Aporia Records for the August release
of the full length We Were Found In
The Fog. Engineered by Loeppky and
produced by Rusty Matyas (Imaginary
Cities), the album sees the band at its
sharpest. The hooks are more refined,
the lyrics more precise and Roy’s
timeless, resonant voice is as clear
as a bright blue Prairie sky. From the
propulsive, handclap pop of “I See Love”
to the rolling, Wilco-approved Americana
of “Skyline,” We Were Found In The
Fog has a comforting warmth about it. Hailed by the CBC as a Top 15 Canadian
record to be heard. The album’s first two
singles “I See Love” and “Cobra” both
debuted at the No. 1 spot on the CBC
Radio 3’s Top 30. With the success
of We Were Found In The Fog the band
again hit the road touring both Canada
and Europe, including not one but
three shows at the famous Reeperbahn
Festival in Hamburg, Germany.
2014 will see the band return to Europe
in fall after heading out on the road across
Canada for a summer festival tour.

Jordan St.Cyr
If “salt of the earth” could describe an
artist and his music, there is perhaps no
more apt phrase for roots/rocker, Jordan
St.Cyr. A sincere, veracious performer
with a talent for writing melodies to be
visited over many years.
Born and raised in the prairies,
with most of his upbringing in rural
Manitoba, Jordan is well versed in the
ethic of hard work and the honest, downto-earth values so often associated
with life in the country. Balancing
married life with his wife and two kids,
helping with a family business, and a
clear calling to music, is something he
embraces whole-heartedly as part of his
journey. If asked what he would do if he
had to choose one over the other, his
quick reply is: all, with excellence.
FRI.
JUNE

His influences were initially drawn
from his father’s own love of music
and songwriting, and have evolved to
include a broad range of contemporaries.
A sincere, veracious
performer with a
talent for writing
melodies to be visited
over many years.
He’s explored several musical outlets,
including a stint in the Winnipeg rock
scene as part of a band, but in 2011,
he decided to release a solo project,
“Let Go” receiving airplay locally and
internationally, and garnering him an
opening spot for Burton Cummings.
The project also caught the attention
of Golden West Radio, who offered him
a grant to continue recording original
music. Jordan released Anchors, his
debut full length, in November of last
year and it is proving to be a step in
the right direction. Winning 2nd in the
national singer/songwriter competition
“The Great Canadian Song Search”, a
Western Canadian Tour and time spent
writing new material in Nashville have all
been a result of this effort.
With a raw, contemporary sound,
and lyrics that are ready to explore
real-life topics, Jordan could certainly
find his songs in many corners of the
entertainment industry. Driving all of
it is a passion to write and present
sonically compelling music that matters,
infused by unabashed transparency.

Wonder Shows began as a midsize

accommodate 3 acres of rides, games,

Whiskey Talks
Whiskey Talks is a high energy, hard
driving rock band from Niverville! The
past 12 years have seen these guys
individually involved in many different
music projects. Lead Singer and powerhouse vocalist, Shaun St.Cyr spent most
of this time in various rock bands with his
brothers until each decided to pursue
their own musical paths. Chad Friesen,
the band’s edgy and intense Guitarist,
had successfully played in the past with
Jarred Lawrence, the band’s equally

talented and dynamic drummer. They
hooked up again in 2011 and within a
short time added accomplished Bass
Player, Joel Enns. These three worked
hard on their music, writing songs and
honing their skills and in early 2012
brought Shaun on board to round out
the band. Influenced by the likes of
Zepplin, Tom Petty, STP, Rage Against
the Machine, Deftones and a little
Pantera...Whiskey Talks still knew they
had to develop their own unique sound.
“We weren’t sure at first if we were the
right fit for each other...until we started
to play and write together. We knew what
we wanted and we worked hard to get
there. It felt like all our past struggles, failures and successes, came together,
actually creating something greater!”
It wasn’t long before their signature
sound emerged and a powerful EP
followed! Catch their high energy show
at this years fair, immediately following
the Blackout Fireworks on Friday night.

NIVERVILLE OLDE TYME COUNTRY FAIR
There are few safe bets in life, even fewer
in the music business; however Niagra
nativee and Country music’s hottest new
star, Tim Hicks is as close to a sure thing
as can be found.
Recognized as a hard-working family
man who is embedded with his fans, Juno
nominated country artist Tim Hicks soared
into the hearts and minds of Country
music fans with his debut single “Get By”
in January 2013 – a Top 10 hit at Country
Radio in less than 8 weeks and certified
GOLD. Hicks ruled the digital charts with
the #1 selling single for more than 17
weeks – a noteworthy number for any
musician let alone a new Country artist.
Hicks’ second single, “Hell Raisin’ Good
Time” rocketed up the charts upon
release, and officially went GOLD in
March 2014. It was the No. 1 most
added track at Canadian radio overall,
proving to be an unyielding preview of the
artistry and music mastery to come on
Hicks’ debut album THROW DOWN.
SAT.
JUNE
14 9:30 P.M.
A crowd pleasing live performer, Hicks is
a man who has lived, loved and worked
hard along the way. His music is accessible, energetic and ambitious, reflecting
how he wants his songs to reach people.
In March 2013, Hicks released his debut EP, Tim Hicks. Recorded with hit
producer and songwriter Jeff Coplan
(Love and Theft), Hicks’ debut EP is
the sound of summer for Country mu-
sic fans. With equal parts grit, fun and
camaraderie, the five tracks are a precisely rendered snapshot of what’s
to come from this singer/songwriter
who connects with his audience and
touches them on a human level.
“I want my music and stories to connect
with as many people as possible,” Hicks
explains. “That’s what its about for me giving all I’ve got to lift spirits and raise
the roof.”
There are few safe
bets in life, but
Country music’s
hottest new star
Tim Hicks is as
close to a sure thing
as can be found.
“Throw Down”, the critically praised debut
from Hicks was released in August 2013
by Open Road Recordings/Universal
Music Canada and debuted as the #1
selling Canadian album overall and #1
Canadian Country album on the Nielsen
SoundScan Album Chart. The album
follows Hicks’ #1 selling self-titled digital
EP and four radio hits including his latest
single “Got A Feeling” feat. Blackjack
Billy, landing most added of all genres at
radio. In February 2014, Hicks garnered
two Juno nominations – Breakthrough
Artist of the Year and Country Album of
the Year for Throw Down.
Hicks’ fast rising success story is noteworthy, garnering a lot of attention from
the industry and fans alike. With over 90
million audience impressions at radio
and over 1.5 million views online he has
dominated Canadian Country radio and
video airplay and continues to set the
pace for a new wave of Country artists in
Canada. A crowd pleasing live performer,
Hicks’ music is accessible, energetic
and ambitious, reflecting how he wants
his songs to reach people. Hicks’ solid
identity as the ‘one to watch’ separates
him from the rest of the crowd and puts
him at the forefront – poised for major
success in Country’s breathtaking rise
to the top of all genres of music.
Fueled by a love of music and a desire
to learn, Hicks honed his talent and
built a loyal and dedicated fan base in
his hometown of Niagra, ON, daly on
by frequently playing at the local pub
in between his full time job of being
a dedicated husband and father. He
signed with RGK Entertainment in 2011
and the rest is history.
It’s apparent that Hicks is ready
for a big year of music and friends
in 2014. His desire to carve his
place in the music business keeps
him hungry and it is that hunger
that translates into a well-crafted,
high-intensity country music debut.
And… in a world with few safe bets,
he’s guaranteed to deliver.

Brady Dyck
Many musical artists are born with an
instilled passion for the rhythms of their
preferred musical genre. And then,
there are artists like Brady Dyck.
One would think this prairie boy would
be born and bred with a passion for all
things country, but fate had other plans
for Brady. Growing up as the youngest
of three on a farm near Niverville, Brady
enjoyed the country childhood you may
imagine, yet somewhere on his journey he developed an admiration for an
eclectic variety of music styles from rap
to classical and everything in between.
Noticing a musical bent in his son,
Brady’s father, Ken, an accomplished
guitar player himself, taught a then
12 year old Brady a few chords on a
beat-up old six-string. His father challenged him that if he showed interest
in music and played that old guitar for
a year, he’d buy him an electric guitar.
Needless to say, the after-school hours
in the Dyck home got a few decibels
louder the following year.

As a home-grown
talent, Brady is
sure to be in the
spotlight at his
upcoming country
music stage debut
With an acoustically-driven music style,
Brady’s transition to country music
combines the soothing melodies of
slower ballads with progressive undertones, inspired by his vast experience in
the rock/heavy-metal genres. His song
writing reflects influences of family and
friends, and the pivitol experiences that
have shaped his music interests and
his personal character. Since recently
recording his first (and only) country
record, Backroads, Brady acknowledges
that his music career has reached an
exciting tipping point that he hopes will
launch him into a recharged music and
stage performance career.
After high school, Brady attended
Mid-Ocean School of Media Arts where
he gained invaluable knowledge and
experience in recording. In the
following years as his musical tastes
matured, his prairie roots began to
take hold of his destiny, influencing
him through bands like Keith Urban,
Billy Currington and Easton Corban.
As a home-grown talent, Brady is
sure to be in the spotlight at his
country music stage debut. Brady will
be joined on stage by local artists Evan
St.Cyr, Mathew Klippenstein, Marshall
Krahn, Rory Hiebert, and Melanie
Bergen, along with Jordan Bissonette.
Performing a diverse selection of country
songs, Dyck’s set is sure to awaken the
proud prairie heritage of his audience.
Revelling in this newfound electric
glory, Brady honed his craft and, in his
teens fronted a heavy metal band, Still
Village. For nearly a decade his band
played local venues in and around
Winnipeg, accumulating him the
experience and resilience he’d need
to move his musical career forward.

Parks & Facilities
Niverville has experienced tremendous
growth over the past few years, and
we have strived hard to retain lots of
green space and wonderful parks for the
community’s enjoyment. While Hespeler
Park is the largest park in our community
we also have several other parks nestled
away. Edelweiss Park, located in the
centre of Edelweiss crescent, is a
beautiful, large open field perfect
for pickup games of soccer, family
gatherings, etc. Opa’s park is located on
the North end of Roselawn Bay and can
be accessed via a walkway on the North
West corner of Roselawn Bay. Opa’s
park offers playstructures, a swingset
and a basketball court. In addition to
these three main parks, we have several
pocket parks throughout town and a
tot park (located on Third Street North and
Fourth Avenue North) Hespeler Park is a
80+ acre park located in the South end
of Niverville off Fifth Street South. Existing
facilities include a beach volleyball
court, mini and full sized soccer pitches,
baseball diamonds, swing sets, outdoor
exercise
equipment, a
natural
playground, an accessible, inclusive
playground, a picnic shelter and a
section of the Crow Wing Trail. Hespeler
Park also features asphalted walking
paths that are great for cycling, rollerblading, wheelchairs and baby strollers.
An off-leash dog park is located in the old
baseball diamonds between the arena and
the curling rink. Fully enclosed and free
to use, it’s the perfect place to take your
dog(s) for some extra exercise! Please
obey rules posted and clean up after your
pet to ensure that this remains a safe
and enjoyable place for everyone to visit.
Garbage and recycling bins, a picnic table
and benches are also in the dog park.

of natural ice, and a meeting room
downstairs. Niverville also has a Skateboard park and drop in centre on the
East side of Town that is run by Youth
for Christ.
John Henry’s meeting room and
banquet hall, and the Niverville Heritage
Centre are two beautiful facilities that are
perfect for your meeting, conference,

During our long winter months, check out
the arena for some great hockey games,
public skating, ringette and more! The
curling club have brooms and equipment
available for “try it for free” events, clinics
etc, and it is a great place to meet some
new people. In addition to regular league
curling, the curling club now has youth
curling, couples drop in nights and other
opportunities to get out and try this fun and
social sport.
Organized summer sports include baseball,
soccer, flag rugby and tackle rugby. Soccer
pitches, baseball diamonds, and a beach
volleyball court are located at Hespeler
Park.
There are lots of other organized sports –
Tae Kwon Do, yoga, aerobics and fitness
classes, boot camps, cross-fit and a
wonderful dance studio and gym. The
Niverville Community Services Department
has snowshoes, pedometers and handheld
GPS units that are available to borrow.
The Community Services Department
holds an annual Recreation and Wellness
Showcase in September. This year’s date
for the showcase is September 4th at the
Heritage Centre from 5-8pm. Drop by to
see what recreational opportunities are
available in Niverville, and to register for
winter sports and Fall and Winter recreation programs. For more information
